Bridges are oftentimes my favorite parts of songs so I decided to center this second challenge around them. Thank you to everybody for submitting an entry and sticking through a round that might've been confusing for some of you. Here are my reviews for your submissions:
coolkat ‘Since U Been Gone’ - Great choice, the bridge switched up the song and was necessary in this case to make things more interesting. My only critique is that I’ve heard this song so many times before so I’m not getting that magical feeling of hearing an amazing song for the first time [8]
Tommy123 ‘Greedy’ - I have mixed opinions on this song’s production, on one hand I like the retro big band sound but it also verges on sounding like a track from a Target commercial. The lyrics got very repetitive towards the end with her repeating how she’s greedy for love. Lastly, there was a bridge that changed things up but I wouldn’t say it was either as good or better than the rest of the song. I think this song would’ve worked better if it was shorter and had more variety in its lyrics. [7]
Mackey ‘Cruel Summer’ - You definitely understood the challenge, because the bridge of this song was very memorable. I can’t listen to it without thinking of “Deja vu” by Olivia Rodrigo because of how similar those screamy parts sound. However, Deja Vu came out afterwards so it’s not the fault of this song. Another favorite part of this track is the production that makes you feel like you’re in a movie while listening to it. My biggest critique would be the lyrics sounding juvenile or lazy at times. For example, when she rhymed “boy” with “toy” or the “but ooh, woah-oh” line. Lines like that are my pet peeve because I wish she found a better way to describe how she was feeling in the moment. [8]
oswordo3 ‘Lost the Breakup’ - This was a perfect choice for the challenge, the bridge progressed the story while changing up the song enough to make it more entertaining. There were even two parts of the bridge, as the melody slows down in the latter half. This track was strong in all aspects and I like that it’s not super well-known. [8.5]
Carriexoxo24xo ‘Bad Romance’ - I got into this during the first couple of verses but didn’t care for it as much during the rest of the song. The chorus was too repetitive and lyrically simplistic for me, plus I heard it constantly on the radio growing up so I think I’m still tired of it. This song doesn’t work for the challenge for me, because I was drawn to the verses instead of the bridge. [7.5]
Jre777 ‘Like a G6’ - I felt a similar way about this song that I did about ‘Bad Romance’, I enjoyed listening to the verses but lost interest during the chorus. In this case the chorus started to get on my nerves with how repetitive it was. Additionally, there was a clear bridge but I wouldn’t call it incredible since it was fairly simplistic. [7]
Cullenhi ‘Oops!...I Did It Again’ - Whoever came up with that bridge was definitely in a silly and goofy mood that day. I think it fits well because it shows that the song’s not supposed to be taken too seriously. It also represents the effect she has on the men around her since this character risked his life to get a necklace for her. Overall, this track was lots of fun but I’m not rushing back to listen to it again. [7.5]
Kindred7 ‘True Colors’ - This was similar to another submission, “Lost the Breakup”, however this track didn’t stand out as much for me. It was catchy but overall came across as too generic. I think she should’ve leaned more into the rock sound, especially because there was a band behind her in the music video. [7]
Maxi1234 ‘Take Yourself Home’ - At parts this reminded me of a Drake song while other parts it made me think of Shawn Mendes. I had a hard time getting into this song because of how mellow it was. It didn’t get on my nerves like some other songs but I wouldn’t be excited about hearing this again. I’m not sure if that house-inspired outro part would count as a bridge but I’ll count it as one to help you out. I like that he took a risk since it came out of nowhere but I'm also not a big fan of house music. [7]
Thnksfrthmmrs ‘Starlight’ - I didn’t think I’d heard this song before, but about twenty seconds in I realized that I had. This song has such a cool sound to it and I could listen to this on repeat. My biggest criticism is with the bridge and that it doesn’t stand out as much compared to the rest of the song [7.5]
humanwebjet1 ‘Now (Acoustic)’ - I have mixed feelings about this song. I liked the lyrics but the production nearly ruins the track for me. Reverb is a big pet peeve of mine in modern music, I don’t understand the appeal to it. That high-pitched voice they added in was so out of place. I wish this was truly acoustic like the title states. Also, It reminds me of “Be Alright” by Dean Lewis. [7.5]

The top three for me this round are: oswordo3 , coolKat and Mackey. coolKat this is your second time in a row at the top which is impressive, however your choice was not strong enough to give you the win this time. You are safe. Although all three of these songs were great, it is clear to me that the winner of this round is oswordo3 ! Congratulations, I really enjoyed your song choice and am excited to hear more from you. Mackey your song choice was solid this week as well, however it didn’t blow me away as much. You are safe and will continue on in this competition.

Unfortunately, between the two of you that are left I will be choosing to eliminate Tommy123. I was unable to connect with either of your song choices you have submitted but I hope to see you back in a future season. There's always a possibility of you redeeming yourself, as everybody loves an underdog.
