Last round after a very close sudden death battle, we said see you later, not goodbye to FromAWindow as he is eligible for the battle back round.
For today’s theme you’ll be tackling another duality - SUBMISSION & REBELLION!
Submissive songs can relate to anything dealing with passiveness, conformity, obedience, conceding, peacemaking, sexual submission, introversion, or any other way you might interpret this.
Rebellion is rebelling against authority or another person…in any way really.
We are very excited to see what you guys come up with for this round.
Please ask us if you need any clarification.
We will both be judging submissions, please expect scores out of 40, and expect a DOUBLE ELIMINATION! kevrev4 is immune today but is still expected to submit.
Oh and that’s not all…after today’s drop to 7…we’re bouncing back to 8! That’s right babies, it’s a battle back!

Example Songs
Submission:
Noelle’s Heavenlee song- Wondering (Julia Lester & Olivia Rodrigo)
To me this song is about submitting to those thoughts and what you wonder about life…and would it even change anything? The piano is gorgeous and so are the vocals!! The lyrics are powerful. This song is literally stunning in my opinion. Like try to forget it came from Disney, it’s amazing. I really don’t have much else to say, I can get lost in this song for hours, and I feel like that in a way is submitting too..
Blu’s VanitySmurf example - All American Girl (Carrie Underwood) - can be submissive on both ends of the spectrum. He got his perfect all American girl, and she created herself to be perfect, to wrap him around her fingers.
Rebellion:
Noelle’s song - Uprising (Muse)
OKAYYYY I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE THINKING AND JUST HANG AWWWWN -
There are a select few kind of rock songs I like and this is ONE! The music is not too aggressive please take NOTE hunnies. Anyways the lyrics PERFECTLY embody rebellion and I’ve loved this song since I was young. I’ve always been fascinated by rebellions/revolutions/uprisings in general & it’s so easy to imagine one playing out to this song and I love that. The song leans a little too instrumental at some parts & obviously very rocky for my usual taste but I do LOVE the lyrics - they are very strong and just GOOD!!! So it works
Blu’s example- I kissed A Girl( Katy Perry)
Enough said about this one, I will leave the interpretation of it for each individual’s mind, but of course it’s going against what society would consider the “norm”
I chose this song because of it's message of life being hard yet not straying from God because we are destined for greater things. Hardships are inevitable yet for those who believe in God, we have that inner knowledge that God's got us no matter what's trying to bring us down. I use this as the submission song because when you choose to follow a religion, it does take a certain submission to it. Not everyone will understand that nor see the good in "submission" to someone, luckily that's what free will is for so people have that choice whether they want to or not :) But yes this song speaks to me a lot for this category <3
Rebellion: Use My Voice - Evanescence
When I heard this song recently, it just SCREAMED female empowerment and taking back your voice and speaking what needs to be said, no matter what push back others may try to give to you. Amy Lee is a LEGENDARY vocalist so right away I thought of this song for this catagory because her delivery just adds to the power of the song. I may also be taking a risk here but I am using a "live" version rather than just the music video because being able to see her perform it is what further elevates the song!
Choosing this because first and foremost I really love this song but besides that I think it really fits the theme. She sings about falling in love with a man but she hasn't told him yet. She doesn't outright say that but the lyrics lead me to believe that. "I'm trying hard to trust you when you say give me your hand. Baby, I'm falling, I hope you catch me when I land." She is being very vulnerable in this whole verse. She also prefaces one of my favorite verses with "In my dreams..." so it's clear she is head over heels for this man but in a scared/submissive way where she hasn't told him.
Rebellious:
This song is such a classic and has an important message that is still important today. Gwen Stefani was the head of a male band and everyone just saw her as the token girl. So she wrote a song rebelling against people who saw her as that, even her own fans. It was a power move at the time and I also really like the song.
Submission: This song is a perfect representation of the feeling you get when you realize your dream won’t work out. Many people have goals in life that are very hard to obtain. This song shows the moment when you finally realize and accept the fact that you won’t complete your goal and the pain that comes with it.
Rebellion: I’m not gonna give you the satisfaction of a description. Honestly it’s time to stop giving you guys everything you want. I’m not even really trying to please you. Here’s a stupid song anyways I don’t care if it wins.
Submission
I really like the lyrics to this song. A guy trying to get a girl to like him then gives up and just realizes he looks like a idiot.
Rebellion
This has to be the most iconic song for this category. Stand up for yourself and let that person know who is giving you a a hard time youre not gonna take it ANYMOREEEEEEEE!
This is a song about someone who is hurting and deciding to lean on God through full submission. This is a super special song to me, and I need some more collabs from TK and Lecrae. Also, I was actually treated at the hospital this video is shot at.
Rebellion:
These guys took a phrase that was used as a slur towards Christians and turned it into a proclamation of rebellion against society.. The message being, you can look at me like a “freak” but that’s not changing anything about my faith in Jesus.
This song is all about addiction and a darker past. It displays a submission to drugs and the effects of withdrawal are calling out to them, like a prey that's been eating them away as they give themselves in. The rock, indie vibe of this song is just addicting and it's nothing I've ever heard before.
Rebellion: Run Boy Run - Woodkid
This is an incredibly cinematic song and it is aided by a Grammy-nominated music video. It is about running away from the expectations/stereotypes of life and grow as an individual being, hence the monsters running along the child and the new world ahead of him. I was taken aback by the orchestral instruments of this song the first time I heard it and I've been hooked on it since.
