Season Titled, 'Retribution' (Part Six of Ten): Episode Six: "The Cost of Living"
--Act One--
Lady Zella Vox sits within a high frame, her stature being curved as she feasts upon several prunes chuckling to her consorted self. Before her, Lord Marcus pours at his wine bewildered by the woman before him.
Lady Zella: "Impossible!"
Lord Marcus: (Restraining disappointment) "Why?"
Lady Zella: "My Grandson is the high pride of my City, the most desirable bachelor of this day. Your Granddaughter Lauren . . ."
Lord Marcus: "She'll be rich and a good mother" (Giving Zella a glass of his finest wine in which she chugs upon immediately)
Lord Marcus: "And Cousin to the Queen, Step-Mother to the King's Children"
Lady Zella: "Old . . ."
Lord Marcus: (Turning his back to Zella) "Old?"
Lady Zella: "I'm something of an expert on the subject, A change will be upon her before long. She's almost twice the age of my Grandson. I'll spare you the details upon that matter until then"
Lady Zella: "You men may have a stomach for blood sweat and fear"
Lord Marcus: "All these years it punishes us entirely. I promise you that" (Sipping at his wine)
Lady Zella: (Staring briefly into his eyes)
Lord Marcus: "My stomach remains quite strong however. The only things that would turn it however would be details of your Grandsons nocturnal activities. Do you deny them?"
Lady Zella: (Proudly highering her glass) "Oh not at all! A sword swallower through and through!"
(She sips at her wine, a smile upon her face)
Lord Marcus: "A man of his honor should be grateful for the offer to wed one of the most beautiful women in Ellesm茅ra to remove the stain from his name" (His homophobia holding resent)
Lady Zella: (Leaning forward) "Did you grow up with boy cousins Lord Marcus? Sons of your Father's bannerman, squires, stableboys?" She asks with integrity.
Lord Marcus: "Of Course . . ."
Lady Zella: "And you never?"
Lord Marcus: (Firmly) "No"
Lady Zella: (Chuckling slightly) "Never? Not in anyway"
Lord Marcus: "Never"
Lady Zella: (Raising a toast) "I congratulate you upon your restraint, But it's a natural thing two boys having a go at eachother beneath the sheets"
Lord Marcus: "Perhaps your City has a high tolerance for unnatural behavior"
Lady Zella: "Oh I wouldn't say that, true . . . we don't tie ourselves in knots over discrete bits of buggery. However . . ." (Sighing as she prepares herself, lowering her glass)
Lady Zella: "Father's and Daughters . . . Where I come from that stain would be difficult to wash out"
Lord Marcus: (Rising slowly) "I will not feed malicious lies by discussing it"
Lady Zella: "Whether it's fact or fiction my Lord, the walls have ears and apparently in Ellesm茅ra the shrubbery does too. Whoever your Granddaughter is married too, from what I am hearing and what everyone is hearing I'd take a look at what the House Tree may look like soon"
Lady Zella Rises, nodding to Lord Marcus as she begins to exit, leaving the tiresome Lord within his Quarters upon his own thoughts.
Elsewhere, King Noah resides in his own Quarters awaiting for the attention of his Hand-Maidens until a bold knock throws him from his daze. Before the door, stands Sir Anthony who brings news of his Daughter, Chandler.
King Noah: "Anthony, Come on in!" He chuckles in delight.
Sir Anthony however, showing no expression as he joins his King who huddles with him.
King Noah: "How is she?"
Sir Anthony: (Concerned) "She's like a rotting corpse your Majesty, the girl need to leave these walls"
King Noah: "No, I will not see of it! Not until you know of what must happen" He states firmly.
Sir Anthony: (Sighing greatly) "My Lord . . ."
King Noah: "I said no, I will be with her again tonight to comfort her"
Sir Anthony shows disgust as his King takes his seat once more, suggesting for his departure as he begins to exit.
King Noah: (Waving his hand high) "Oh and Anthony, that girl . . . Lady Mira's Hand-Maiden, what was her name?"
Sir Anthony: (Confused as he answers) "I think it was Hali, My King"
King Noah: "Ah, yes . . . Sweet Hali . . . Have it so that she is locked away in her imprisonment once more, the girl has two months left of her sentence until Lady Mira rudely interceded"
Sir Anthony shakes his head, taking his King's orders before departing.
