New Game: STARS Dream Team Dec 24, 2008
imageHello to all!
For a few months now, I have been wanting to create a group game and I finally have come up with a new type of game, which I hope will appeal to the community as a whole, not rely too much on regular participation, and be a bit engaging.
-------
It is pretty much based on the structure of any fantasy league (mostly used in sports), where you pick the players you think will perform the best, and you are awarded/deducted points, based on how your "DREAM TEAM" performs.
------
As a quick explination, contestants will pick 3 STARS castmates out of the 16, to make a "DREAM TEAM".  Points are awarded/deducted based on nominations, evictions, and special bonuses.  Enrollment begins today.  It will be on a first come basis and capped at 20 contestants. Please 'register' in the appropriate forum topic.
---------------------
The game will begin and DREAM TEAMS will be picked when the STARS 7 cast has been decided.  For more information and to enroll, please visit the link below!

The Grand Picnic Nov 21, 2008
imageI would like to highlight this group game that ends in the next couple days and publically congratulate Salad Fingers for creating a game as unique as his personality.  What is so standout about this game is that every challenge was infused with SaladFingers personality and focused on social graces, manners, and confections.
--------------------------
Auditions:
We had to explian why we should be invited to The Grand Picnic:  "I always place my napkin on my lap when I eat, avoid unpleasant topics that are best left for when mixed company is not present, and I butter my bread right-side up."
I thought this was clever instead of asking why should I pick you and getting the typical "I am nice" or "I will do anything to win" responses.
--------------------------
Poems:
Poetry was a big part of this competition.  I felt this was something a bit different, because it takes a bit of thought to come up with something.  I really forced me to be creative.
..........................
My haiku about chocolate covered cherries (my fav confection):
A chocolate mound
A catacomb for cherries
What delights abound?
...........................
And my poem about The Grand Picnic:
The Grand Picnic, by Grayson10001
----
Upon the lawn, down by the banks
Assemble a mangerie of delights
Friends gather with laughs and jests
as The Grand Picnic begins.
----
Meet a friend, turn a foe
Tales of love and tales of woe
The sun starts to rest its weary head
as The Grand Picnic comes to a close.
----
Wayward to home I can't help but reflect
how we smiled so much, but frown at the departure
how we brought so much, but now it is gone and over
as The Grand Picnic becomes a memory.
----
Lest life not be a picnic, too grand to depart?
Setting our place, having our fill of loves and strifes
Until we are worn from our day's folly and return home
as The Grand Picnic reminds us how truly grand life has been.
-----------------------------------------
Manners:
Several competitions focused on manners.  One competition we had to tell an instance when we were well mannered.  My story was painful to tell, but I feel this was a turning point in the game for me, because I opened up my heart and let everyone in:
All through my years growing up, there was this guy who would tease me.  This went on through elementary school, middle school, and even high school!  I decided to run for class president my senior year and when giving a speech in front of the whole school, he threw food at me and everyone pointed and laughed.  I thought about making a public scene about the whole mess, but I decided to take the higher road.  I finished my speech with a simple thank you and walked off.
Later that week I invited the guy over to my house, so we could talk and I could finally get to the bottom of why he was so mean to me.  I had baked him a lovely pie, hoping to win him over with something sweet.  He finally arrived, sat down, ate his pie, and began to discuss.
Well, he was very rude.  He said I was a nerd, I was ugly, had no friends and so on.  It took everything I had, not to haul off and punch him.  One would expect me to be very unpleasant with this young man, but I was not.  All I did was inform him that earlier that day, I had killed his parents, chopped them up, and put their diced remains into a pie.  I smiled and politely asked, "Would you care for another slice?"
--------------------------------
My favorite twist was deciding the final two.  The three of us had to pick two people to be in the finals.  The twist was that the most selfless person earned them a spot, which was IrinIcon. :)
I was fortunate to make a new friend through the process too, Xrated.
---------------------------------
Over all, I want to thank SaladFingers for a great game that urged players to be polite and conciderate of others.  Sometimes competition can bring out the worst in us, so this was a good exercise in respecting your fellow man.
SaladFingers....there is a rumor you are leaving Tengaged.  I hope this isn't true, because you will be greatly missed.

