First of all, thank you for bearing with our ~4 month song contest, we apologize for being busy humans :-(. That being said let’s get to the most crucial Sing For Your Life of the contest. Being the last boot is almost as bad as being the first and it hurts to have one of you leave tonight. Natepresnell and useamint you came up a bit short in the last theme and it unfortunately landed you here. You were asked to submit any song of your choosing, as it is possibly your last. I know we’ve said this before but this was *the* hardest elimination round to judge. We loved both of your songs equally and had an incredibly difficult time picking which one was “better.” Here’s what we thought of each song...
useamint - Los Ageless (St. Vincent)
M: Oh this was a really fun song. It had its own flavour and stood out in a good way. I love how it built and each verse offered something different. The chorus also kinda slaps ngl. I think there’s a lot of layers to this song as well, like it’s talking about youth/fame/love and probably other elements I’m missing, and in a clever way. The production really stands out to me as well. The only thing I’d harp on at all is that the vocals were pretty basic but it did work for the song. Very nice pick.
K: First of all I love the aesthetics of the whole video. Her voice is so unique and I really liked it and just the whole vibe of the song overall. I can’t tell if it’s a dig at capitalism but Los Angeles seems terrifying. It kind of is a bad bitch song like I fuck with the chorus so hard even if it’s not supposed to be taken literally!! The vocals, instrumentals, everything just meshed together so well I was bopping along the whole time. This makes me wanna listen to other things she’s made because she’s clearly talented so good pick!!
Natepresnell - Let Me Know (Winona Oak)
M: Aww this was really cute. I like how this was done both lyrically and production wise, it made what could’ve been a pretty cheesy song into a cute song that I enjoyed. It was simple and gave very nice, warm vibes(?). Like I’d listen to this when I wanted to feel good ya know? I thought her vocals were really nice as well, I really like that style. Nice pick!
K: 20 seconds in I was like meh. Then the song picked up and I reallyyy started vibing with it. This song is cheesy as fuck and you know what I’m here for it. The chorus is super cute and I love how it picks up and isn’t as slow. The video is also cool the whole vibe of the song and aesthetics give off a really comforting feeling. Like Matt said, it’s just a very warm song and makes you feel happy. She's definitely talented sometimes indie people come off trying to be too edgy but this was a really good pick :-).
