“I just want to sleep,” Ripper says, laying down on the ground.
Zebadiah lays beside her, looking up at the sky. “I know....Me to. We'll just have to keep each other awake”
Ripper smiles a bit, pressing herself against Zebadiah's body as she nestles her head against his chest. She liked him, more than she should. In a game where only 1 person makes it out alive, it was dangerous to have any sort of connection. But Zebahdiah made her feel safe, protected. In a situation like the one they were in, it was like striking gold. She figured that was why she fell for him so quickly. Since he offered her something she needed, comfort.
Zebadiah slowly curls his arm around her, holding her tightly.
Thuckle sits by the fire, brushing the wood chunks to help the fire grow. Staring at Ripper and Zebadiah.
The careers stay by the cornucopia, having their 3rd meal of the day. Lux, the youngest and presumed weakest of the careers, passes the rations to the others. The careers working in a sort of class system. The older and tougher you were the more food you got, more chances to get kills, and leadership. Well the younger careers would get less food, would have to cater to the elder careers.
Cresta reaches for the small pot full of soup, feeling the warmth in her hands. And suddenly feeling the warm splatter of her own blood as the arrow shoots through her forearm.
“AAAAAA!” Cresta screams as she drops the pot.
“Damn,” Tiberia mumbles to herself from the safety of the woods, loading another arrow. She was good with a bow, she could hit the target most of the time. But never a kill shot it seemed.
The careers act fast, quickly taking refuge behind crates, to protect themselves from arrows.
“Hermaya, can you get a shot?” Galus yells.
Hermaya readies her own bow, loading an arrow she peaks over the crate only to see Cedric.
“Watch out!” Hermaya screams.
Galus leans back, Cedric's knife tearing into the crate only inches from his face. Cedric rips the knife out as he smashes against the crate, knocking it back. The crates were the only thing providing the careers with cover. He needed to get rid of them, then the odds would be in his favour. With arrows hitting them they wouldn't last long.
Cedric grabs one of the crates, throwing it aside, exposing Lux. Lux looks up from his kneeling position, once protected by the crate but not no more. He has no time to react before an arrow tears into his gut. Cedric leaning forward and jamming his knife through Lux's eye.
BOOM!
Cedric yanks Lux's body away before turning his attention back to removing crates.
Cresta suddenly exposes herself, swinging her trident at Cedric. Cedric falls back as the trident slices threw the air. Hermaya takes this chance to see where the other attacker is shooting from. She watches, suddenly seeing the arrow fly from the brush. Tearing into Cresta's shoulder.
Hermaya leaps out from behind the crate, firing her arrow. Tiberia loads her bow when suddenly the arrow jabs into the trunk of a tree, just a few inches from her face.
Cresta slams her trident down, Cedric rolling out of the way as the 3 spikes weapon jabs into the soft ground. She looks at Hermaya, depending on the girl to keep the person firing arrows distracted long enough for her to kill Cedric. But her hopes are cut short when an arrow rips into Hermaya's leg. Hermaya dropping to the ground.
“Fuck this,” Cresta mumbles before she grabs her bag, fleeing from the attack.
Hermaya lays on the ground, seeing Cresta flee. “Get back here!!!” Hermaya screams. She looks at Cedric who stands up, gripping his knife. She quickly grabs her bow but scrambles to find an arrow, the arrows having scattered when she fell. She looks around, knowing Cedric is getting close.
Galus suddenly emerges from behind a crate, slamming into Cedric and knocking him down. He reaches, grabbing Hermaya with one arm like she weighs only a few pounds, lifting her up and bolting into the brush.
Tiberia lowers her bow. Their attack being a success. Having killed 1 career, injured 2, and claimed the cornucopia and its supplies.
Penny stumbles through the arena, her eyes droopy from going for so long without sleep. But she knows she has to stay awake, has to keep moving. She was an easy target for any tribute. She needed to find Zebadiah in order to have a chance in this game.
Zebadiah lays on the ground, holding Ripper close as she sleeps. He was watching the forest edge, seeing the yellowish eyes of one of the mutts. They knew she was sleeping, but due to Zebadiah being so close and awake they wouldn't try to attack her. Instead they were waiting for Zebadiah to also fall asleep.
He looks at Ripper brushing the hair from her face. Too distracted to notice the knife. It rips through his hand and enters Ripper's throat. Her eyes shooting awake.
Thuckle rips the knife out. He has watched Ripper and Zebadiah get close, it was dangerous for his game. He needed them gone to have a chance. He readies his knife again as he swings at Zebadiah but Zebadiah dodges the attack, jumping to his feet. He looks to see Thuckle fleeing, vanishing behind the woods.
It's the sound of Ripper gasping and gurgling, trying to get air but only blood filling her lungs, that shoots Zebadiah out of his anger state. He quickly drops to his knees, covering her throat with his hands, trying to stop the bleeding.
“No, no, no, no,” Zebadiah panics as he presses harder on her throat.
“you...H-have. To win,” Ripper manages to get out.
Zebadiah tries to fight back tears as he presses on her wound, feeling her blood pouring out of her neck. Watching as she dies with nothing he can do. He sits beside her, holding her neck as her lips turn white, her pulse grows weak, and her breathing shallows.
BOOM!
