I wanted to blog to see if there was any interest in the hosting of a variation of the previously known "Race to Black" event. I've put Race to Gold in the title as that seems like an appropriate jump, but I'm open to ideas.
The rules are simple. Anyone looking to participate in the Race will make a new account (when directed by moderation) and the first person to a determined color level/karma amount, wins the event (likely Gold to account for the increase in game payouts). Potential prizes may also be given to runner-up(s).
Rules would be fully ironed out later on this month (IF THERE IS ENOUGH INTEREST), but before going through with the planning, we wanted to see if there would be enough interest in the event overall.
Thoughts?
EDIT: Read my comments on this blog and give feedback as time goes on, if you'd like to see specific rules in play!
That is something that would need to be ironed out. I personally was not a fan of the old requirement of having people logged out on their previous accounts because it disqualified people unnecessarily. Although these are solely my thoughts and I haven't run them by anyone, I think it makes it more appealing if we allow people to remain online on their main accounts, but restrict them from playing with their Race accounts. But details would need to be ironed out and it could be needed that they log out. cheritaisdelicious
I touched on that in my comment a bit above, NanoNerd, but if this event were to happen, those details would be outlined. Mostly interested in whether or not there would be a preference on that front, too
Only if the rules were similar to the old version, where people cannot log into their main account, people could keep their new identities a secret until a winner is announced - at the end of the game, you can decide to keep your new account and ban your old one, or just stay on your original and ban the race account.
I personally would prefer if people stayed off their original accounts, as that could influence the outcome, especially if people start basically alligning with their normal friends
One of the best parts competing in Race to Black was that nobody knew that I was me, so I was able to work with those whom I normally wouldn't get along with, or go against friends, and it was a really fun dynamic that would be lost if people could just stay logged in. It would take the fun out.
We've been discussing this now BlueBarracuda. I see two options:
Option 1: The original rules. Players cannot log onto their original account and doing so will cause them to be disqualified. Identities can be kept secret, but it is up to the users themselves if they disclose.
Option 2: Players may remain LOGGED IN on their original account, but CANNOT play games (it may entice more people, for whatever reason). If they are currently on a Survivor streak, they are able to maintain their streak on their original accounts but their Race account is unable to play Survivor at all. Any violation of the rules will result in a DQ.
My only reason for option 2 is because it allows for less of the disqualifications that occurred because people accidentally logged on their original accounts. That happened often to people who were doing well in the race, and because rules were rules, they were disqualified.
The purpose of this blog is to get ideas/feedback though, so happy to hear more thoughts on this
brandonpinzu That makes perfect sense for people in a merge streak and the stipulation about not joining seems fair. I can't recall if I selfishly enjoyed when my competitors accidentally logged back in (like if they went on their phone instead), so I could advance, but yeah, with people using different devices more often than they probably did back then, that would at least avoid that issue and would be fair....and with option 2, that could help keep identities a secret better in some ways, since if certain users went MIA cold turkey, I'd be suspicious and assume they were racing.
And girlinred makes another great point for option two for those hosting ongoing group games/blog series. and those who are enrolled in stars when the game starts.
I also feel there should be some type of stipulation that star tickets can't be used on racing accounts
Would be fun. I agree with other comments, think we shouldn’t be allowed on our main account but I’d be down to play regardless what the rules are!
This is absolutely sick and about a year too late for me to be interested in participating.
With that being said, in the purely hypothetical case where I'm interested and already picked out my RTB-now-G username, option 2 is so lame to me. I feel like at the very LEAST you should have to completely give up playing games on your main account if you wanna play. Like if your streak is more important than playing race to gold, that's tough, but I don't really get why you would want, or need, to have both.
Even if you make the stipulation where your RTB-now-G account can't join survivor, which is objectively the right call because you could very easily game the absolute shit out of it, why even play? Doesn't that like make no sense and make joining RTB-now-G a waste of time anyways because you miss out on probably the quickest and most consistent form of karma?
Ignoring like the REAL reasoning though, like whoever genuinely wants to play tengaged games on multiple accounts in 2022 needs some sort of psychosocial evaluation. I can barely see the argument for playing games consistently on ONE account at this point. If anyone actually wants to play survivor AND seriously push for a RTB-now-G win, you need to be sent to a farm very very far away to frolic and play forevermore.
Please continue listening to ABSOLBOT (me) when it comes to moderation decisions I have a nasty streak of being convincingly correct, and I'm still not really over the grudge that was formed over me missing the Social Media Manager position at the start of this year. Huge shoutout to HeavyRain and boyfriend though they're doing great stuff over there on the tengagedsocial twitter. Excited for the 1-year anniversary of not shit being posted.
Absol I agree with everything you said except one. Users should be allowed to join Survivor. When this was first done in 2011, the winner Emmaleigh aka Ahava did it by playing every game, including Survivor.
With that being said, users should absolutely not be allowed to be on their main account. If their Survivor streak is more important to them, great! Don't join Race to Gold.
I’d raise an entirely different question and ask if buying T$ would be allowed. Getting the karma isn’t an issue with the new payouts, but in my opinion, holding onto your T$ and getting enough would make the challenge last longer. It’s also unfair to those who don’t have the ability to afford buying T$. I think the entire race should be as “natural” as possible.
Personally, I don’t care if you want to stay logged in on your other account, and agree with the opinion that only one of the accounts can be in Survivor.
chameleoneyes oh no i agree with you i was just like being really holistic and trying to explain why the whole "if you are in a survivor on your main you couldn't play survivor on your rtb-now-g account" thing made no sense. like considering emmaleigh HAD to play survivor to win i don't get why someone would wanna play rtb-now-g if they are forgoing playing survivor altogether JUST to keep their merge streak