--Act Two--
Queen Jennifer is now released into the Castle Grounds, she wanders softly as her feet touch the ground once more after being bedridden for weeks. Her eyes gaze upon the sturdy walls as she grows tiresome of the things that surround her. She grows envious of her own state, clutching at her stomach before proceeding onwards into her Halls where Hand-Maidens socialize.
Queen Jennifer: (Pushing her way through the crowds) "What is this?" she bewilders.
However, Queen Jennifer pauses seeing Mistress Wang standing before her, Fei's eyes shaking in a state as she falls into a cluster.
Fei: (Stuttering) "M- . . . My Queen" she tugs at her arm, throwing her arms back as a gold chain falls from her hands.
Queen Jennifer's eyes rise up, picking the chain from its cold surface and holding it within the palm of her hands, opening it to revealing its inhabitant. A small picture frame of King Noah.
Queen Jennifer: (Infuriated) "Where did you get this?"
She holds it out in her hand as Fei tries to pick at it. However, this is effortless as Queen Jennifer snatches it back, slicing a small part of her hand in doing so.
Fei: "T- . . The King gave it to me my Lady"
Queen Jennifer: (Throwing her hand back in distress as she belts out to the crowd) "Leave!"
Queen Jennifer: "I said leave Mistress Wang!" she orders, startling a frail Fei into scurrying away.
Queen Jennifer then watches back, seeing Fei depart only to look back at her hand that begins to bleed small trickles of blood across her hand. She stares at the Hand-Maidens who watch in awe, a flustered Jennifer growing embarrassed before frantically departing.
From the Grounds of his Castle, King Noah stands upon his balcony watching from a distance as his Guardsman begin to drag a girl from the Kitchens.
Lady Hali: "What is the meaning of this? Release me! I said Release Me!" she demands with no reply.
King Noah chuckles, watching as entertainment as Lady Hali struggles, only to catch sight of her King from above before being thrown into a small carriage.
King Noah returns to his own world, sipping at his chalice before turning to a Window, seeing his Daughter, Chandler standing before him. Her dead eyes of emptiness shun him with shame, Noah himself cannot bring himself to glance back once. Instead, he rests his eyes upon the Grounds watching as Queen Jennifer departs unannounced, scurrying into a small black carriage in a fine red corset, thus capturing his desire.
--Act Three--
Torches burn high into the depths of a cavern, dirt falling around steel cages that lay bare in the mud. Iris sits within her prison, sealed tightly away with no visitors coming by. She remains alone, alone in her own thoughts. All of them cascading across her brain, clinging to her lifeless corpse in which continues to rot within the very cell. She glances up, her lingering body pulling against the bars at the sound of echoes vibrating their way across her soft hands. Her eyes twitch, sniffing at the air like a hound as she pulls herself forward.
Iris: (Intrigued) "Who comes to me on this fateful night?"
Iris glares, her glistening eyes twinkle in the shimmering flames of the torches hearing the tedious footsteps grow ever so closer. Her fiery hair, turning at every sound as she awaits a cold figure that stands motionless in an arch of darkness.
???: "You Promised me, You swore to me that I'd birth the King's Son . . ." Their tedious chant spirals.
Iris' head tilts, intrigued by their approach as she bows her head in silence, growing closer to the bars with a great sigh.
Iris: (Remorseful) "I am sorry for whatever burden you have come to seize . . . My Queen"
At this moment, Queen Jennifer reveals herself from the shrouded darkness, dressed in a fine slim red corset that falls upon the dirt as she releases her anger upon Iris who sits before her.
Queen Jennifer: (Voice Rising) "Don't you sympathise with me Witch!" (Striking the bars infront)
Queen Jennifer: "You promised me, you showed me what would take place!"
Iris nods once more, agreeing with what she showed Jennifer.
Iris: "For what I showed you was the truth My Queen, however for what is to come forth it cannot possible include you or a child of yours. I've feared the consequences . . ." Iris is rudely interrupted.
Queen Jennifer: "Do you think I care about the bloody consequences Witch?!" Iris Intercedes.
