New's Movie Taste: All Stars - ROUND 2

Apr 24, 2022 by NewNightmare7
Welcome to round 2!

https://i.gifer.com/origin/f3/f3e913794af9336c697a29a5710186a8.gif

So this round is honestly inspired by Crimson Peak and another movie which will remain anonymous as it has not been submitted yet and I've been waiting for it since the start of the series.

The theme is MULTI-LAYERED. Its a pretty vague round but essentially I just want you to submit a movie that has more than what meets the eye. It could be a genre bending movie, one that starts with something and takes a turn or anyway you want to interpret it.

I will say that I want you to explain why you choose it and how it fits the theme however if explaining it means you have to get into spoiler territory then dont explain it. I like the element of surprise <3

Okie good luck!

Splice (2009) this is a sci fi horror drama that has so many turns and it is kind of disturbing. I remember how much one of my films shook things up for you last time I played and I think this film can come pretty close to it. It will definitely leave you thinking. I just started antidepressants so this film came to mind because of how the scientists are trying to mess with things they arguably shouldn’t be. “Playing God” if you will.

Omg I love Voila’s submission I don’t know many others thst have seen it

I’m submitting SAW (2004). I feel like this is a controversial series just for having as many entries as it does, but the original I felt laid out the perfect groundwork for movies that have several layers. I feel like many films now take inspiration from the way saw has twists and turns that come to fruition from seeds that get planted early on. Def picking Saw!

howls moving castle - i think this movie is multilayered bc the plot operates in subtle ways that make sense further into the story, so understanding every little detail would almost require a rewatch! basically the beginning is much different after seeing the ending.

I will submit The People Under the Stairs (1991). On the surface it may look like just another slasher type horror film, but it has something important to say about racial inequality and classism and is very meaningful. It really gets its point across and entertains the viewer while doing it.

fight club (1999)! not really sure how to explain without going into spoiler territory but like... there are layers. there are layers.

In Time (2011) time is currency the layers of what happens reminds me of my favorite show The Wire

detention (2011) is a sci-fi horror comedy that’s batshit insane !! think along the lines of nowhere (1997) meets scary movie !

Big Trouble In Little China (1986)

So this is a guilty pleasure film that I have been waiting to submit for a while. This film was not what I expected it to be and then I watched it and I LOVED IT! It's a mix of genres and I just love this film.

Im honestly gonna take a risk here and post a movie that I have not seen. I couldn't think of a film that fit this theme well, that I have seen before. Just too many movies to remember so I kind of spent most the day reading up on different movies and this one seemed interesting and hopefully fits the theme well

Cloud Atlas (2012)

kind of a BORING pick but there aren't any other movies i've seen/appreciate as much as this one that i'd bother sending?

anyways,

u can't get more multi-layered and multi-faceted than EYES WIDE SHUT (1999) baby, a movie which is very open to interpretation... i can't rly go into DETAILS u know but it is more layered than a 50ft birthday cake mhm!

Shutter Island (2010) directed by: Martin Scorsese

I think this one is a good fit for the twists and turns that happen
