New's Movie Taste: All Stars - ROUND 1..

1 NewNightmare7, Apr 24, 2022

Hello and welcome to the elimination round.
With our Bottom 2, here are the submissions and critiques:
nateclove - Splinter (2008) - Hmm. I can tell this is very inspired stylistically in 28 Days Later with the handheld cinematography but I feel as though it misses the point of it. Yeah that film had shaky cam but it wasn't like you couldn't see anything. This movie is just a bunch of blur. That being said, I like the concept. A convict holding people hostage while dealing with a splinter infection. Its an interesting idea and the effects are pretty good as well! Honestly this isn't a terrible movie I could have fun with this. If I could actually see what I want to see to have a good time. Thats my main frustration and it does take me out of it. That being said I do find this to be a pretty ok movie so yeah!
Voila - Me, Myself and Irene (2000) - Hmm. So last season someone submitted Dumb & Dumber and I was pretty underwhelmed by that movie just because that kind of comedy doesnt appeal to me and when I saw that its the same directors and Jim Carrey doing the same comedy I was very skeptical. But I have to say I had a great time with this movie. I don't know why it said somewhere that it was slapstick cause I disagree. I thought the situational humor was amazing. There were some great narration jokes, subtle humor and Jim Carrey's split performance is so good. Its not obnoxious and the sons are hilarious as well. I don't know I just had a better time with this movie and I'm pretty pleased!
And so with that, the first eliminated contestant from New's Movie Taste: All Stars is...

16 NewNightmare7, Apr 12, 2022

Hello and welcome to the first round of ALL STARS!
Im so excited to get into it so lets just jump in!
Before I start, I have the results of the poll. It was decided by a pretty large ammount that we go with the NATURAL format! So there will be bottom 2's this season and those rounds decide the elimination.
So for Round 1 I wanna explore films from where you reside. This is all about HOMELAND! If you are outside of North America, send a film from your country <3
If you are inside North America however, there are two options and you must choose 1:
1. Submit a film that takes place in your state/province
2. Submit a film that was filmed in your state/province
When you submit, state what option you chose and where it takes place/filmed <3
*NOTE* Films used in previous seasons are still ineligble to be submitted.
Good luck! Im excited to get into it!

New's Movie Taste S3 - ROUND 1

16 NewNightmare7, Mar 11, 2022

Hello and welcome to New's Movie Taste!!! I am so excited to get started on Season 3! This is a great cast and I'm ready to see what you all will bring to the competition. All Stars is just around the corner so make a good impression! <3
*I hope none of y'all are epileptic but let me know and I'll take the gif down*
So for the first round, because we are starting with 12 and I was not prepared for 12, I am imrpovising!!! It's a vibe. Anyways, you have FREE CHOICE for the round and can send whatever you want but there are a couple catches:
1. You have to state what SUB GENRE you are using. This is in reference to main genres but a genre within it (E.X: Supernatural for Horror or Superhero for Action).
2. Once someone has taken that sub genre, no one can post a movie that would fit under that category. It doesn't mean the whole genre is gone, just that specific Sub Genre
3. You cannot submit any films from the previous two seasons!!! I have a chart but its sometimes hard to access so if you have a movie you can try to submit it and i'll let you know if it's been used or you can ask me beforehand.
If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask <3 this is gonna be a bit of a harder season given the ammount of movies not available but I trust that you all will kill it.
You have 24 hours to post! Please state the film, year and sub genre for this round and yeah! Good luck <3
1. paul028 - You're Next (2011) (Home Invasion) ✅
2. @Volleyball1 - Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007) (Musical)
3. stuartlittle16 - Pirates of the Carribean: Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) (Swashbuckler) ✅

New's Movie Taste S2 - FINALE (RESULTS)

