Previously, on Survivor: The new Nakum tribe was sent to their first tribal council. They had 3 members from Tagi, John, Twila, and Wanda, 1 member from Nakum, Gillian, 1 member from La Flor, Roxy, and 2 members from Bayon, Jay and Lauren Rimmer. Gillian immediately sided with the Tagi alliance, citing that she thought that the old school players should stick together. John saw this as a good way to get into the majority, but felt like if he went down that road and picked off the new school players, they wouldn't win another immunity, so he went to Roxy, Jay, and Rimmer and tried to flip the game onto Gillian, however Rimmer said that she wanted to break up the Tagi alliance. John now felt he was in a tricky spot, should he go after Wanda or who the old school alliance wants to? Rimmer then went to the old school players and told them about John's duplicity, which shocked them and made them want to vote John, and this left Rimmer in the true swing vote position.
