RMG III Challenge II [Results]

Jul 8, 2023 by reallyreally
This challenge I presented you with three countries and you had to choose a song by an artist from one of them. I listened to, then reviewed your submissions and was largely impressed by what I heard! However, one of you will be eliminated today in order for us to get one step closer in determining the winner.

The results will be presented in the form of three battle rounds as all three submissions from each country will face off. The best song of each battle round will have a chance at winning this challenge, while the loser will be at risk of elimination.

Team Canada Battle

“In My Feelings” vs “Belinda Says” vs “she’s all i wanna be”

“In My Feelings” MisterPotato111 - This song made me a bit nostalgic since it was super big a few summers ago. I liked that throwback, but I wouldn’t go back to listen to it because I found a lot of the production and backup vocals to be annoying. You would have benefitted from a less obvious song choice.

“Belinda Says” mathboy9 - I appreciated the dream-pop-like production that makes you feel as if you’re in a movie. Most of the lyrics went right over my head the first time listening, but after hearing the song a couple more times I can follow them better. The song’s so short that I could easily listen to it on repeat.

“She’s all i wanna be” Tswiftlover13 - Although, I’ve heard this song quite a few times before I still enjoyed it. I like the 80’s pop rock production and find the lyrics relatable because of the theme of jealousy. My critique would be her voice, I know some people love it because of how unique it is but I’m more indifferent about it.

[BATTLE RESULTS]
The winner of this battle round is..... mathboy9 with Belinda Says! I like that you chose a unique song by a band I've never heard of before. I liked following the story told by the lyrics as well as the indie rock production. Unfortunately, the loser of this battle round is MisterPotato111, with tswiftlover13 moving on the next round.

Team Australia Battle

"Cheap Thrills" vs "This City" vs Harold"

“Cheap Thrills” cococolin122 - I remember having this song on repeat when it first came out but now I don’t find it interesting, probably cause I’ve already heard it so many times. I did pay more attention to the production and think some of the production choices were cool. Also, I think the song has a nice message.

“This City” 3pi14159 - I would give this song a few more listens outside of this contest. My favorite part of the song would obviously have to be his voice, it’s so rich and soulful. My criticism revolves around the lyrics, because I wish he expanded more on the verses instead of just repeating the hook.

“Herald” FromAWindow - This song is so strangely beautiful, even though some of the instrumental sound effects made me a bit uncomfortable I was still able to appreciate them. My favorite part has to be the bridge because everything accelerates and that is what secured the win for this song.

[BATTLE RESULTS]
As mentioned the winner of this battle round is FromAWindow with “Herald”. The loser is “Cheap Thrills”, submitted by cococolin122.

U.K. Battle Round

"Dance The Night" vs "As It Was" vs "Nowhere Fast"

“Dance The Night” - IDK this just sounds like all of her other music to me, I don’t see myself remembering this an hour from now. I’d love to hear a slow song or a ballad from her because I’m getting tired of this disco pop thing.

“Nowhere Fast” - This song perfectly describes what depression is like, as he mentions how emotionally numb he is. He can’t remember the last time he’s felt something and wouldn’t care if he was living or dying. I haven't heard much from The Smiths before so it was cool to hear something else by them

“As It Was” - Although this song was a big hit, this was actually my first time listening to it all the way through. I’m glad I finally got the chance to listen to this because it’s simple yet beautiful. From his voice, to the production, this was incredibly soothing to listen to. My favorite part of the song was him mentioning his phone call from his mother because I found that interesting.

[BATTLE RESULTS]

This battle was a two horse race between “As It Was” and “Nowhere Fast”. Since I found “Nowhere Fast” more lyrically interesting, I will be giving this battle round win to Xyris. The loser of this battle round would have to be niceboy_ed with “Dance The Night”

[TOP 3]
As mentioned, my top three for this challenge are Xyris, mathboy9 and FromAWindow. After listening to all of your submissions back-to-back I’ve decided I like “Nowhere Fast” the best, meaning the winner of this challenge is Xyris. Congratulations on your first challenge win! All three of you are moving on the next round.

[SAFE]
Also moving onto my next round are Cullenhi, tswiftlover13 and 3pi14159.

[BOTTOM 3]
My bottom three this round is: MisterPotato111, niceboy_ed, cococolin122. MisterPotato111, since you did so well last round, I know you have potential so you will be moving on to the top eight. After listening to “Cheap Thrills” and “Dance the Night” again, I prefer “Dance The Night” because I haven't heard it as much so it sounds fresher to me. This unfortunately means that it will be the end of the competition for cococolin122. Thank you for joining in on my contest, it was great having you!

The third challenge will be posted momentarily so stay tuned!!
