New's Movie Taste S2 - ROUND 1 (RESULTS)

Feb 1, 2022 by NewNightmare7
Hello and welcome to the first results show of season 2!

Getting this out a little later than expected. I was hoping to get it done for Sunday but I got very busy. I definitely appreciate the patience and continue to ask for it as life will definitely get in the way at some point.

With that, someone will be eliminated tonight, lets find out who shall we?

The following contestants are SAFE:

Voila - Liar Liar (1997) - Alot of this movie is just Jim Carrey screaming like a dinosaur and im not upset about it! I really enjoyed this! Its a simple concept but its played so well! Jim Carrey is phenomenal. Its so interesting to see everyone so chill and just responding to him so calmly while he is just so bonkers but pop off. Also Jennifer Tilly is great and I love her. Despite only viewing this once I do think this has a rewatchable quality and I look forward to watching it again sometime!.

Tanarexix - Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001) - I've never seen a Kevin Smith movie so this is a new experience. This was definitely something! Honestly it was just a good time. There are some jokes that never landed for me but there were some that definitely did and it was nice to just turn my brain off and watch something light and fun. I love Shannon Elizabeth and she killed it. Alot of this cast did. I think of the two I prefer Silent Bob because he just seems really chill and sweet. Jay is alot but the chemistry works. I dont think I would enjoy it as much if both of them were constantly spewing the same style of dialogue. Overall, this was fun and I would probably rewatch it somewhere in life.

Booyahhayoob - The Princess Bride (1987) - The only time I have seen this movie was in 7th grade in French class...and yes the movie was in french so it'll be interesting watching it in english. Im glad I got to watch two movies with Cary Elwes in it. I like his charm. This movie is fun! Rob Reiner has a way of keeping nice flow to his movies and he gets really good performances out of the entire cast. I like how the movie doesn't have the most serious tone in the world. It has this adolescence quality that makes the film seem timeless. I dont necessarily know if I would rewatch it but I wouldn't be upset if someone put it on. Good pick!

Iindsay - The Florida Project (2017) - So im a start off by saying im not really a fan of slice of life movies. Most of the time I don't find them engaging or entertaining. I will say its definitely more interesting seeing this style of film from children's perspective. As someone who works with them, its avery accurate depiction of scatterbrain adventures and I really enjoyed that. The movie also looks beautiful. Alot of wide shots that capture the scenery and feel of Florida. I dont know I relate alot to the movie having spent a good ammount of time there as a kid and meeting others like the ones in the movie. Then the movie gets very depressing and it becomes extremely sad to watch and almost triggering. I did not enjoy the downfall of this mother despite it being told very well. I think overall, the movie is really good! I would never rewatch it (which kind of is the point of the round) but what an interesting experience that will stay in my mind for a while.

JayElVeeIsBack - Blow (2001) - I've heard of this movie somewhere during life but I never got around to it. Johnny Depp sounds like Evan Peters in this movie and I dont know how I feel about it and his hair gets progressively worse as the movie goes along. There are things I enjoy. Depp's performance is very strong and the overall storyline is investing as well as the cinematography. Also Cliff Curtis in his very short role steals the show and its great. As for negatives, I don't really enjoy the idea of making a drug smuggler sympathetic but pop off. I also dont know if i'd rewatch again. So overall, while not an objectively bad film (it has its moments), I wouldn't revisit it.

Congrats on making it to the second round! Now onto our TOP 3:

Lifeiscool - The Hunger Games (2012) - Oh man I was obsessed with this movie when it first came out. I found the Battle Royale concept so interesting and I was enthralled in this movie. A large part of it is the style of this movie. A majority of it is on handheld and makes you feel like you are in the experience. I find this one the best of the 4 because it has that raw factor when it comes to the games. The music is also very beautiful and I love listening to it every now and then. Jennifer Lawrence is great obviously but I was always interested in Clove! She was my favourite and was robbed! Anyways, the ammount of times I have rewatched this movie is insane and I still enjoy watching it every now and then so great pick!

CarolinaSteele - Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) - So the only time I have ever tried to watch this movie was years ago when I was pretty young and I passed out. I watched the first Hobbit movie somewhere a couple years later but never returned to the series. I think this movie is cursed for me cause as im trying to watch it, my developing Sinus infection continues to get worse and im in excrutiating pain. Anyways, this movie is great omg! Im pissed I watched it feeling like crap cause it took a while instead of one full sitting but man the world building, the character development, the cinematography and locations. There really is alot to enjoy and it has praise for a reason. The performances are stellar from everyone in the cast. Sean Bean doing his Sean Bean thing is great and the action is really well done as well. Im excited to cotninue the series if I ever get around to it. I need to find The Two Towers on blu ray when I can.

NanoNerd - The World's End (2013) - I love Edgar Wright! His style is so appealing to me and im here for it. There hasn't been a movie of his I haven't disliked. What really works for me about every movie is the attention to detail not just in the style (although that is immaculate), but the storytelling. Its made by people who genuinely care so much about their craft. This movie is great! Its just alot of fun. The weight is there with Simon Pegg just wanting to relive his youth (something even in youth I relate to) and I love the concept. Its weird but it works and again its fun which fits this theme. I think ultimately this might be my least favourite Edgar Wright film so far but since I've loved every single one i've seen, that doesn't do much. I will most likely rewatch this alot!

And the winner of round 1 is.....

NanoNerd! Congratulations! CarolinaSteele and Lifeiscool will recieve HIGH placements

With that we move onto our BOTTOM 2:

Thirteen - Race with the Devil (1975) - Hmm I dont know if this kind of movie is for me. Its not a bad movie per say but I don't think its one i'd actively seek out. One thing I liked though was with the motorbikes, the way the camera would be positioned on the actors. Had a Requiem for a Dream quality to it. I also liked the not so happy ending. I like satanic cult concepts probably a bit more than I do the execution cause most of it feels the same. Again, its not a bad movie just probably not for me.

Yawnha - Murder Mystery (2019) - A Adam Sandler netflix comedy...I had some reservations about this going into it and yeah I wasn't feeling this. It was just a basic concept not really well executed. A huge issue with this movie and some Adam Sandler movies is having his marriage be struggling because it brings out the worst in the characters. I didnt really care about these two and what would happen to them. I do love Jennifer Aniston as she is an icon and she does do what she can with what she is given but yeah. Unfortunately its just not my vibe

And with that, the eliminated contestant is...
