New's Movie Taste: All Stars - ROUND 2

11 NewNightmare7, Apr 24, 2022

Welcome to round 2!
So this round is honestly inspired by Crimson Peak and another movie which will remain anonymous as it has not been submitted yet and I've been waiting for it since the start of the series.
The theme is MULTI-LAYERED. Its a pretty vague round but essentially I just want you to submit a movie that has more than what meets the eye. It could be a genre bending movie, one that starts with something and takes a turn or anyway you want to interpret it.
I will say that I want you to explain why you choose it and how it fits the theme however if explaining it means you have to get into spoiler territory then dont explain it. I like the element of surprise <3
Okie good luck!

New's Movie Taste - ROUND 7 (ELIMINATION)

3 NewNightmare7, Dec 13, 2021

Oh my god hello! First off what a weird ass day at work
Second, oh my god! Both these movies are phenomenal and I'm so conflicted I don't know what to do!!!!!!!
Here the critiques:
Becksta20 - Spider-Man (2002) (Composer: Danny Elfman) - Yass! This is such a great step up! I love Danny Elfman's score. It captures everything about 2000's comic book movies and its perfect. The movie itself while a little dated in style, works so well because its just well written characters and a captivating story. There is so much relatability to Peter and its conveyed very well by Tobey Maguire (even though he looks much older than a high school student). A great improvement this round!
turkeylover - Edward Scissorhands (1990) (Composer: Danny Elfman) - Wow was not expecting both to be Danny Elfman scores! I have to say though watching this, easily the biggest achievement is the score. It is so beautiful, the string arrangement in the beginning is lovely and I absolutely think it works with this movie. Honestly I really enjoyed this movie. Johnny Depp's physical acting is wonderful combined with Diane Weiss doing god knows what and Winona Ryder being amazing I can't help but not love this. The sets, the flow, it just works. A great improvement this round!
Ugh neither of you made this easy and I don't want to eliminate either of you! I adore you both so please dont hate me but I have to eliminate...
Becksta20. :( this absolutely breaks my heart because I think you are a wonderful person who was crushing this game and a frontrunner, it just sucks to be pitted against another frontrunner. Thank you so much for playing <333333
turkeylover, congrats on surviving! Is this your fall from grace? Time will tell!
And we move onto another week. This was devastating but the game continues. Stay tuned!

New's Movie Taste - ROUND 7 (RESULTS)

1 NewNightmare7, Dec 12, 2021

Welcome to the results show!
So, this round I customed it to a points system! I point one section into the score and one section into the movie itself so here are the critiques!
tbrown_47 - How to Train Your Dragon (2010) (Composer: John Powell) - Wow you must really love this score. You sent a song from this in my music game! In regards of the score I still have the same thoughts I had back then. Its really good and grand and I love the approach it took. Just not my favourite entirely. The movie itself however is amazing. I haven't watched it in probably 7 years so rewatching it I had such a great time! The animation (which I was gonna complain about cause im stupid) looks great and the emotions on Toothless work so well. The storyline itself is great. I always love having movies teach about seeing things from another perspective. Its great!
Demgirl6 - Mulan (1998) (Composer: Jerry Goldsmith) - Oh man! When I watched this originally I was zoned out and prerty much skimmed through it so im glad I get to rewatch it. First off, oh my god the score is beautiful! Jerry Goldsmith is one of my favourite composers ever because you can tell with every score comes effort and in this case, it feels respectful to Chineese culture which is great! It helps hold up the movie. The movie itself I wasn't entirely feeling at first but once Mulan's decision was made it switched and enjoyed the rest of the movie. Its really well paced and I really like the animation. The voice acting is great and the themes of honour and nobility really stick. Overall, this is a great movie and im so happy to have rewatched it.
Symmetry888 - The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) - Oh man I got to watch this for the first time last year at my theatre and it was a great experience! I had a blast watching this movie. Here I might not be having that same experience but I can't deny this is a phenomenal film. The animation, the music, the oddity it all works to such a great degree. I think this is just a yearly watch now cause I generally dont like Christmas movies aside from the odd few but this one definitely makes it. While maybe not my favourite submitted this round, I can't deny what it has done.
PennyTrationStan - Bridge to Terabithia (2007) (Composer: Aaron Zigman) - How dare you make me rewatch this movie! I had to watch it in a school assembly of all places cause thats normal. But I was excited to see this movie from an adult perspective and yeah, this movie holds up very well! AnnaSophia Robb is underrated as hell and I love her prescence. Its scene stealing for sure and ugh...its just so sad. The music also has a great fantasy quality to it that while maybe nothing entirely stands out, it plays its role in the film perfectly. I absolutely adore this movie
Becksta20 - A Beautiful Mind (2001) (Composer: James Horner) - Hmm honestly the movie didn't really do anything for me. Im not..

New's Movie Taste - ROUND 7

7 NewNightmare7, Dec 8, 2021

Hello!
This week we are gonna incorporate a different aspect to film...score!!!!!
I want you to submit a movie that you think has a beautiful score. I will be focusing heavily on the score but also the movie itself as well so make it count!
Also there are scores that are infamous and I would encourage you to stay away from those <3
Good luck and 24 hours!
