New's Movie Taste S3 - ROUND 4 (RESULTS)

Mar 28, 2022 by NewNightmare7
Went by faster than I thought!

*PLEASE COMMENT DOWN THOUGHTS* i'm an egotistical whore!

Aight so I'm gonna throw out all the critiques this time cause I can:

austino15fffan - 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016) (Dan Trachtenberg) - This movie is a perfect example of how to intensify paranoia. The question "Is John Goodman telling the truth?" Never scared me so much than in this movie. I love this movie. Mary Elizabeth Winstead again is just a goddess and I love that you went back to back on her cause she is so talented. But all 3 of them are great! Its really well directed and very well set up. I also personally love the ending and getting the answer. It helps the payoff especially with the way it plays out before the end. Such a great psychological film definitely one of my favourites!

paul028 - The Cat in the Hat (2003) (Bo Welch) - LMAO! This submission made me cackle. This movie is truly an unironic masterpiece. From the horrible jokes to the horrible acting (except Dakota Fanning) to the horrible stereotypes, its truly a great movie. Nostalgia definitely clouds my judgment in terms of enjoyment but I dont care. I would rather be entertained by an awful movie than be bored by a well made one. That being said, the set designs are wonderful and I have always enjoyed the colour pallette. What a great movie and I can rewatch this alot! I have.

Vixens - A Star is Born (2018) (Bradley Cooper) - I love seeing actors that have wonderful artistic vision direct. This movie is very charming and very well directed. It takes an extremely dark and tragic turn but the chemistry between Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga is so good. The music is prerty good as well. We love Lady "ahAHhahahAAAHh" Gaga. I like the reflection on self imaging and identity in this movie. It feels organic to the situation and it sucks to see Jack constantly go down in despair. Thats all I pretty much have to say. Its a very poweful movie that has great appeal. I would probably rewatch it if someone else put it on!

Olympia - Mary and Max (2009) (Adam Elliot) - This movie...wow! It was hilarious but also extremely depressing and all in between I absolutely loved it! The humor was exactly the kind of humor that appeals to me and I love seeing that in a wonderfully animated film. Its absolutely gorgeous and flows so profoundly. The score is beautiful, the narration was amazing and I loved the charm the two characters had. Its just alot of back and forth from the perspective of letters but its so touching. This is just such a wonderful movie and from never ever hearing about this, im so astounded at how much I loved it!

LaCroix - Mystery Men (1999) (Kinka Usher) - Hmm...I feel like this movie came out in the wrong time because its style is very Schumacher's Batman and we all know how those turned out. Im personally not a fan of it and it throws my enjoyment way down. That being said, the concept is really fun. I don't really believe Ben Stiller has superpowers but rather needs therapy but pop off I guess. The performances are solid! It kind of feels like James Gunn's The Suicide Squad before its time which is interesting. I am also hella shook that All Star was in this movie before Shrek. Thats iconic. Where the movie lacks for me is the investment and story. Its pretty dull in a superhero burnt out age and doesn't have much appeal to me. I respect what its trying to do, but I dont know if its for me.

CalebDaBoss - Beyond the Gates (2016) (Jackson Stewart) - Honestly this movie bored me and that is pretty much all I have to say. This might be my shortest write-up thus far. Got cool gore though!

stuartlittle16 - Whip It (2009) (Drew Barrymore) - I had no clue Drew Barrymore directed a movie! This makes me think of the American Dad episode which clearly took alot of insoiration from this movie and I stan. I think I love this movie. Its just extremely entertaining and totally my vibe. Women kicking ass is all I need in life. This cast fucking crushes it. Elliot Page is phenomenal and hella fast omg. Drew Barrymore is hilarious and Zoe Bell is iconic. I really like Drew's directing. It felt like she really had an understanding of the material and got great performances from the cast. The writing is also very strong! This is just a great movie I'm so happy I got to watch it.

austino15fffan! Congrats on your second win!

The others will get a HIGH placement.

So despite a disqualifcation I have two LOWS to give out..

CalebDaBoss & LaCroix, this was not your round and I hope to see better moving forward cause I know you both got it <3

paul028 & Vixens are both SAFE

And FromAWindow is disqualified for not submitting. Which is a shame because I thought you were a front runner to go deep. Thank you for playing though <3

And with that we are down to 7. What a mess of a season but I very much appreciate the effort you have put in. Thank you!
