New's Movie Taste - ROUND 5 (RESULTS)

Dec 2, 2021 by NewNightmare7
Welcome to the results show! About 4 days early cause I have seen every movie recently except 1 which i've not seen so made this an easy round!

What is not easy about this though is that I don't think there is a bad movie here. And as much as I'd like to make it a non-elimination round, I have to eliminate someone so ultimately it comes down to my enjoyment.

For this round, all the critiques will be posted; top 3 will be announced and winner will be chosen. Then the eliminated contestant...there are no LOWS in this round:

Jaxon - Urban Legend (1998) (Sony) - Oh man what a trip. This is so 90's and like I have no choice but to enjoy it. Sure it has its problems particularily with the clunky story/ending but ultimately, I am just enjoying the ride. I love Danielle Harris and she is the best in this movie. I also enjoy the Urban Legends used. They are cool stories so it makes it a fun concept.

Symmetry888 - Scooby-Doo (2002) (Warner Bros.) - This movie was my childhood. I was obsessed as a kid and watched this on repeat forever. I just loved the cast and how well they really embodied the characters. Every main character has a chance to shine and it just comes down to really great writing. I love that this was supposed to be R Rated but im glad I got to enjoy this as a kid cause it shaped alot of my sarcasm. The CGI hasn't aged well and a couple of the jokes don't land (particularily the fart off) but that will never take away the charm of this film.

turkeylover - X-Men: First Class (2011) (20th Century Fox) - First off, shoutout to Matthew Vaughn for making two of my favourite comic book films of all time and this is one of them. Without a doubt my favourite X-Men film as well. I just love this origin story. It's alot of fun and the cast kills it! When I first saw this I was obsessed with Jennifer Lawrence and I think she does great here as Mystique (my favourite mutant) despite the not so great make-up. And I don't give a fuck about any of the complainers out there, I like January Jones as Emma Frost. Sue me. Anyways, yeah this is great. Also it is the best gay romcom!

Becksta20 - The Silence of the Lambs (1991) (MGM) - I watched this for the first time this year (along with Manhunter and Hannibal) and oh my god I have heard all the praise and the hype and I was going in with really high expectations but also to be let down by those expectations and it did not disappoint in the slightest. This is truly one of the best films ever made. It has such a great pace, the writing keeps you captivated and the performances just shine. I love everyones job here especially Ted Levine, dude has a scary as hell voice. I know people bash on me for liking some of the more obvious choices but here is the thing, some are obvious and have been praised for a reason. This one deserves all that it got.

PennyTrationStan - Clue (1985) (Paramount) - Clue just has this perfect camp vibe to it. Its so over the top but it plays it so well and knows exactly what its doing. I love that Debra Hill produced this. Go her! Clearly the standout here is Tim Curry. The man can really do no wrong and has this quality that improves everything that is happening. That doesn't take away from the rest of the cast though. I love Scarlet and her sass. I think if I had any critique it would be a couple moments in the middle where the pacing slows but other than that this is just a fun time.

nateclove - Sinister (2012) (Alliance) - Unfortunately, I watched this movie pretty recently so with that, I was spoiled about alot of good scenes in the movie, particularily the lawn mower one so I think that mindset drowned out my experience however i'm not gonna let that take away from this critique cause that feels biased. This is a well made movie and the tension really does its job. The home videos are disturbing enough to be glued to what is happening but feel so gut wrenched and I appreciate that. As for the storyline itself, it's a great concept. I enjoy Ethan Hawke desperately needing another big break and doing what he can to get it. Unfortunately, it sucked for him but its great for us! I think overall, this is a movie I would totally rewatch and learn to appreciate more the more I watch it.

oswordo3 - The Breakfast Club (1985) - This movie is very captivating. Where as I found it hard to relate to Risky Buisness due to its place in time, this movie's themes are relatable to anyone. Its so frustrating to have so much pressure on life and all these expectations just to disappoint everyone because its not their standard but fuck them. Emilio Estevez and Anthony Michael Hall's monologues are really upsstting because I see people like their characters all the time. But great acting all around. This is just a movie that takes it to the next level because the themes are timeless. .

tbrown_47 - Cabin Fever (2002) - Look at you go with Eli Roth. Honestly I can't complain I tend to enjoy his movies and this is no exception. This is just a fun movie. Honestly this and Hostel are my two favs of his (I do love Knock Knock though). Its pretty nicely directed and the characters, while awful, are still cool from their performances. Sure there isn't a whole lot of substance but whatever. Its fun!

The top 3 for this week are:

turkeylover
oswordo3
Becksta20

And the winner of this week is......

Becksta20! Congrats! Well deserved win in a rather stacked round!

And the eliminated contestant will unfortunately be...

Jaxon. I'm truly sorry it was really hard and while I do enjoy your movie, it comes up short in a round full of enjoyment. Thanks so much for playing <3

To the rest of you...a surprise will head your way! Stay tuned!
