J2999 & Absol you both unfortunately fell a little short with your car tunes and had to battle it out in the Sing For Your Life for one last chance to stay in the game. You were asked to submit songs of your personal choice to show us what you could bring to the table. I think speaking for both Matt and myself we found both submissions good but on the generic side with neither of them really standing out. Here’s more elaboration on that…
J2999 - Clarity (Zedd ft. Foxes)
M: Some classic EDM right here. Probably one of the first ones to really get big in pop music if I have the age of this right. It’s definitely a banger, and it going off at a club or rave would be awesome because everyone knows it. I enjoy Zedd and I think the voice in this really complimented his style. The song is honestly kinda sad lyrically LOL like idk if they meant it to be but it sound like a lil bit of a toxic relationship to me idk..! I will say it’s another song I’ve heard so many times so that hurts it a bit, but it’s still a good song.
K: I have a passionate hatred for this song. I don’t mind EDM music at all but this is totally not a song I’d wanna hear at a rave/club it’d take many drinks for me to start screaming the lyrics. It’s not a bad song it’s just been overplayed to death and I think anything attached with Zedd or Marshmello’s names turns me off. I do like the lyrics and how upbeat the song is but it’s definitely a throwback I avoid.
Absol - Everybody’s Mother (Kacy Hill)
M: Hmm idk. For me it felt like everything was building up to something bigger and unfortunately I don’t think that ever came. This isn’t exactly my style of music either, so maybe that plays into it. It just felt oddly generic and a little boring I guess. I think she does have talent though, her voice is very nice. Also I enjoyed the lyrics and the story the song told. Overall though, it just wasn’t really for me.
K: I’ve never heard of this artist before but I like her vibe. I feel like the song had so much potential but there were little things here and there that threw it off for me. She’s definitely talented I don’t think the issue is there but the genre/structure of the song was just a little odd to me. It’s a super chill song which I like but again something about the structure of the song or the beat is just not my cup of tea. Not a bad choice though.
