Episode Ten - Season Finale: "The Funeral

Grey clouds cover the sky over New Haven, a small car drives down a pathway and stops at the bottom of a hill. Getting out of the car, Tisha begins to walk up the hill. Her black clothing representing the state of mourning that she is feeling. Tisha looks down at the bottom of the hill, a small graveyard standing alone and as she walks to the top of the hill, a church grows in size. Tisha reaches the top of the hill, the church doors wide open as others stand inside. Tisha makes her way inside the church, others around her wearing black as they converse in small talk to remember the lives of John and Evelyn. Samuel greets Tisha with a small introduction, “I’m glad you made it on time.” Tisha smiles at him, looking around the room to see the other Descendants here as well. Quinton walks up to Tisha, “Hey! Are you ready?” Tisha shrugs her shoulders at Quinton, “Am I ready to be at this funeral? No, but it has to be done.” Sabrina, Chandler, Mac and Kate join in on Tisha’s conversation with Samuel and Quinton. “Are you sitting with us?” asks Sabrina, holding Mac’s hand as the two both wear red roses, one in Sabrina’s hair and another in Mac’s shirt pocket. Tisha nods her head, looking at the front row bench where she will sit beside her friends. Mia, Wendy, Anthony, Ariel and Gabriel gather around each other on the other side of the church. “So Edward and his cronies won’t be here?” asks Anthony. “I don’t think Crimson would risk it” replies Mia, glancing at Crimson who sits alone in one of the bench rows. The groups halt their conversations for a moment as all their heads turn towards Bailey and Jayla who enter the church. “Why did they invite the humans?” whispers Ariel, judging the two newcomers appearance. “Bailey knew John apparently” explains Wendy, watching as the two walk towards Tisha and Samuel. “Thank you for inviting us” thanks Bailey, Jayla standing behind her. “It’s no problem!” expresses Tisha, smiling to see her old friend. “We would have been glad to include Veronica but-” Tisha is cut off from Jayla. “We held our own funeral” states Jayla, walking away to find a seat. Bailey looks embarrassed, “Sorry about that…” Tisha holds her hand up, “I shouldn’t have asked…” Bailey leaves to rejoin Jayla, Adore, and Brittany sitting beside each other. Adore looks around at the two huge groups of people as the two of them sit alone, “Well who would have thought that you and I would be sitting together?” notes Adore. “I’ve finally come to terms that I won’t be getting a new phone” sighs Brittany, looking down at the floor. “Poor you…” says Adore.

Gabriel looks around nervously, scared of all the unknown people. “You look fine,” says Wendy, trying to calm Gabriel down. “I know I look fine, but this is all really overwhelming” acknowledges Gabriel. “I know it’s hard to learn that you’re a Descendant, but you settle down with the idea eventually.” Wendy looks over at Ariel, not enjoying her time at the funeral, “Or hopefully, you’ll try to…” Elsewhere in the room, Kate pulls Mac away to mention something, “Did you find out who wrote the letter?” Mac looks at Kate oddly, “It’s been barely two days since we discovered that I didn’t write it, and we’re at a funeral right now!” Kate bites her lip, “I’m sorry, but I just really want to know who did it.” Mac looks at Kate, “This isn’t the time or place.” Mac walks away, joining Sabrina as she talks to Chandler. “When is this going to start?” demands Chandler, fanning herself to try to cool off. “I know that the clouds are covering the sky, but it’s still really hot in here!” Mac and Sabrina both giggle, “It’s only for a few hours” says Sabrina, trying to comfort her friend. Sabrina looks at Mac, “I was thinking, maybe after this, we could do take two on our dinner date since the last one didn’t go too well?” Mac grins at her, “Of course, and this time, I won’t run out because my long-lost sister returns to town.” Crimson stands on a small stage around two closed coffins, Evelyn and John’s decaying bodies within. “It is time to start the funeral procession” announces Crimson, ushering everyone to take their seats. “I’m sorry how I acted the other day…” says Ariel, sitting beside Anthony as the noise in the church grows silent. Anthony is unable to respond, flashing a look to Ariel as Crimson continues, “Today we remember the lives of John Doe and Evelyn Shields, taken from us too early. Before I begin the eulogy, I would like to invite Samuel and Tisha up here to say a few words on the deceased behalfs.”