6 NewNightmare7, Mar 10, 2022

With that we end the game today.
I would like to thank everyone for participating and giving it an amazing effort. I love hosting this game and I hope you all enjoyed it!
With that, what a strong final 4! Here are the critiques:
Booyahhayoob - Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) - Honestly...a masterpiece just from every aspect and when I say masterpiece I truly mean it. From the opening Hoth scenes to the Dagobah system to Floating Cloud city. This is truly a movie where I don't think a single moment is wasted and it comes to phenomenal directing and writing. Taking everything that worked about the almost masterpiece of A New Hope and heightening it to an all time high this movie just makes everything that came after suffer in comparison because the best expansion that could have been made...was made. Talking about your journey, you have definitely taken a more mainstream approach to this game and people can take that as a negative but you made sure to pick mainstream movies that were sucessful for a reason and that kept you consistently safe and never in danger of being eliminated. While it can be viewed as the safe approach, it worked for you and this movie could be the one that puts it over the top.
CarolinaSteele - Titanic (1997) - If there is anything I appreciate more is that I have never seen a filmmaker spent so much time into researching. I love how much he is obsessed with Titanic but god I would not have wanted to be a part of this movie. I love that James Cameron was labelled "The Scariest Man in Hollywood" because of this movie and the fact that he literally got poisoned by another person who was fed up is shocking. But the effort really shows in this movie. I personally think this is one of the best movies ever made. I know people love to harp on it for its success but I don't care. I grew up on this movie watching it when I was 8 for the first time and just bawling my head off. Ever since then I love watching it. I think it has something for everyone to enjoy. Historians will appreciate most of the accuracy, romance people will adore the characters, people who are more action oriented will be invested the latter half when the ship sinks. It just has everything and I can't stress enough how much I truly love this movie. For your journey, you have definitely kept up with submitting long as hell movies but all of them I have thoroughly enjoyed and you started strong and dominated a majority of the competition. I love how you chose movies that were true to your enjoyment so we'll see if thats enough to win!
Voila - The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012) - Oh fuck yeah I love this movie. When I first watched it I was young, in the closet and a loner that was extremely depressed looking for a place in this world and I really related to this movie. It is so well directed and the 3 lead..

New's Movie Taste S2 - ROUND 1 (RESULTS)

6 NewNightmare7, Feb 1, 2022

Hello and welcome to the first results show of season 2!
Getting this out a little later than expected. I was hoping to get it done for Sunday but I got very busy. I definitely appreciate the patience and continue to ask for it as life will definitely get in the way at some point.
With that, someone will be eliminated tonight, lets find out who shall we?
The following contestants are SAFE:
Voila - Liar Liar (1997) - Alot of this movie is just Jim Carrey screaming like a dinosaur and im not upset about it! I really enjoyed this! Its a simple concept but its played so well! Jim Carrey is phenomenal. Its so interesting to see everyone so chill and just responding to him so calmly while he is just so bonkers but pop off. Also Jennifer Tilly is great and I love her. Despite only viewing this once I do think this has a rewatchable quality and I look forward to watching it again sometime!.
Tanarexix - Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) - I've never seen a Kevin Smith movie so this is a new experience. This was definitely something! Honestly it was just a good time. There are some jokes that never landed for me but there were some that definitely did and it was nice to just turn my brain off and watch something light and fun. I love Shannon Elizabeth and she killed it. Alot of this cast did. I think of the two I prefer Silent Bob because he just seems really chill and sweet. Jay is alot but the chemistry works. I dont think I would enjoy it as much if both of them were constantly spewing the same style of dialogue. Overall, this was fun and I would probably rewatch it somewhere in life.
Booyahhayoob - The Princess Bride (1987) - The only time I have seen this movie was in 7th grade in French class...and yes the movie was in french so it'll be interesting watching it in english. Im glad I got to watch two movies with Cary Elwes in it. I like his charm. This movie is fun! Rob Reiner has a way of keeping nice flow to his movies and he gets really good performances out of the entire cast. I like how the movie doesn't have the most serious tone in the world. It has this adolescence quality that makes the film seem timeless. I dont necessarily know if I would rewatch it but I wouldn't be upset if someone put it on. Good pick!
Iindsay - The Florida Project (2017) - So im a start off by saying im not really a fan of slice of life movies. Most of the time I don't find them engaging or entertaining. I will say its definitely more interesting seeing this style of film from children's perspective. As someone who works with them, its avery accurate depiction of scatterbrain adventures and I really enjoyed that. The movie also looks beautiful. Alot of wide shots that capture the scenery and feel of Florida. I dont know I relate alot to the movie having spent a good ammount of time there as a kid and meeting others like the ones in the movie. Then the movie gets very depressing and it..

