The moderation team has discussed the events that have occurred on the blogs page tonight and have decided how to proceed. For those who may be unaware, blogs were being posted with the word "paki" which caused a discussion on whether the word constitutes a racial slur. My understanding was there was division on the offensive nature of the word, but our stance going forward will be to remove blogs that have the word while we develop a more refined position. In terms of whether it will be banned in the future, consultation will occur with the Tengaged Advisory Council and members of the community who would be targeted by the word to discuss how to proceed. Bans would not be handed out retroactively. We will provide further updates if necessary.
As always, if you have concerns, feel free to reach out to myself, koolness234 or CheapCheep.
you're all doing AMAZING at being mods but honestly slurs like that should 100% be banned its on the same line as the n word for me personally. DISGUSTNG!
Now... Non Binary homophobia should be just as important as this subject. Brandonpinzukoolness234CheapCheep there should be no hate at all on this site but there is and that's what y'all are here to do is to try and put a stop to it. I just wish you three felt as strong about ALL the hate being spread on this website and not just pick and choose what you want to stand behind and what y'all want to let slide. โ
Being non white I've experienced countless times where I've been called different racial slurs and told to go back to my country when in fact I'm a US citizen. I've also been jumped by multiple ppl at once for being super feminine growing up which resulted in me being half deaf now.
Racial attacks & hate crimes should get the SAME consequences on this website! Let's not let ppl get away with this anymore just because of their high color level and status on this website.
If ppl won't get reprimanded for such actions they will continue to spread their hate. ๐๐๐โ
koolness234 - I recommend reaching out to yoshitomi who is a member of British Pakistani community. She will be able to give you great advice on the use of the word. Feel free to message me if you're interested in speaking to her.