Crimson walks off stage, Tisha walking on stage first. Tisha stands in the middle of the stage, eying the crowd of her friends as she takes a deep breath, pausing for a moment before she begins, “Most of you didn’t really know Evelyn, and I was more focused of my powers, or the love crisis with my friends or trying to save the world from evil.” The crowd faintly laughs at Tisha’s remarks before she continues, “But, my cousin Evelyn was a brave woman. Most of you knew her as a hooters girl at the local bar or the crazy freak who knew how to use her mouth, but underneath it all, she was human just like the rest of us. She had her good days and bad days, had difficulties to find ends meet, and she wasn’t always their perfect fierce woman who we thought she was. She came to New Haven at the most awkward time of my life, but she brought so much normal into my life when I thought there would be no way to continue. She wanted Quinton to be my boyfriend, she danced for men to buy groceries for me, and she was like an older sister to me and I'll never forget her.” Tisha finishes her sentence, leaving the stage.

Samuel takes his place at the center of the stage, his shoulders tucked in from his nervousness. “So um most of you knew John from like school but um, John wasn’t always one to be very outspoken, only when he wanted to tell everyone that he hated Bailey.” Bailey smiles, people nervously laughing around her. “Anyways, I don’t really know how to explain to you how um… special that John was to me. He had almost died once before but somehow he survived and then he kissed me and then… it doesn’t matter anymore. John is dead and I can’t do anything about it.” A tear falls down Samuels' eyes, “John is dead… and I couldn’t help him...John is dead.” Tisha comes on stage to comfort Samuel, the two exiting to the benches as Crimson returns to perform the eulogy.

“Today is a day about remembering those who were taken from us too early, but also about being able to carry on. It’s easy to remember all the suffering from the mistakes we’ve made in the past and things we wish we could change, but it’s also important to look towards the future. If we dwell in the past, the future holds nothing for us. You will only regret the chances you didn’t take, the relationships you were afraid to have and the decisions you waited too long to make. I implore you all, John and Evelyn would never want to remain grief-stricken about them. Never regret the things that made you happy, and the mistakes you made along they way, are just the lessons you’ve learned.” Crimson finishes her speech and exits the stage, Tisha returning to the stage as the music begins to play. The soft classical music fills the room as people close their eyes. Tisha listens to the chords and sings, “Fly away little pretty birds. Fly...Fly away… Fly away little pretty birds. And pretty you will always stay. I see in your eyes promise. Your own tender love you embrace. Fly away little pretty birds, go far away… Fly away littl-”

The music stops as Tisha looks towards Crimson, the crowd looking around for the answer. The music begins again, only this time, eerie melodies begins to play. A voice appears from the speakers places around the church, “Ladies and gentlemen, we interrupt your regular planned funeral for an unexpected surprise. The voice stops, people looking around in confusion as one of the coffins open up, Ruthie appearing from the inside as she holds out a small pistol, “Nobody move!” Several people stand to run out the doors, the doors slamming shut as Bobby walks in with a demon to each side of him. Ruthie jumps out of the coffin, running towards Tisha and holding the gun to her head, those who tried to escape now return to their seats. “Now we can do this like the civil freaks that you are, or I can insert a bullet into Tisha’s head.” Crimson stands and faces Bobby, “What do you want?” Bobby cackles, his demons guarding the door to make sure no one leaves. “We are gathered here today to one simple goal, to show you that you will never win. To show that our goal goes farther than all of you. Look at yourselves, protecting those who would want to kill you.” Bobby glances at Jayla and Bailey, the two holding hands to show their unity. “Humans will never understand you, and it’s people like Crimson who teach you to control your powers and use them for good.” Crimson looks around the room, “These people choose to help others, not create a division to stand against humans.” Bobby raises his eyebrows, “It’s a shame you captured Edward, he was of such great use to me, but it doesn’t matter now.” Quinton and Mac stand, holding out their hands to cast their powers, Quinton creating a water bolt and sending it towards Ruthie and Mac who causes plants to rise from the floor and attack Bobby. Bobby’s two demons attack the plants as Ruthie is hit by the bolt of water. Her body is knocked back as Quinton joins Tisha on stage. Sabrina stands up beside Mac, Chandler soon following her as Crimson ignites a flame around her hand. Ruthie stands on the ground, Tisha and Quinton ready to cast their waters spells on her as Bobby battles with Mac and Crimson. Anthony stands, “Come on, we need to help!” Ariel, Brittany, Mia, Wendy, Adore and Gabriel all stand. Crimson’s voice grows louder, “Get out of here! All of you!” The group of them make their way to the door, only to be blocked by one of Bobby’s demons. Crimson repeats her fire spells as Bobby continues to dodge, the room suddenly growing quiet as the second coffin open, Evelyn stepping out of it alive. Tisha drops her hand, “Ev-Evelyn?...” Evelyn jumps out of the coffin, “Did you miss me, cousin?” Evelyn casts a whirlwind from her air abilities knocking over Quinton and Tisha. Ruthie stands and walks beside Evelyn. The group attempting to exit are shocked by Evelyn’s appearance, the demon protecting the door making a surprise offensive attack as it tackles Mia to the ground. The demon reveals its fangs, its attempt to kill Mia is halted by Ariel who sends a small shockwave from her electrical abilities towards the demon. “Get off of her!” screams Ariel, trying to protect Mia. The demon hops off Mia and jumps on Ariel, Anthony trying to conjure a spell to teleport the beast away from the church proves unsuccessful as the demon sinks it’s fangs in Ariel’s heart, Ariel screaming in pain as the demon body is pierced by a bolt of electrical energy, not coming from Ariel. Adore and Wendy look towards the main entrance of the church as the doors slam open, the lights flickering on and off as Jenni and Violet enter the church.