New's Movie Taste - FINALE (RESULTS)

6 NewNightmare7, Jan 21, 2022

OMG its the end!!! Its been such a journey! Im so shooketh!
I have to applaud you all and everyone that played. I am so greatful you all chose and continued to participate through the whole game despite my hiatus and long lasting game. You are the best and I thank you all again!
With that said, here are the final critiques!:
demgirl6 - Beetlejuice (1988) - Ooo going with a Tim Burton finale. Pop off! I had this Tim Burton push a while ago where I watched so many of his movies and U have to say Beetlejuice is just so much fun. Michael Keaton chews up the scenery despite not actually being in it for a long time (I expected longer I guess) but the true star is Geena Davis. What a sweetheart I stan her. Im always a fan of the set designs on his movies as well as the music
Something about it really clicks. A really strong ending to a phenomenal journey you had. I love how you came back and stayed strong all the way to the end.
PennyTrationStan - Nowhere (1997) - Oh pop off with another Gregg Araki film! Mysterious Skin was so good so I was very excited for this! Oh my god what a movie. There is so much that is now burned into my brain i'll never recover. Like oh my god what the fuck is that ending!!!! This movie is great though. Before this game I have really no indie film experience but you have definitely helped me explore it a bit and so far I love what I see. I really enjoy weird and bizarre movies and this just works. The tone is like perfect for its material and the cast kills it, but particularily Rachel True, shes an icon and the moment. I like that this movie has no main plotline and its just alot of weird stories convulging into one it ties nicely. I have loved your journey in this game and this ties it together. Well done!
turkeylover - Perfect Blue (1997) - Okay but why did that song in the opening have to be that good? No right! I...this movie unsettled me. Like I am in shock right now. I dont know what the hell just happened but oh my god...that was just so good. It is such a reality bending experience I would have to take alot of time to really comprehend what happened but what I can say is this movie was so fucking good. The animation, the music, the tension it just kept going and didnt end and I was so invested. God I need to get into Anime more because that just blew my mind. Fuck
Symmetry888 - Knives Out (2019) - Going out with an instant classic! Much respect. I loved watching this in the theatre so I was a little hesitant going into this knowing the outcome but I gotta say, it is a completely different experience knowing the outcome and watching it play out. This movie is also just extremely entertaining. Particularily when the interviews end and the entire family gathers. I love the banter they all have its just extremely entertaining. Despite you not winning any weeks, you have..

New's Movie Taste - ROUND 1 (RESULTS)

4 NewNightmare7, Nov 5, 2021

Hello and welcome back to my movie taste game!
What a great opening round! There was not one movie I disliked and that is great! With that being said, there are no LOW placements or BOTTOM placements this round, only a WIN and HIGH. <3
Here are the critiques:
Jaxon - Trick r' Treat (2007) - I literally just watched this for the first time this halloween right before the game started! I really enjoyed the film. It is really nicely paced and a fun time overall. Anna Paquin kills it and Sam is so adorable!!! (With the sack on). Its also shot pretty nicely and the colours/lighting is really cool especially for the 2000's era where all horror movies have a gross or bland colour grading. If this is a film that speaks to your taste than I know you enjoy films that are fun and im on board for that! Overall, a great horror movie that definitely entertains for the halloween season.
txashaun - White Oleander (2002) - To be honest, I had low expectations going into this film because it just seemed like a movie that didn't appeal to me but I really enjoyed this. Seeing this girl just continue to crumble was very devastating in a way that I strongly relate to. This movie had weight and substance while Thomas Newman's score was so subtle and beautiful. I'm excited to see what you have to offer going forward
tyleror - Sucker Punch (2011) - Hmm. This is an interesting one. Im not really a fan of Zack Snyder's visual style but I have to say I really did enjoy this movie for the most part. There are issues and clunkyness but it makes up for the interesting characters, particularily Rocket. Jena Malone kills this movie and I found her to be the best part. The action set pieces were also very enioyable. With all that said, I despised the ending. Im not gonna spoil it if some here haven't seen it and decide to read this but I was so let down with the ending because it makes a majority of the film feel irrelevant and a majority of that ending could have been good and satisfying had it not been for one particular moment. A fun movie none the less and if I had to rewatch it, I would!
turkeylover - Jawbreaker (1999) - Hmm...i'll start with my negatives. The movie gives me insane Heathers vibes which is great but in comparison it lacks the heart and witt of what makes Heathers iconic. Also, the transitions with those awful sound effects were horrendous. That being said, what a phenomenal cast!!! Everyone kills it especially the highly underrated Julie Benz (who is great in Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and Judy Greer. The movie works because of its cast I feel and that alone is good enough for me!
Becksta20 - Unbreakable (2000) - M. Night at one of his finest works. While it is a little bit slow paced, the film works wonders in what its achieving. I love the concept of this movie and the twist is fun for sure..
