Episode Four: "Randall"

--Act One--

As a moon rests, Fei lingers out of a small open crack in the walls, staring out at the grounds below before her friend, Lauren stands beside her. She pushes herself over the craves, leaning out as her hair blows. They chuckle as birds fly by, holding eachother once more.

Lauren: "We can make this work" she nods gently.
Fei: "Perhaps . . . I just didn't expect this"
Lauren: "I don't think any of us did . . ."

Lauren sighs as Fei chucks down broken fragments from the high stands, looking down as she notices Fei's leg.

Lauren: "Is it healing?"
Fei: "That nice boy, the servant, he said a fever would hit but I'm doing alright"

The two chuckle once more before Randall peers behind them, taking his shirt off as he enters the room.

--End of Scene--

In a dimly lit room, a flare of light encloses the room in a ring of burning light. The morning dawn setting in as Randall awakens beside a resting Fei who quivers in her slumber. The two rest in a king sized bed constructed from old oak from the wastelands, both in little clothing as they lay beside one another.
He wraps his firm arms across her chest, holding her close as Fei sweats perversely. Her small eyes open, graying with sickness as little breath comes from her. He smiles, wrapping her hair back into a small bundle as he beckons to her.

Randall: "Jeremy said a fever would hit, only for a few days though he said"
Fei: (Coughing gently) "So he's a trained medic now?" she tries to chuckle.
Randall: "You rest now" he requests, straining upright as his bulging body aches.

Randall pushes from the bed post, walking to his uniform, layed to rest by the residents of the Pyramids. However, upon retrieving them he is startled by a wandering Olyver who enters, unbeknownst to Randall's current state. He comes to a sudden halt, alerting Fei and Randall who turn, both unaware of his sexuality and relation to Jeremy.

Prince Olyver: "I'm sorry!" (He becomes flustered) "M- . . . Mother told me you weren't awake yet"

Randall chuckles as Fei sits up from her rest, staring at Olyver who seems set sighted upon Randall who takes his shirt. Behind the door frame, the servant to House Reppingtal, Jeremy Boleyn enters the drowning scene in which Olyver stumbles within, he holds a brave-hearted smile, taking note of Randall's state of clothing.

Jeremy: "Do mind my Prince, it's been a while since we've had guests of your manner"
Prince Olyver: "And does this mean you can tell them of the difficulties I have?" Olyver responds jokingly.
Jeremy: "The Prince was here to inform you of a meal service approaching with the Empress, she'd like everyone to attend but if Miss Fei Wang isn't fit to attend then she'll have something provided here for her"

Randall nods with acceptance as Jeremy tugs on a flustered Olyver as the two set off to find Hali, Lauren and Marcus. He turns gently, his head glancing down to Fei who smiles softly back at him.

Fei: "Go" she bestows, "You've done enough . . . I'm sure I can do enough here on my own" she insists as Randall accepts.

--End of Scene--

Within a stairwell, Lauren and her Grandfather Marcus begin to set out on their wander across the great ruins, reading of fiction and tales among themselves despite the tales believed to be false coming true much recently.

Lauren: "For all our bad cause, our luck seems to have turned Grandfather" she holds her head high.
Marcus: "It does seem that way my child . . . I just wish our beloved Jennifer could still be with us"

The two hold their heads low in respect for their lost relative, however word soon turns to that of Jennifer's relatives, Randall and Aston who brings much concern to the two leading Matriarchs.

Lauren: "These people . . . The 'Empress' as they call her. Something's very wrong Grandfather for these people to survive out here for so long, and that Boleyn boy managing to scout the lands without fear of death. There's something they aren't telling us. Something much worse"
Marcus: "Argh, the much loved game of cat and mouse. Something we all seem to be chasing these days. However, its Aston for who I worry for most. If these people know these lands so well and if they knew of our arrival then there is a way back, a way back into our Grand City but for what cost is unknown. I feel these people have dark secrets, something we need to find but until then my child, you keep an eye on Randall and make sure he doesn't stray too far from the path"

As the two relatives reach the bottom of the stairwell, they are greeted by Prince Olyver who bows before them. He welcomes them with great pleasure as he begins to escort them to the Grand Hall, ready for their meal service.

--Act Two--

::Flashback::

Within the dampened meadows of Randall's Cottage and Farm, he sets foot upon his land, the mills churning behind him as his noble rival, Marcus takes stage before him. The rains pouring upon the two before Marcus' sly words speak before Randall, belittling him.

Marcus: "Look behind you, look at the boy you both conceived! My Granddaughter and we are all playing dangerous games but for as long as I live I shall NEVER see that boy harmed"
Randall: "Marcus, I'd like you to leave" Randall insists, taking his crops in by cart as he tropes through the land.
Marcus: "Not until you take what I demand"
Randall: "And what do you demand?" Randall bestows, coming to a halt as he drops his cart.

Marcus opens his hand to a scroll and a purse, inside rests gold, enough for a living.

Marcus: "Take my Grandson as far as you can from this City, For Jennifer is no longer ours and if what I hear is true we don't have long left. I order you to take him and keep him safe, Barone"

Randall holds the purse and the scroll in his hands, staring through the darkened mill upon Marcus who begins to depart.

Marcus: "For once in your pitiful life Barone, make the right choice"

Lighting strikes the City, leaving Randall in darkness.

::Flashback Ends::

Inside the Grand Hall of the ruins, Empress Raine sits upon a high, self constructed throne made from broken shards of sandstone and wood. She holds a formidable smile upon her cold face as she welcomes her guests. Around the crooked table sits the other residents, Hali and Randall upon Lauren and Marcus' entrance.

