So if anything, this theme just showed that 2021 had some damn good music. I liked most of the submissions, so if your song is in the lower 3rd, don't think that I hated it. Typically, I like to give comments for each song...but with 44 songs

#txashaun: Leave the Door Open - This is one of, if not my favorite Silk Sonic songs. It’s just full of so much soul. Bruno and Anderson really complement each other well.
#computer3000: Introvert - I know you joked about being cruel by submitting a 6 minute song, but I love this song. When I saw you post it, it was kind of hard biting my tongue and not letting you know how much I enjoy it. I genuinely love everything about this song: the lyrics, her flow, the instrumentation and arrangement. Like I truly believe this is art personified.
#Thnksfrthmmrs : Monsters - Honestly, you shouldn’t be at the bottom based on this song because I did enjoy it overall. I’m generally one for themes being open to interpretation, but this round had pretty specific criteria. Unfortunately, this version with Demi was released at the end of 2020. I’m sorry man =(
#StraightLoonie: Be Sweet - This is a definite bop. From the get go, the bass really pops off and doesn’t let up. All the elements of the song really work together. Thanks for introducing me to this bop.
#Voila: GOOD PUSS - So I respect you submitting a song that fits your taste because that’s what this game is all about. But FromAWindow was not joking when he said I don’t like this song. The beat is just ok, and her voice is annoying. The last 30 seconds are the best part of the song because at least something interesting starts to happen with the track. I get why people like this song, but it just isn’t my vibe.
#Maxi123: Rockland - So at first, I wasn’t really feeling this song. It just felt disjointed and the pacing of the melody was super weird. But the second half of the song was a lot better because it flowed much better. I loved her voice, but it really was the strange pacing in the beginning that killed it for me.

A phenomenal round and im very crushed to have to eliminate someone...never the less, it has to be done :(
The following people are SAFE:
tyleror - Hush (2016) (Home Invasion) - Mike Flannagan is my favourite horror director in modern cinema because the man just gets it. He always has an impecable vision that works and it is no different here. Hush is harsh, tense and so well contained. I truly believe that dude is straight up psychotic and he thrives off it. Its terrifying and I can't even imagine how it would feel to be deaf and also in this situation. I love home invasion movies because they have a great sense of realism to it. With every Mike Flannagan movie, its shot well, acted well and has good scares so nice job.
Jaxon - Lights Out (2016) (Paranormal) - What a cool concept! This movie surprised me with how much it really focused on the characters. I was more invested i their dynamic than I was in the scares, which were really well done as well. The whole blacklight finale was super tense and I really enjoyed it. I also really liked how the boyfriend character wasn't the stereotypical douchebag, he genuinely cared and that is alot of respect. Paranormal stuff normally isn't my go to genre but this is a stand out!
nateclove - Suspiria (1977) (Gialo) - I'm actually very disappointed in myself because I haven't seen this movie before the competition despite it being on my watchlist for like 8 years. That wait was worth it though as this movie is stellar. I have no clue if I watched the movie correctly or not as it was in english and I googled my heart out to figure this out (I know it was dubbed) and the dubbing is done really well for the most part. The movie also looks outstanding. The use of colour (which is always a common praise I see) really pops out which I love. The cinematography also arguably outdoes every other movie submitted this round which says alot as 70's movies don't tend to look amazing. The gore is great particularily in the opening that had my mouth drop. There is so much to appreciate here and while it might not be my favourite of this round, it warrants all the praise it gets. It is truly a classic
Symmetry888 - Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) (Sci-Fi) - Oh this movie was creepy! The visuals were fucking bizarre! The pods coming out of the plant thing was so fucked! This movie was very enjoyable. I really liked the cast and the performances and of course, the weird shit in it. The end (while I did know it) was still creepy as hell, especially with the way Donald Sutherland looks. Ew. Anyways, this movie is a classic and really well done. I think in modern standings it has a but of pacing iasues but I can overlook it as that is a common thing of older films. It doesn't bother me.

I liked the Halloween feel of this song! I will have to say that the difficulty of this song is what let me down. Like the harmonies and the way the songs were set up felt rigid, but never the less they were still very beautiful. My favorite section has to be the slower more overture like section. I will say that this piece did a very good job in having contrasting sections and having a nice flow to it. The ending to me felt underwhelming. Overall, I enjoyed listening to it, however the lack of difficulty was what brought most of these comments.

I love the opening phrases, it really played into the march style of the presented piece. The simple yet difficult melody is one of my favorite musical tropes. Its not trying to sound difficult, but it actually is. The layered harmonies in the moving lines and the staccato sections really drive that home. I was starting to think this was getting repetitive but then after ending the original beginning phrase, it brought us into a new fresh one. And the after that a chromatic filled cadence with the brass and high woodwinds ended the song with a nice traditional march feeling. I absolutely loved it! The only thing I will say is I was expecting more of a tone shift at places. Overall, GREAT JOB!

The very beginning brought me to the theme of the song. The high trumpet and low brass lines with the flute and clarinet giving us these small run sections, absolutely divine! The contrast in the first two sections with the transitions of brass to woodwind are very prominent. The new section after this adds a nice flowing section that the song needed to really sell the theme. I do think its a bit repetitive, but its beautiful nonetheless. Im a little disappointed by the ending and lead up to it. It was the same thing, but they added an eighth or quarter note at the end. But like that didn't really make me satisfied after hearing it. Overall, this song had me vibing, I loved all the parts of it. The only thing I can really say is that it was kinda repetitive.

THIS PIECE!!!!!!! Its literally one of my favorite pieces to play. I am a clarinet player and love it when pieces make woodwind part specifically designed to be more difficult. This was one of those ones. The flute solo is breathtaking! The section when the band comes in has this nice Arabian feel and the percussion absolutely drives that home. Im a sucker for clarinet high notes, and this piece is jammed pack full of them! THE PERCUSSION BREAK AND THE LOW BRASS! AHHHHHHHHHHHH! I dont think this piece is very repetitive because it uses the same melody in different ways to accentuate the different sections of the band. The little bridge moment is so fitting to adding contrast. The lead up into the end gave me so much tension, I was waiting, and waiting, and waiting and then it disappeared.... Then almost..
