New's Movie Taste: All Stars - ROUND 8 (RESULTS)

Sep 11, 2022 by NewNightmare7
Omg hey girls! Welcome back.

I asked for spooky times and i got some spooky times! Lets see the critiques:

PennyTrationStan - Lake Mungo (2008) - Aw Lake Mungo is such a sad and somber movie. But oh my god that ending gives me chills to this day. Something about the low quality camera and the way the body looks is just so disturbing and its tense and oh my god. I believe it was Thirteen who sent a similar documentary type style horror movie and while I found that one to be kind of lost in its own presentation, I never feel that with this movie. Its a tragic tale presented so authentically. The performances are jarring and sad, the camera work is visual yet haunting and the overall story is simple yet so deep in its execution. What a good movie that I have no interest ever revisiting but I appreciate it so much.

CarolinaSteele - Us (2019) - I swear I thought this was submitted in the past but I guess not! Your slay for submitting both Jordan Peele movies so far (excluding NOPE). I saw this movie 3 times in the theatre. I was so enamored with its concept. The score is amazing (shoutout to the opening credits theme and the tethered mix), the double performances are spectacular! Lupita Nyong'o just sells both of her characters with ease. Elizabeth Moss is great as well. While I do find Get Out to be the better film, I find myself enjoying this movie more because its so up my alley as a straightforward slasher. Its alot of fun and is one of my favourite horror movies of the 2010's. Really nailed the vibe of the theme <3

Symmetry888 - Ringu (1998) - So ironically you said you've only seen this version, I've seen the remake and not this one. While I definitely enjoyed it I wasn't like blown away by anything it presented. Maybe thats cause i saw it way too late. Anyways, I find Japaneese horror to be so fucked up and investing that im here for it. That little boy is creepy. The wooden acting is surprisingly really good from him. Also the whack sound effect when the dad pushes Sadako into the well made me laugh so hard. One positive I really have over the other film is its runtime. Its not padded. Just 90 minutes and gets to the point while still having an emotional connection to the two main characters. That being said even on a 90 minute runtime this movie can still be kind of long. I dont know why I feel that way maybe its some of the story in itself but it gives me long vibes. But the particular Sadako scene towards the end was great. The missing finger nails in particular were a nice touch! Also I love Hiroyuki Sanada. His performance in Sunshine is amazing. Anyways, overall I did enjoy this movie. It looks good its performed well and it has some great atmosphere and iconic scenes but I feel like there is something holding me back from loving it.

austino15fffan - Underwater (2020) - When this movie came out I remember hearing really good things especially for a movie that came out in January...right before the pandemic lol. When I checked it out I can't lie I wasn't really interesting however I was excited to rewatch it cause I wanna like it. So Kristen Stewart is a badass and I love her very much. I've said it before but I have always been a fan of her since I watched Catch That Kid. I dont care for Twilight but we can ignore that. Anyways, shes great. I also really like how straight to the point this movie is. Its like "this is your issue good luck" and im on board! This movie for the most part is pretty good! It has some intense moments, some good performances and interesting creature design (albeit very hard to see). The lighting in this movie bothers me quite a bit but oh well. I do love the score though. Marco Beltrami is severely underrated. While this is definitely an enjoyable movie and I absolutely love the ending. Its not something i am completely enamored with.

JayElVeeIsBack - 1408 (2007) - For something as simple as this concept is, wow it is executed very well. John Cusack as a broken man with a tough exterior that easily breaks was very investing. The conversations between him and Samuel L. Jackson were ominous and tense and I loved it. The room itself is creepy and atmospheric and it really said "I'm a fuck this man up". I really liked this movie. It has alot of heart and intensity. I love psychological horror and seeing peoples minds be broken. That sounds sadistic and you would be right in that assumption :) anyways, its a very well crafted and executed movie and gave me some good spooky times.

nateclove - A Tale of Two Sisters (2003) -  Woah this movie was a fucking trip damn. I was so thrown for a loop like 3 or 4 times I was hella shook. I loved the psychological aspect of this movie. It didnt click with me at first and for like a good majority of the movie I was confused but once it started to come together everything clicked and I was like "oh this is genius!". The two sisters are amazing especially Su-mi she was a slay. I called out the connection between the mom and her but i never expected that outcome and I was quaked. I really enjoyed this movie. If I had any negative there are a couple loud noises parts that like dont need to be there at all but like its a nitpick so slay.

Honestly all 6 of you did really well and I would say no elimination but then we'd be here forever so naw.

PennyTrationStan...you are SAFE

Which means sadly our bottom 2 is:

Symmetry888
austino15fffan

I liked both of your movies but unfortunately I didn't love them. That being said this is gonna be a tough as fuck elimination cause both of you have been killing it.

For the elimination round uhm lets do this..

Im feeling some turkeylover vibes rn and considering the comments of last round, I want you to submit a movie you've never seen before. And i will know if you cheated this lol

Here is the catch though...you need why you chose it and what do you think would be good about it. The more specific the better as thay is what im gonna be critiquing on.

Dont forget the submission is by Mail <3 good luck you two!