Empress Raine: (Waving her hand) "Do take a seat" she offers, pointing to two jagged chairs.

As they take their seats, Randall's eyes take sight of Marcus who shuns him, rejecting him of a return on somber friendship.
As they finally settle, Empress Raine taps at her hands as her servant, Jeremy Boleyn exits with a dust filled tray of rotting fruit and a carcass of an animal that remains burnt from the attempts of cooking. The four guests turn their noses at the food as Empress Raine chuckles.

Empress Raine: "It's what we're left with in this dying land, but food is food and if it doesn't kill you then you're free to do as you will"

She takes note of Hali's swift attempts of taking the food, beginning to devour it much to the unsettling dismay of her other friends.

Empress Raine: (Turning her nose, her brow held high)
Empress Raine: "My girl" she lingers, watching Hali's head rise.
Hali: "Y- . . Yes?" she sports a loving smile as she drops the meat to the stone plates.
Empress Raine: "Take a plate up for our friend of yours. Fei was it? I'm sure she'll want some"

Hali is hesitant before Olyver offers his word.

Prince Olyver: "Mother, I'm sure Jeremy had it sorted correct?"
Empress Raine: "Oh I'm sure, but I think it's best if she see's a friend don't you?"

Olyver accepts his mothers word as Hali takes a small tray, given to her by Jeremy.

Lauren: "She's on the second floor, third door to your right" Lauren advises as Hali departs.
Empress Raine: "Now . . . let's eat"

--Act Three--

Upon their feast, Jeremy begins to settle beside Prince Olyver, the two becoming much more disjointed in the presence of Empress Raine.

Lauren: "You mustn't take advantage of her, Randall. We're all hurting but she had enough of that with Noah"
Randall: "Pardon?" he remains bewildered.
Lauren: "Fei . . . I saw you together last night before I went to my quarters, I'm sure you slept together correct?"
Randall: "Yes, but I don't see how that was m- . . ."

Marcus chuckles with significant laughter.

Marcus: "Couldn't move on quick enough, not even a thought for his own Son"
Randall: (His eyes inflamed at the comments made, turning his head to Marcus)
Randall: "Don't speak to me of how I treat and care for my son, I stayed because thats whats best for him. Not me. If we're talking about integrity and parent-ship then why is my wife to be in the ground with her head taken off!"

Lauren rests her utensils and food on the plate as she remains solemn, the Empress and her squires remaining calm as they listen in.

Randall: "You have a lot of say for everyone but so little to say about others Marcus, perhaps if you weren't so thirsty for us to claim the throne then perhaps we wouldn't be fighting to survive before we all end up like Jennifer"

Randall leaves the Feast, departing the table and the Grand Hall.
Inside, Marcus remains gleeful as Lauren notices her Grandfather's smug attitude, sighing of the continuous rivalry her family shares.

Empress Raine chuckles slightly, offering her word as she points to Marcus.
Empress Raine: "Very Charming, if I do say so myself!" she laughs, sipping at her water as Marcus bows his head to her in appreciation.

::Flashback::

Within a small village in Ellesm茅ra, Randall walks hastily through the streets as he hears Lauren's voice from a distance, presumably in search as she takes care of Aston in their journeys
He comes to a steady destination, stopping beside a small carriage with a Squire upon it.

Randall: "My Good Man, where are you heading?"

The Squire turns, his lips pouting at the sight of Randall before turning away once more.

Randall: "I can pay" he insists, shaking the purse of money given by Marcus.

This time the Squire takes notice, a gleeful smile upon him as Randall's eyes wander across the village, the King's Castle in the foggy distance as he holds the purse within his hands.

Squire: "I leave for Hathersage at Dawn, if you aren't here I leave without you"

However, with the gold now gone and Dawn vastly approaching, Randall remains seated in his own Cottage, watching the scroll given to him by Marcus burn within the fires of his mantle. The flames rising in his eyes whilst Marcus stands upon a hill, watching the Carriage paid for by Randall set off on a journey to Hathersage, believing Randall and his Grandson, Aston to be upon it.

::End of Flashback::

--Act Four--

As he solemnly walks up the stairwell, a crash from above is heard. A fractured scream floods a dampened corridor as Randall jilts forward, rushing to the floors above to see a fleeing Hali who scurries away along a vast corridor in a flood of emotions, her hair frazzled and broken as she ignores Randall.

Randall: (Confused) "Hali? . . . Hali!" he beckons to her, watching her disappear into the shadows in the distance before turning to his quarters.

He solemnly enters to a brightened room, floods of light blinding him as he enters.

Randall: "Fei?" he calls with no response comes in return.
Randall: "Fei?" his eyes adjust, calling her name once more.

His eyes peer to an empty bed that remains jagged, the duvet resting half off of the bed itself with a broken vase at his feet.

Randall: "Fei . . ." he see's sight of Fei.

However, in this moment Fei rests in a slumber in which she won't awake. Her body remains spread upon the sandstone flooring of the Ruins, her legs bruises with a long wooden bead necklace wrapped tightly across her neck. Her eyes remain still, cold and dead with the little color draining from her cheeks. Her graceful hair is disdained whilst a charge of guests scurry the stairs.

Lauren: "Oh my God" a worrisome Lauren remains startled

Randall stumbles through the doorframe, falling to his knee's as he pushes himself forward closer to Fei's resting body. He takes her into his arms as he pulls her head closer, tapping her gently.

Randall: "Fei?" he shakes vividly, the rest of the group rejoicing within the room as they stand above.
Randall: "Fei!" he repeat once more as the beads fall from her neck, a large purple bruise resting upon Fei's pale white skin.