Iris: "I've feared the consequences of what my actions would withhold but the future I have seen, the future I have seen without what was to come from your future is far better. I understand what will happen to me but I can promise you one thing . . ."
(Rising to the Queen's face beyond the bars)
Iris: "I can promise you that no amount of pain that I endure will be suffice to the pain you will receive. For that . . . I greatly apologise" Iris sympathizes with Jennifer for a moment, striking fear into the eyes of the formidable Queen.
Above within the winds of the city, a horse and carriage follow swiftly behind, parking alongside a black carriage that Queen Jennifer rode within. From inside, departs King Noah who becomes intrigued, staring up towards the Cathedral before entering inside.
Below, Queen Jennifer clings to the throat of Iris who remains still before the bars. She struggles to breath as Jennifer's strength grows.
Queen Jennifer: "Show me!" She repeats, referring to the visions in which Iris speaks of.
Above the Dungeons, King Noah hears the raging roars from an angered Jennifer as he swiftly approaches an opened Stairwell that begins to lead into the depths of the Cathedral itself.
Whilst he makes his way down, Queen Jennifer is released from the visions of Iris. Iris' eyes begin to stabilize, returning from its eerie mist, reflecting upon Queen Jennifer who stands bewildered, tears swelling in her eyes. She remains dazed, confused as she tries to stand.
Queen Jennifer shakes her head in denial. However, her eyes glow with envy. Her voice breaking for Iris' name.
Queen Jennifer: "Please . . . No, You have to change it! I beg of you! I have a son, a family. For what you have shown me, it would tear my family apart!" She pleads with Iris.
However, Iris remains still showing remorse for a broken Jennifer who begins to weep to herself, pleading for change upon Iris' visions that are currently unknown.
From behind, King Noah's shadow appears before the two. Thus, intrigues Iris as her head rises nodding with acceptance as she turns to the Queen.
Iris: "For we all have a price to pay, My Queen" She awaits for King Noah to enter who speaks for his wife.
King Noah: "My Love?" he startles her, Queen Jennifer turning to see her husband before her.
Queen Jennifer: "Noah . . . Noah" She wipes at her face, cleansing it of the tears.
King Noah: "What is this foul place?" he strikes disgust, striking a glance at Iris.
King Noah: "W- . . . What is that thing?"
Queen Jennifer: (Turning back to see a tearful Iris beginning to weep)
Queen Jennifer: "A guardsman at the Castle reported of . . . " (Her voice breaking with shame)
Queen Jennifer: "They reported how Citizens of the Citadel reported of strange occurrences happening within this Cathedral. I came with one of the servants and found this" (Pointing to the cage)
King Noah: "What is this?" He asks again.
Queen Jennifer: "A witch. The last of her kind within our City, However she's far dangerous than she seems" (Jennifer beginning to lie forcefully much to her own dismay) "She's got a power, one in which cannot be controlled. I request for you my Majesty as Queen of Ellesm茅ra that this Witch . . . Be burned at the stake"
King Noah watches his wife with confusion, staring at the frail woman within the cage as he nods.
King Noah: "By Act 57, Section 2037 I hear by grant you the permission for the continued act"
King Noah bows his head, his wife turning to the cage as the King's guardmans move towards the dungeons upon their request.
Queen Jennifer: (Her hand upon the steel bars) "I'm so sorry" she bestows remorse.
Iris nods gently, a single tear upon her cheek as Queen Jennifer tugs at a small letter opener that remains in her corset.
Queen Jennifer: "For us to ensure she doesn't enact any of her wicked curses upon the Citizens of our sacred town, I bring forth the honor and integrity of my house!"
Queen Jennifer forces her hand through the bar, the small sharp object piercing the eye of an unsuspecting Iris who jilts back, her preposterous screams reigning through the Cathedral as it begins to shake, Iris' eyes burning in white smoke as streams of blood pour from her left eye.
King Noah: "What did you do!"
Queen Jennifer: (Falling back towards her Husband as she becomes bewildered)
Queen Jennifer: "W-. . . What I saw"
Iris' screams fade, her eyes returning to her majestic blue before keeling over from shock. Within her eye remains the object that pierces her eye, blood beginning to seep through the bars and into the Earth below.
