J2999 & Absol you both unfortunately fell a little short with your car tunes and had to battle it out in the Sing For Your Life for one last chance to stay in the game. You were asked to submit songs of your personal choice to show us what you could bring to the table. I think speaking for both Matt and myself we found both submissions good but on the generic side with neither of them really standing out. Here’s more elaboration on that…
J2999 - Clarity (Zedd ft. Foxes)
M: Some classic EDM right here. Probably one of the first ones to really get big in pop music if I have the age of this right. It’s definitely a banger, and it going off at a club or rave would be awesome because everyone knows it. I enjoy Zedd and I think the voice in this really complimented his style. The song is honestly kinda sad lyrically LOL like idk if they meant it to be but it sound like a lil bit of a toxic relationship to me idk..! I will say it’s another song I’ve heard so many times so that hurts it a bit, but it’s still a good song.
K: I have a passionate hatred for this song. I don’t mind EDM music at all but this is totally not a song I’d wanna hear at a rave/club it’d take many drinks for me to start screaming the lyrics. It’s not a bad song it’s just been overplayed to death and I think anything attached with Zedd or Marshmello’s names turns me off. I do like the lyrics and how upbeat the song is but it’s definitely a throwback I avoid.
Absol - Everybody’s Mother (Kacy Hill)
M: Hmm idk. For me it felt like everything was building up to something bigger and unfortunately I don’t think that ever came. This isn’t exactly my style of music either, so maybe that plays into it. It just felt oddly generic and a little boring I guess. I think she does have talent though, her voice is very nice. Also I enjoyed the lyrics and the story the song told. Overall though, it just wasn’t really for me.
K: I’ve never heard of this artist before but I like her vibe. I feel like the song had so much potential but there were little things here and there that threw it off for me. She’s definitely talented I don’t think the issue is there but the genre/structure of the song was just a little odd to me. It’s a super chill song which I like but again something about the structure of the song or the beat is just not my cup of tea. Not a bad choice though.

Admir came out on top in the previous Sing For Your Life sending iSandeh and mbarnish1 out the door. However, what if this wasn’t their final good-byes? That’s right! mbarnish1, iSandeh, Minie, and Christian_ you are all (the only eligible) contestants who have previously lost a Sing For Your Life. Tonight you four have the chance to redeem yourselves one last time to earn your spot back in the contest. On this blog, you’ll be required to submit two songs. The first song will be a DIFFERENT song choice from the theme you were eliminated on. To refresh your memory here is your designated theme..
As for the theme for today, there’s always those songs that you just LOVE to blast during a car ride and sing along to. So on this blog we want you to submit one of these songs you vibe to on your daily commute. It can be any genre as this is a very subjective theme, but choose a song that really just hits different in the car for you.

mbarnish1, Admir, & iSandeh, you had all received the lowest scores in one of the greatest rounds we’ve had so far. As you three know, there was a lot more at stake tonight because this is a DOUBLE elimination. You were asked to submit a song of personal choice to wow us one last time in this special ‘Sing For Your Life’. Your songs all varied in genre and uniqueness and it really just boiled down to what stood out the most for us. So without further ado, here’s what we thought of your submissions..
Admir - Comatose (Skillet)
M: This was a RISK for a tengaged.com music game, but for me you hit. I am a fan of this type of music from the 2000s era and I could see this being featured in a sports video game or a video package for wrestling, both of which I am a big fan of! The lyrics were really corny, but I really enjoyed the rest of the song. Nice pick!
K: Well duh I’m an emo at heart. Any head banging music is a pass in my books. I really enjoyed this song but I think I’d only play it on rare occasions in my freetime. This isn’t exactly my favorite type of music within that respective genre typically I go for more upbeat headbangers and less I hate my mom and the world type lyrics. This song perfectly captures the era it was released in though so overall a good pick!!
mbarnish1 - Hotel California (Eagles)
M: This song is always a wild ride. Actually looking into the lyrics and their meaning was interesting, I never really knew what the song was about before because it’s so mysterious. But I think it can still be interpreted many ways which is something I like about it. Also isn’t this the song where if you play it backwards it has some hidden dark message or something LOL? Anyways, the song itself is also dark IMO, and hides that darkness with its catchiness and fun instrumentals. I think I would give this a higher rating if I hadn’t heard it 20 million times, but nonetheless it’s a good song and is a real brain fuck which I find fun.
K: This song sounds super familiar and I’ve definitely heard it a million times but it’s never stuck. I definitely do like how chill it is but like Matt said, it’s been super overplayed in the past which kind of kills the vibe of it. The lyrics are also interesting, I like how it’s not just a lo-fi song about nothing, it has meaning. It does get a bit repetitive after a while but it is a good song there’s no arguing that. I just do have beef with music that’s over 5 minutes but good pick!
iSandeh - Pound the Alarm (Nicki Minaj)
M: I feel like I’ve heard this before and the chorus sounds familiar but the rest doesn’t so idk. Speaking of, I really liked the chorus of this. It’s super fun and gets ya going. The rest was sorta meh, I think Nicki has much better in terms of rap. That being said, this is a really good hype song and definitely would get a party going. Also the beginning sounded like a Nintendo theme song which I found really cool. Nice pick.
K: This is on my throwbacks playlist I don’t even care I love this song. Imo this is one of Nicki’s best “old school”/party/dance songs. It is basic and has no meaning but like when you’re 5 vodka lemonades deep at a club this is exactly the song you want to hear it just makes sense. I also weirdly love the rave sounding parts in this song but typically don’t like rave music. Personally I love this song so great choice.

