Now this may shock or trigger some of you that Sam is this high on the list, and quite frankly, I don’t care. Sam is such a good character, very well thought out, independant, and resourceful, as long as you hit those quick time events. My love for Sam started in literally the first scene, where she attempted to warn Hannah about the prank, she knew Hannah wouldn’t take it well and attempted to stop the prank.
Unfortunately we don’t get a lot of set up and relationship building in the beginning of the game with Sam, and very little of her relationships matter. What we do get though, is a success that is very dependant on clue finding, which is interesting. On multiple occasions, Sam is able to find clues that determine a successful run. Most notably, the baseball bat in the basement, which can be used to smash the psycho upside the head if he catches you in the basement, and allows you access to Josh’s lair (As long as Chris was a decent human being and refrained from shooting the damn squirrel), revealing who the psycho is before the Ashley / Chris ordeal. Secondly, Hannah’s diary down in the mines, if not found, Josh is crushed to death by Hannah, but if you do find it, Josh is spared, and his hunger drives him to the same journey Hannah went through.
During the latter half of the game, Sam focussed on staying calm, relieving other people’s stress, and making it out alive. Comforting anyone who seemed to be in distress, starting with Mike, asking about Jessica’s whereabouts when they meet up in Josh’s lair. Continuing with Emily when she makes it back to the lodge after being chased down by a wendigo in the mines. If you found the diary, she warns Josh about Hannah being one of the wendigo, allowing him to be spared, before she takes the fast track back to the lodge with her rock climbing skills. I was extremely impressed with her & Mike’s ability to come up with a plan to escape Hannah in the lodge nonverbally. Showing an insane level of critical thinking skills, once again.
She was a pretty serious character, but she’s got some cute quotes;
“Oh. Well, I’m more of a Ping-Pong Gal”
“For Pete’s sake. My clothes? Really? Whichever one of you did this is off my Christmas list. Seriously.”
“Well actually the towel didn’t turn out to be the best outfit for fighting off killer maniacs, you know?”
“HEY. FATTY. OVER HERE!”
“Jeez. You look like hell.”

Fun fact, she and Mike are only allowed to die in the final chapter if you fail the don't move segments during the final showdown in the lodge between the pair of them and the wendigos.
She was in the bath or roaming the house confused the whole time
