New's Movie Taste: All Stars - ROUND 4 (RESULTS)

19thAug 7, 2022 by NewNightmare7
Hehe I did better than last time so thats a plus <3

This round was hard cause I didnt really dislike any movie :/ but never the less:

The following peoples are SAFE:

Symmetry888 - Clueless (1995) - Oh Clueless is a bop. I think its because of the fashion and overall narcissism of a majority of the characters that I link this movie to Heathers but both are amazing in their own respectice rights. 1. I love Paul Rudd. 2. I love Alicia Silverstone. 3. I love the fashion. 4. I love Brittany Murphy 5. I love the humor and witt. Smart naivety is just great if its pulled off well and its pulled off well. Even though a complaint could be made against this movie being dated its such a great time capsule film for the 90s and when I think of that decade, Clueless is probably the pinnacle of my thoughts so I love it.

PennyTrationStan - Midsommar (2019) - Wow I'm surprised this hasn't been submitted yet! This is a wonderful movie. I am not a person who has experienced a terrible breakup but I do believe in cult energy so yanno. Florence Pugh was the breakout star. Her ability to do everything was phenomenal and im so heartbroken that she wasn't even nominated for an oscar. I will say that on a first watch I didnt really get it or care but when I watched it again it just clicked and its so good. I feel like this was like literature translated to film (but like not an adaptation). The cinematography, the lighting, the foreshadowing, the pace. I don't know it just clicks and im so excited what Ari Aster will do next. Love it.

JayElVeeIsBack - Feris Bueller's Day Off (1986) - For like a very long time this was the only John Hughes movie i've seen. I remember enjoying it but it was quite a long time ago so on a rewatch how is it? Honestly, pretty good! There are so many moments just stapled into pop culture history (especially with the help of Family Guy since its like one of Seth MacFarlanes favs). Its very entertaining. Alot of praise goes to Matthew Broderick but like Alan Ruck to me is the best. He has this weird quality to him that I can't pinpoint but it makes him very rootable especially because hes the one being taken advantage of the whole time. Also Jennifer Grey being angry the whole time is hilarious. The one thing I kind of love/hate is the principal. Like he goes to extreme (borderline predatory) lengths to ruin the credibility of a student despite like having a school full of them. On the one hand I get the idea considering the principal has alot of envy for Ferris but like its so over the top and unrealistic that I'm just mixed. Sometimes I like it and sometimes I hate it. But overall this is just a classic and a fun time!

nateclove - The Neon Demon (2016) - If there is one thing I absolutely love is weird synth music and bright as fuck colours and Nicolas Winding Refn can deliver on that. What the fuck was that? Like that was just...damn that fucked with me. Firstly, watching people regurgitate makes me wanna vomit I realized and secondly, this movie was just all over the place with its tripiness and I kind of loved it? Idk there was something really eerie that displayed itself throughout the whole movie. The standouts were very clearly Elle Fanning and Jena Malone. I absolutely loved them both and they killed it. This is a movie that I'm definitely gonna have to process but there was just something interesting about it. I love the way the chase scene was shot and has like no score, that was bonkers.

Congrats on making it to the next round <3

I'm gonna put the last 6 altogether because I have a Top 4 and a Bottom 2 and I love me some suspense...

demgirl6 - Ratatouille (2007) - Oh its been years since I've seen this movie!!! And its been way too long because this movie is a masterpiece in animation and filmmaking. I love Brad Bird and he made the 2 best pixar movies and then left like rude. Anyways, i'm an extremely picky eater and have no taste pallette of any kind but this movie made me hungry. Its also a very touching story about wanting to make something of the world yet feeling so alienated. The animation is wonderful especially on Remy. The overexageration for him really works. The voice cast is great, the score is fun and lively and everything moves at such a great pace that it never feels boring. What a true modern classic in animation that honestly deserves so much more attention when discussing Pixar.

turkeylover - Shiva Baby (2020) - The shit you make me watch oh my jesus. I mean I love Dianna Agron (who was so mistreated on Glee omg) so I was interested. This movie is chaos and it kind of reminds me of a play. All one location. Alot of movement and dialogue. Its something. I like the performances alot, particularily Rachel Sennott and Molly Gordon. Rachel really does a great job of capturing anxiety especially when it feels like all eyes are on you. I related so hard to her (except the Sugar Daddy thing but doesnt stop me from trying ha) and like felt her panic. I don't particularily have anything against it aside from just a personal preference of not rsally a movie that I'll recollect or revisit. Otherwise it is a solid movie and kind of triggered me so pop off.

austino15fffan - Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001) - Damn you went a little above and beyond by also having the director/writer be the star in the movie! And then I find out its also a play starring him and based off a book written by him damn. Thats quite the effort! And what a bizarre film. Its like a black comedy with the mix of a tragedy in a drama and I was very much on board while taken a back as well. It has this polarizing affect on me where im so enthralled and love it but also find it so bombasticly weird that Idk if I'd seek it out again but I find that to be a much more interesting take than either loving or hating it to be honest. There was alot to enjoy and regardless of my feelings, its a very well put together movie that knows exactly what it is and so unapologetically amazing. The music as well is a bop and a half I was vibing hard with it. Honestly the more I think about it the more I love it.

CarolinaSteele - Garden State (2004) - Side note since it was playing in the opening, I love 2000-2008 Coldplay. They were so great. I think I found through this movie that I like situational comedy more than just somebody constantly telling jokes every 30 seconds. I just find it more creative. But also I laughed so hard at the dog scratching its balls so what do I know. The concept is also really interesting. I like the character dynamic of the two leads. Natalie Portman just has such a charm to her very charasmatic performance which in contrast to Zach Braff is just soo good. I love their chemistry, it felt genuine and honestly really cute. This movie just gave me the feeling that im watching two people live their life and it felt refreshing. You don't see it often or done well but I honestly loved this movie. What a great film

Thirteen - Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971) - This movie has a very interesting fascination on close ups. I can't lie I wasn't really feeling it at first. I felt the pacing was slow and the development was just meh but as soon as the movie started to spiral with fast cuts, that bizarre as fuck sound design and really uncomforting shots, I found this to be a much more interesting movie. I can see this movie being very impactful! In a round full of stacked films I really dont know if this movie will fare well but the respect is there for it and I can at least say it has its moments! When it gets unhinged it gets unhinged and I appreciate that alot.

stuartlittle16 - Parasite (2019) - Wow this is such an interesting concept omg. I can see why it won so many awards. This is just a movie that is so well made. I love movies that can be easy to digest but also have so much meaning behind it as well. As the movie goes on, it gets increasingly disturbing and I was loving it. Im so surprised it took me this long to watch it im actually disappointed in myself that I missed it in theatres the one chance I had to watch it. I am absolutely in love with the cinematography and the colour pallette. Its contrast between rich vibrant colours and a grey/yellow vibe for the slums is really interesting. That last 20 minutes though oh my god. Shit just hit the fan and I had my mouth dropped the whole time. Its fucked to see what people will go to in times of desperation. It sucks even more that there has to be a point of desperation in the first place. Overall though this movie was so amazing jesus.

With that...

Thirteen
turkeylover

Are the bottom 2. Honestly this is a tragedy because I adore you both but the movies just didnt compare to the absolute stack that was this round.

There is no theme for the elimination round. As long as it hasn't been submitted, it's free. Good luck <3