Think Outside the Box! Nov 6, 2008
imageIf you could see past the frames of your avatar's light blue box, what would your avatar be doing?  What kind of fashion statement is your avatar making from the waist down?  What activities does your avatar like to do?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
If you would like to join me in thinking 'Outside the Box', I would love to see your pictures as well!  The easiest way to get your pics to me would be by posting in my group:  The Greek Forum!
http://www.tengaged.com/group/1059
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Once I have all submissions, I would like to make a giant picture with all those who participated (please keep it PG!) and place it here on this blog.  I look forward to seeing you get creative!

Are you up to PAR with your fellow Tengagers? Oct 9, 2008
imagePAR is an acronym for Player’s Average Ranking.  It is determined by taking the sum of all individual game rankings and dividing by the total number of games played.  For example, if a member has played 4 games and his rankings are 2, 7, 4, 5, the player’s average ranking would be 18/4 or 4.500.  PARs are rounded to the nearest thousandth.
This is one of the big features of my Greek system (fraternity and sorority) I am introducing to Tengaged.  If you would like to read more about it, please visit my group THE GREEK FORUM to get more info.  <I would post it on here, but it is too much info for a blog>

Something I like about PAR is that it is constantly changing.  It all depends on your individual performance.  So try it out and see if you are on PAR with those in your game, the Top 20, your friends...or even your arch nemesi!

Tengaged to go Greek? Oct 2, 2008
imageAn idea came to me about the group function and I want to put it out there to the tengaged community and see what the response is.  I would appreciate any and all feed back either as a post on here or mail message.

I think implementing a Greek system could be a great idea for the Tengaged community.  Fraternities and Sororities have been around for quite some time at the university level and I think it might be a nice idea for Tengaged, too.  Here are some of my thoughts:

1)  There could be charters or mission statements for each sorority/fraternity so you know what kind of group you are getting into.  Often each is known by the kind of reputation they have around campus.  Likewise, I'm sure each would get a reputation here on Tengaged.

2)  I feel there already exist some tight bonds between a few guys or a few girls.   And after reading some blogs, it looks like the female population of Tengaged desires some means of coming together.

3)  It could increase Rookie/Casting relationships.  Rookies could act as mentors to those in casting and if a casting person has a group of friends they can turn to, there is a greater chance they will stay with Tengaged.

4)  Depending if this is a popular system, when enough fraternities and sororities are cultivated, we could create intermurals.  Usually these are sports activities and the different group compete, but we could come up with some ranking system based on how members of your frat/sorority place in games, so you can have bragging rites or something along those lines.

5)  We could have 'mixers' where one fraternity and one sorority get together for a game.  It would make the greek system stronger and improve bonds across gender lines.

6)  Each organization could elect their leaders by term (whatever they decide), so everyone has a chance to lead or even leave and join a new fraternity/sorority if they wish.

Some items I have not totally figured out in my head are:

1)  Is this going to be more devisive, rather than a system that brings people together?

2)  In the greek system you can only belong to one greek organization.  Would that work here on Tengaged?

3) Would there be a rush or hazing of new people into the frat/sorority?

4) Would there be a limit on the number of people in each organization?

5) Does Tengaged even need a system like this?  Are the groups already functioning in this manner?

6)  Should they be open groups?  Closed groups?  Open and then closed?

Again, thanks for any feedback you may have!

The Tengaged Family Tree Sep 24, 2008
imageThis topic came up in my current game and I think it is a fun one!  What Tengaged generation do you belong to?  'Generations' are determined by what month you joined Tengaged:

1st Generation:  May 2008 or before
2nd Generation:  June 2008
3rd Generation:  July 2008
4th Generation:  August 2008
5th Generation:  September 2008
6th Generation:  starts in just a few days with October 2008

It might be fun to chat with castmates and find out answers to some of these questions:
* Who else is in your generation branch of the Tengaged family tree?
* Has anyone in your game played in a game where someone from the 1st generation was present?
*Who is the 'oldest' and 'youngest' player in your game?

Hint:  You can determine your generation and when you first joined by looking at your history and finding the ending date of your first game!  Subtract 7 and that is the date you were born into the Tengaged world!