Matt and I enjoy a broad spectrum of music. We love when music makes us FEEL. So, for this theme, that is exactly what we want you to do. useamint - Don’t Take The Money (Bleachers)
M: Aw this was really cute. This is the type of well written love song that I can actually get behind, it’s a little cheesy but just the right amount. It definitely makes ya feel good which is always nice. I will say that if I was in a bad mood I’d probably hate this but luckily for you I’m not! It’s just a really pretty song, lyrically and musically. I love the way it builds up to the chorus and really gets you into it as well. Nice pick!
K: Honestly on the second listen you had me a little bit with this. It’s a really cute song this is definitely something I’d put on my summer playlist and blast with my friends while driving to the beach. I for sure thought it was gonna be some weird quirky indie song I would dislike at first LOL. They’re talented and this song also gives me old school pop vibes which I loved. The video was weird I kind of hated it but the song is good and that’s all that matters!!
J2999 - In Your Eyes (The Weeknd)
M: Oh you’ve finally struck gold with your mainstream selections! This album was awesome and The Weeknd really stepped his game up with it. I was never a fan before outside of a few songs, but now I very much am. On top of that, this song is an absolute BOP. Probably my favourite song of 2020, I’ve sung this song in the shower, in the car, at work, making food, playing video games, with friends, etc. It’s just such an easy song to go off to. Also, everything is complimented so well. The vocals, production, instrumentation, and lyrics all fit together so nicely. Speaking of the lyrics, they are a big part of why I really like this song as well. It paints such a vivid story of a broken relationship. The music video is also awesome. Fantastic pick!
K: Oh I mean...duh. The Weeknd all day every day baby. This entire album reminds me of Willie_ because I don’t think he stopped speaking about it. This album was definitely unique I loved what he did with it, branching out with a different style that was much more 80’s/90’s pop nostalgic. I will say that it’s not my favorite song off the album!! Heartless and Blinding Lights kind of outsold. This song is really chill and just good vibes (even though the lyrics do not agree) so it was definitely a great pick duh.
Christian_ - Because Of You (Reba McEntire ft. Kelly Clarkson)
M: LMAO I’m kinda weak at this being your pick. It really fits you Mr. Underscore! Anyways, this is a good one! Both of their voices are really nice in this, although I absolutely cannot take Reba super seriously, probably because my mom used to watch her show and it just gives me flashbacks to that. So hearing her sing about a shit relationship is kinda jarring, BUT it was a good song and something I could definitely shed a theoretical tear over in the right situation. It’s fairly basic, but still is solid overall. PS I would’ve preferred Kelly’s solo version, but that’s probably because of the aforementioned PTSD.
K: Reba kind of terrifies me I’m not going to lie and she also looks like the woman from BB10 who yells at Jerry. She’s talented though!! I did prefer Kelly’s part way more I think she has an amazing voice. The message behind the lyrics are definitely powerful and they harmonize very well together. I could imagine screaming these lyrics after a heartbreak it would DEFINITELY go on sad girl hours playlist. That being said I honestly do like it as much as I like Don’t Take The Money so this is really tough. The song is really pretty and is such a throwback but a GOOD one to the point where it wasn’t overplayed imo. A good choice Sister Christi.

In the previous Sing For Your Life, the spotlight had unfortunately faded on JoeFromUnderArmour in another great nail-biter of an elimination round. These rounds are really starting heating up and going “0-100 real quick,” which brings us to today's theme.
Matt and I are both big fans of rap music and it’s safe to say it’s one of our favorite genres. So for today we want you to submit any rap song of your choice. Rap is a very broad theme, but see this as an opportunity to think out of the box and submit something unique! There are so many different styles and artists out there so this should be a really interesting round! We’re both super excited to listen to what you got for this theme.