Jenni’s eyes glow a bright yellow, the second demon now heading her way to attack her as she points her hand towards the beast, “Back to the hell where you came from!” she yells, a bright light of electricity leaving her hand and hitting the demon’s head. The demon falls on the floor, all of Bobby’s minions now dead. BANG! Head’s turn towards Ruthie who has just shot one bullet from her gun, everyone staying frozen as a faint voice says, “Oh my…” Sabrina drops to the floor, the bullet hitting her heart as blood begins to pour out of her body. Jenni closes her eyes, a gigantic scream coming from her body as she emits a large shockwave, knocking back Bobby, Ruthie, and Evelyn. Bobby lays on the ground, “It’s time to go!” he yells, Evelyn running towards Tisha and whispers into her ear, “I’ll explain everything in the future.” Evelyn and Ruthie now leave the stage, Evelyn sends a gust of the wind towards Jenni and Violet knocking them to the side and allowing the three of them to escape the church. The church doors close as silence falls in the building. “Ant-Anthony..” mumbles Ariel, blood now coming up her throat making it hard to talk. Anthony drops to the floor, trying to do something to save Ariel’s life. “Just hold on Ariel, Just hold on!” Ariel looks up at the roof, “Remember when… we worked….. At the restaurant? That was such...a… good time.” Ariel’s head rests on the floor, her breathing stopping as her eyes close. “No….NO!” shouts Anthony, crying on his dead friend's body. “You’re going to be alright!” comforts Mac, trying to bandage Sabrina’s wound as blood continues to flow out of her body. Sabrina breathes heavily, tears coming out of her eyes as Tisha, Chandler, Crimson, Quinton and Bailey stand around her. “Help me!” screams Mac, shaking Sabrina’s body to make sure she doesn’t shut her eyes. Sabrina looks into Mac’s eyes, “Rem-re-r-...remember our first date?” Sabrina’s eyes stop moving as Mac yells, filling the church with his agony. Mac continues to violently shake her body, it was no use. Nobody says a word, Jenni walks closer to Tisha who turns to look at her, hugging her friend. Crimson watches beside Tisha, Jenni looking at her with anger. “Just to let you all know, our lovely teacher drugged me and sent me to a torture house.” Tisha places her hand on her mouth, “What…” Crimson looks at Tisha, “It’s not what it looks like. I failed her and she needed help…” Jenni pushes Tisha out of the way to face Crimson, “NO! You failed me! I’m done with you Crimson.” Jenni and Violet walk out the doors of the church, leaving the others to mourn. “We can..We can come back from this…” explains Crimson, trying to motivate the others. “I don’t know what to believe anymore…” states Tisha, turning to comfort her friend Mac. Mia and Wendy watch in the background, Mia trying to step forward as Wendy hold her back, “Don’t this...please” begs Wendy. Mia looks at her, “I have to.”

