Tim's Music Gauntlet: Episode 2 (RESULTS)

Dec 7, 2020 by tbrown_47
Thank you all for your submissions. This is a very important episode because by the end of this post, we will find out which contestants will be facing elimination in the first gauntlet battle.

Heavenlee: Everything I Wanted - Billie Eilish
I have immense respect for artists that have a unique style and aren’t afraid to showcase it, and Billie definitely fits that mold. I do find her singing to be a bit dry, but I thought the backing track was cool and supported her well.

FromAWindow: Midnight Sky - Miley Cyrus
I don’t think I’ve listened to Miley since Bangerz. This song was a pleasant surprise. I really liked the disco beat and the Blondie Debbie Harry vibes Miley was serving in this song.

Zach3051: Thank U, Next - Ariana Grande
To be honest, I think this song is pretty boring. I feel like after the first chorus, I experienced all the song has to offer. I’m not the biggest Ariana fan, but the girl can sing. I would’ve loved to hear a song that showcases her talent a bit better.

Kingjames13: Demons - Merkules
I appreciate you sharing what this song means to you. I think there are lyrics in this song that everyone can relate to. Musically, I do think it was a bit one-dimensional.

Becksta20: Piano Man - Billy Joel
This song is a classic. I’m not as high on this song as most people, and I think Billy Joel has better songs. But this is a song that’s hard to dislike, and that harmonica kills in this song.

Rubes: Lose You to Love Me - Selena Gomez
You definitely put yourself back into the mix with this song. This was great. This song took me on such a journey and there were so many elements that really worked together. Well done.

Stuartlittle16: Always Be My Baby - Mariah Carey
Find me a person who doesn’t like this song. 90s Mariah is phenomenal and such a joy to listen to. This was a pretty safe choice, but I’ll sing along to this song any day of the week.

GrrrImABear: It’s Oh So Quiet - Bjork
I don’t think I’ve ever listened to Bjork, but talk about an adventure! This song was anything but boring. My inner band geek was in love with that band and how dynamic the song was. However, I enjoyed the backing band much more than I enjoyed Bjork’s vocals. You took a risk with this song, and I respect it.

NewNightmare7: Ms. Jackson - Outkast
Another great submission. I love Andre 3000, and I think he and Big Boi complement each other extremely well. This is easily one of my favorite songs from Outkast.

Christian_: Try Everything - Shakira
This song was cute, but I wasn’t into it. To me, this was a bubblegum pop song that didn’t give me many reasons to keep listening to it. Similar to some other submissions, I would’ve liked a song that showcased Shakira’s talents a little better.

ILoveLarry: Truth Hurts - Lizzo
Lizzo is a true queen. For feedback, I leave you with this iconic gif.

Cheritaisdelicious: You Remind Me of Home - Ben Gibbard
This song was nice. I’m not sure when this was released, but it takes me right back to the mid 2000s. I also loved how the little key changes toward the end; it added a nice dimension to the song.

Crazybone5000: Shower - Becky G
This song is adorable...and kind of a bop. It has a nice little beat. I can easily see this song becoming one of my guilty pleasures.

Ouijake: Work It - Missy Elliott
First, let’s take a moment to appreciate Alyson Stoner. With that out of the way, I love how unique Missy is and what she brings to the music world. The hook is iconic, and this song just makes me want to get up and work it on the dance floor.

Like last round, each song will be scored on a scale of 1-10 based on my personal tastes. But first, it was so nice learning even just a small bit about each of you that I would like to return the favor. Here are a couple songs I enjoy that fit both categories. I was born in 1995 and share the same birthday as a true queen - March 28.
