New's Movie Taste S3 - ROUND 6 (RESULTS)

Mar 31, 2022 by NewNightmare7
I'm genuinely perplexed...

This may be the hardest round of the entire series because I have genuinely loved every film submitted and I don't wanna eliminate any of you. I truly don't.

With that being said however, here are the critiques:

LaCroix - Dirty Dancing (1987) - A movie I have never gotten around to but know so much about. Im happy I finally got to watch it! What a promiscuous movie! I really enjoyed it! The dancing and the choreography feels very passionate and flows so well. I had no clue Kenny Ortega was the choreographer. Good for him! Jennifer Grey is amazing in this movie. For 27 years old, she plays a soulful 17 year old pretty well. It also has that 80's flare I always love (even though this takes place in the 60's which doesn't convey well). Its just alot of fun to watch and I will definitely revisit it in the future. A fine classic!

austino15fffan - Labyrinth (1986) - I love Jennifer Connelly. I also love that she goes from this movie to a drug addict in Requiem for a Dream 14 years later. Progress. Anyways, this is a better maze runner movie than the Maze Runner movies so im on board! This movie is really well made! Its well shot and most of the effects hold up and I was shook! David Bowie is also charmingly menacing. I had no idea he was the villain I thought he was just there for like a large portion but nope he is delightfully evil! I live. The music is incredibly 80's but like most 80's stuff, its just charming! Thats the best way I can describe the movie, charming...and trippy as hell.

Olympia - Dead Ringers (1988) - FINALLY! Someone sends a David Cronenberg film! I've been waiting for one since season 1! I've always wanted to get into his films but I havent had the chance to yet so this is my first! This is such a fucked up concept I absolutely love it. Jeremy Irons is so good in this movie. His accent is amazing and I love hearing it! The way Bev becomes unhinged as the movie goes on was hella disturbing. That nightmare scene where Claire bites the adjoining part of the twins body was gross. I love that kind of stuff its so cool! The ending is very tragic though omg I was not expecting that. This is a really good movie with alot of tension, good performances and somber themes.

paul028 - Back to the Future (1985) - A classic at its finest, people regard this as one of the best movies eber made and why I totally see why. The score is wonderful, its so well paced, Michael J. Fox is great as is Crispin Glover and so much of the cast. It really is a phenomenal adventure film. I can rewatch it and always have a good time. I ended up actually getting to watch this in a theatre which for a small town I live in made me happy! it is for sure a great film!

Vixens - The Shining (1980) - The Shining has always been a weird movie for me because everytime I watch it I always love it yet its never been a movie that I recall when I put it in my top lists for some reason. I don't really know why as it is truly a masterpiece. I just like how weird it goes and the shot choices it does like fast zoom ins and the use of steadi-cam. It is really a sight to behold and the performances are wonderful, especially Ms. Shelley DuVall who had to endure such emotional torture like thats awful. I've always enjoyed the visual aesthetic of the hotel, its really beautiful. For a 2 and a half hour film it is remarkably well paced. I never feel bored watching this movie. A truly wonderful movie that ages gracefully.

stuartlittle16 - The Outsiders (1983) - For reference I watched The Complete Novel edition. I've been wanting to watch this movie for a long time! My high school did a play on it one year and I was gonna audition but was like naw I know nothing about it. I loved this movie! Its just so well made and well told. The cinematography is great (which I expected from Coppola) and the performances are really heartfelt, particularily Ralph Macchio. He was my favourite and truly shined bright. The score was also very nice and im surprised at how much Coppola cut it in the re-edit. Oh well. Anyways, this was a really great take on class and societal judgment. The greasers are real stand up people who might not have the best actions but certainly have good intentions and it was emmaculate at how well its conveyed. I have never read the book but I would love to. I am truly surprised at how much I loved it. Its really a powerhouse coming of age tale.

And with that, the TOP 3 of the week are:

Everyone else is HIGH!

I am feeling extremely generous this round. I refuse to eliminate anyone especially because this was just a great round and you all submitted movies I thoroughly enjoyed. None of them were safe worthy they were all worthy of a top spot so there ya go!

Considering also how this round was less than a day, i'm ok with a non-elimination so take it and run!

Down to 6 again and stay tuned for the next round where someone will be eliminated regardless <3