Mia runs up to Mac, “There’s a way to save her.” Mac turns his head sharply to her, “What…” Crimson steps in, “Don’t Mia.” Mia pauses for a moment before saying, “I found in one of Crimson’s books basic spells that Descendants can learn….And Holy ones can resurrect people.” The group looks around at each other, Mac gasping as he tugs on Mia, “Then what are you waiting for? Do it!” Crimson speaks, “In order for a Holy Descendant to perform the resurrection spell, another life must take the place of the one they are resurrecting. There can be no imbalance in the afterlife. And… the one who casts the spell ultimately takes the place of the one they revived.” Chandler’s jaw opens, understanding what has to happen. “I have to take Sabrina’s place…” explains Mia, looking down at her dead body. “We won’t let you!” replies Tisha. Mia looks at her, “It’s not your choice to make, and my destiny as a holy Descendant has been to help others. Please let me help her….” Tisha starts to cry, “But you can’t just go…” Mia’s eyes begin to tear up, “You need her more than me right now…” Mia places her hands on Sabrina’s body, her blood intermingling with Mia’s skin. Mia is about to begin the spell as a hand in placed on her shoulder, Wendy stands behind her. “Please don’t leave me…” Mia holds back her tears, “You’re going to do something great one day Wendy, please don’t forget me.” Mia begins the spell, repeating the incantation in a foreign language as the wind begins to blow around her. Mia smiles as her body disappears, her body fading away into nothing. “Please don’t cry” whispers Mia as her body drifts away, now all but gone. The room stays quiet for a moment, no sound being heard in the room. Sabrina’s head flies up as she gasps for air, breathing as her eyes open. Her friends crowd around her as they all hug her. Sabrina tears up as Crimson now exits the church, standing outside gazing at New Haven in the distance. “Why did you do it?” asks Tisha, the girl seemingly following her outside. Crimson doesn’t answer for a long time, Tisha begins to walk back inside. “It was the only thing I could do” answer Crimson, now walking down the hill. Everyone soon departs the church, nothing but darkness now fills the air as midnight arrives.

Alone in the darkness, a solemn car arrives in the countryside. A mysterious cloaked figure walking into an abandoned building as he enters a secret room. Inside, Bailey and Jayla sit together, the two of them at a small table. The figure throws a bundle of cash on the table, “You succeeded in your task, there is your reward.” Jayla looks at the figure, “Veronica died, I don’t care about your money.” The figure walks towards the two girls as Bailey remains silent, “It doesn’t matter, you did your job.” The figure takes off his mask, revealing himself to be Samuel. “Thank you for killing Danny.”

Comments

Thoughts on The Season Finale?: This changes a lot of my thoughts, I will say that much.  But how they changed I will hold off until the Season Finale assessment.
Opinion on the Surprise Funeral Attack/Evelyn's Return?: We all knew the funeral was going to be a place for an attack.  I'm just surprised Evelyn came back from the dead.  lol
Thoughts on Ariel's Death?: Death at a funeral.  How ironic, but it was sad to see her die.
Thoughts on Mia's Sacrifice to Save Sabrina? Well, it does explain what she read in Crimson's book, but in all honesty, I kind of wish Mia didn't do that so that I could see her grow.
Did you enjoy the Samuel Cliffhanger?: It was interesting.  Does Samuel work for the Syndicate.  lol

The assessment will probably be tomorrow.  It will have Awards, so look forward to that.

ALL I CAN SAY IS OMG. Like seriously that was one of the best episodes you have released so far! The beginning was so nice and omg I felt so bad for Samuel when he was trying to talk :( but then when we got hit with drama, action, suspense, and one million different emotions it was like being on a roller coaster Jesus Christ!

I felt like there would be something big to happen at the funeral, but not as big as that! I love Evelyn's ressurection and can't wait to see her what seems to be evil storyline ahead.

Poor Ariel :( I really enjoyed her as a character and loved her and Anthony's relationship, I almost cried when she died and was talking to Anthony :(

OMG ICONIC QUEEN MIA WHO WOULD HAVE KNOWN THAT IS WHAT SHE HAD READ IN THE BOOK. WHEN SABRINA DIED I LITERALLY CRIED BUT AT THE SAME TIME WAS LOVING THE DRAMA AND MY EMOTIONS BUT THEN MIA SACRIFICED HERSELF AND LIKE OMG I JUST COULD NOT AT THAT WHOLE PART.

I think Samuel is working for the Justice Syndicate. What a shame. Samuel was one of my favourite characters! I hope I like his and Evelyn's evil storylines.

Can't wait for season 3! Season 2 was sooooooo much better than I expected, and I already expected it to be amazing in the first place!
