New's Movie Taste S3 - ROUND 7 (RESULTS)

Apr 1, 2022 by NewNightmare7
Ugh...

I hate this. Im over it. Im frustrated because you all continue to submit great movies and I just dont wanna eliminate anyone. But I have no choice this time. Someone has to go :(

And with that, here are the critiques:

LaCroix - The Little Mermaid (1989) - When I had my huge disney binge last year (I still havent completed it but I got up to 2000!), The Little Mermaid was one I had not yet seen which doesnt say much as I hadn't seen a whole bunch. I was excited to check it out especially after that huge 80's slog and I was thoroughly impressed! The animation is superb! So gorgeous as well as the colours and the songs. Its very catchy! The villain is extremely memorable as is the climax I lived for it. This was like a huge refreshing take for me and for disney and I have it very high on my ranking!

paul028 - Zombieland (2009) - I was OBSESSED with this movie as a kid. I also love zombies and I love the approach this movie took on it. It holds up years later. All 4 characters have something to do and are important to the story. The dialogue is very witty and charming, there is some great carnage and I have always loved the carnival finale. To me this like Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead zombies mixed in with Superbad humor and it works for me! The movie also has a pretty good ammount of heart particularily with the sisters bond and Woody Harrelson's family issues. They feel relatable. Yeah I love this movie. Also Emma Stone!

stuartlittle16 - South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut (1999) - So I will start off by saying my friend absolutely loves South Park! When we were roommates she ended up getting like 15 seasons and the dvd menus would always be playing as she slept and I could hear one specifically that was Michael Jackson related and would go "HEE HEE". It was bizarre. Anyways, I absolutely LOVE this movie! I have ever since I was like a tween. I have the movie on Blu-Ray as well as Blame Canada in my phone. I absolutely love that song. I love that it was nominated for an Oscar like it should! Pissed off it didn't win. Its truly an iconic movie and the effort was very much there. I may not be the biggest South Park fan in the world however I am never opposed to it and this movie is probably the best example of why.

austino15fffan - Harold & Kumar go to White Castle (2004) - What a dumb as hell premise but like I'm on board! Unfortunately i've never been to a White Castle as there aren't any in Canada but I can relate about getting high as hell and wanting specific food! This movie is so much fun! Between the weird as hell cameos (especially Neil Patrick Harris) and some really well placed jokes, I had a great time! The two leads have really good chemistry and bounce well off each other. I love the journey. There isn't much else I could say about it but I definitely had a great time watching this and I would love to watch it again at some point.

Olympia - The Land Before Time (1988) - I love that the actor who plays Littlefoot goes on to be a kid drug dealer and have an empire in Robocop 2. Everyone's dream job! Anyways, this movie is breathtakingly beautiful! The animation is so nice and god that score is phenomenal!!!!  I absolutely adored this movie. It was so cute and well told. The voice acting was really good (although it has a bittersweet feeling knowing what happened to Judith Barsi RIP) and again the animation was so nice. My bestie loved this movie as a kid and I definitely see why. It has something for everyone to appreciate and I can see myself coming back to this movie anytime Im in like a sour mood.

Vixens - The Lion King (1994) - I love that this was a b-side project while fucking Pocaracist was the main project. Ew. Anyways, this movie perfectly encapsulates what corporates don't know about audiences. Its a phenomenal movie. Hans Zimmer's score is beautiful, Elton John's work is great, the animation is stellar, the voice acting: UGH! Jeremy Irons, James Earl Jones, Matthew Broderick, Rowan Atkinson. I live for it. I love it. Its definitely up there as one of my favourite disney movies (in my top 3). There is just so much to appreciate. A fine classic.

And with that, the top 3 of the week are:

Olympia
Vixens

I am truly sorry. I feel horrible about this because you were dominating this competition and probably on your way to win this season. It sucks in a stacked week that this film fell short but I can't stress enough how well you did this season. Thank you so much for playing <3333

LaCroix, i'm giving you a LOW here because I gotta stop being generous. In any other round your movie would be top worthy but here it did almost fall to the back.

And with that heartbreaking elimination (at least for me) we are down to 5. Stay tuned!
