New's Music Taste - FINALE

Dec 31, 2020 by NewNightmare7
Welcome to the final round of New's Music Taste! We are down to just 4 and its going to be a very close finish to the end!

Now for the final round we have 4 categories! Each of you are going to submit a song that fits and I will judge each round indiviually like the last one and I will also take the entire run of the competition into account when I choose a winner!

Category #1 - "What Have You Learned?" - I think i've developed a well understood taste with you guys so I want you to send a song that I will LOVE!

Category #2 - "Outside Your Comfort Zone" - You all have been pretty diverse but I wanna hear a song that you guys wouldn't normally have posted! I was originally gonna give you a genre I think would be different but I wanna see what you can come up on your own for. This is a very important category <3

Category #3 - "What Changed Music?" - I want you to submit a song that you feel changed the course of music and inspired other artists to create similar music. With that, I would like to hear some songs and artists that were inspired by said song.

Category #4 - "Closer" - The song that best describes your journey in this competition. This is essentially your victory lap so choose wisely.

And that is all! I wish you good luck in the final hours of this competition!

Category 1: Midnight Sky - Miley Cyrus

This is me resisting the urge to post I Feel Love XD. But I think this song has a modern disco vibe to it that's pretty cool, and I definitely get some Debbie Harry vibes (though maybe that's just because Miley went blonde lol)

Category 2: Jezebel - Sade

I went through most of my submissions and noticed that most of my songs were fairly upbeat. Then I went through my playlist and realized that most of my songs are fairly upbeat. So to go outside my comfort zone, I'm going to slow it down a little bit.

Category 3: Respect - Aretha Franklin

Aretha is a queen whose powerful vocals inspired some of artists I really enjoy like Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Luther Vandross. Even country musicians like Dolly Parton have come out and said they were influenced by Aretha. A true icon.

Category 4: Half Time - Amy Winehouse

I think this song describes me in every music game. The verses really describe me when I'm listening to music. The chorus (time to think it through, see it from a different view) describes me reflecting on which songs to pick, seeing it from the host's perspective while staying true to my own music taste. Plus it's one of my favorite Amy songs, so I think it's a fitting closing song for me.

I had a lot of fun with this. Thanks for letting me play, New. =)

Category #1 - "What Have You Learned?" - Your favourite song of all time is Call Me by Blondie

Category #2 - "Outside Your Comfort Zone"  - Last Hope by Paramore

I’m not a massive Paramore fan but I know how much you enjoy them. I almost posted this in another round but didn’t so I thought I’d give you the opportunity to listen to it again

Category #3 - "What Changed Music?" - Rebel Rebel by David Bowie

David Bowie is one of the most influential musicians ever. His music inspired many different genres (metal/rock/grunge/pop) but the one I wanted to showcase was a song that opened the doorway for a departure from the mainstream. He proved you didn’t have to have a particular look, you could be what you wanted. He inspired personal artistry and nonconformity and his creation of Ziggy Stardust paved the way for other gender-bending performers like Grace Jones, Annie Lennox and Marilyn Manson.

Category #4 - "Closer" - Keep Holding On by Avril Lavigne because essentially that’s what I’ve been doing, I’ve had some highs and lows but generally I’ve been safe which has meant I’ve made it through

I have loved your music taste game! It’s been so fun to see what music you enjoy and you’ve always put in so much effort in critiquing the songs. Thanks for an awesome time ❤️

1. Amii Stewart - Knock on Wood

2. Azealia Banks - 212 (Previously my submissions have all been pop didn't get me a high or a win, and landed me in the bottom except run away with me <3, didn't want to submit something rock or pop-punk as it would be too obvious now lol. So decided to go with something that I enjoyed and I was watching The Bling Ring the other day.)

3. Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
(Her influence on music has inspired artists like Adele, Florence and the Machine, Ellie Goulding, Lady Gaga, and Lana Del Rey, her career in the mainstream was short but it has made a lasting impact on music.)

4. A Day to Remember - Naivety
(When I finally stopped overthinking my music selections that's when I did the best in, and that can be seen in the previous two rounds. I always felt that putting pop-punk or even rock music is always a risk because it can be hit or miss so to close off I chose a song that's about feeling lost along the way but eventually finding it and owning it.)
