New's Movie Taste S3 - ROUND 5 (RESULTS)

Mar 30, 2022 by NewNightmare7
Hello and welcome to the results show!

I had no idea how many people were gonna try to submit Men In Black! I wss not expecting that and I was even more shook no one submitted a sequel after! But besides the point.

I will throw all of the critiques out together:

LaCroix - Enemy of the State (1998) - I love Tony Scott. Granted, I've only seen one film of his before this one but that film is like in my top 3 movies so pop off. What a weird as hell cast. Jack Black, Jamie Kennedy, Seth Green and Jason Lee? Huh. This movie is pretty entertaining. Will Smith does a pretty solid job in the role. I wasn't expecting him to be a character thrown into the madness but rather cause the madness. Its also pretty ahead of its time with privacy invasion. I do think this movie is a little longer than it should be but never the less it is entertaining and a huge improvement on your past submission! It feels like a grower film so yeah!

Olympia - I Think I Love My Wife (2007) - Matthew Morrison? I surprisingly liked this alot more than I thought I would. It has alot of cliches, alot of poor taste jokes and crude humor but I also found some of it to be hilarious and pretty smart. I liked the callback jokes it makes it very rewarding. The story in itself is dumb but pretty funny. He just wants sex but hes also respectful enough to not be a douche...instead he'll just be a douche elsewhere. Its like this movie has so many problems but yet I overlook it because I was just entertained in the journey. Its quite conflicting but Im confident enough to say I did like it!

paul028 - Suicide Squad (2016) - Oo this was not a good choice to be honest. I know some people find this underrated but honestly, I just find this extremely clunky, undeveloped yet overdeveloped and the ammount of songs constantly being used oh my god. I like the colours, I'm always one for visual appeal and I like Will Smith in the movie (and Margot Robbie queen). But this movie is just hella messy and it sucks with how much studio interference there was. We will probably never see and Ayer cut which oh well I guess. I don't know it's just a mess and there are much better Will Smith movies out there in my personal opinion but pop off for this atrocity.

stuartlittle16 - The Pursuit of Happyness (2006) - I feel like this is the definition of an Oscar bait movie. A drama that is inspired by true events of a person with passion struggling with something. It seems like Will Smith has done a couple of these huh? That being said, he is phenomenal in this movie. I love how much he cares for his son. Jaden Smith is also pretty good in this movie so good for him. Its a pretty cute movie! Its not great but there is alot to appreciate and it could have gotten to be great had there probably been some tighter writing/style choices but the latter is personal preference. It also has a very sweet ending which I enjoy! Good job!

austino15fffan - I, Robot (2004) - Ok so I'm a start by saying that I, Robot is one of my favourite movies of all time. I have loved this movie ever since it came out (I was 4 but whatever) and its one of the movies where even without nostalgia, I can analyze this as an amazing movie at least in my opinion. I don't know what the hell critics were smoking when this came out because I disagree so much with their negative criticisms. This movie has always been thrilling and powerful to me. Its themes about technology advancement and human corruption yet robotic humanity are impactful. I also 1. Love Will Smith in this movie and 2. Love Marco Beltrami's score. I still listen to it every now and then. The action is so good and looks great 18 years later (I know you said it doesn't but compared to what came out at the time I feel like it does lol) and its just a perfect action movie to me. I've been waiting for someone to post this and im so happy the day has came!

CalebDaBoss - Hitch (2005) - Why is Michael Rapaport in so much stuff? I swear i've been seeing him everywhere and I'm hella shook! This movie is mixed for me. I'm extremely picky when it comes to my taste for comedy and I tend to not enjoy Rom-Coms as much as I wish I would like to. To me, its just alot of cliches when it takes itself too seriously and for Hitch, its just a generic movie. There isn't anything horrible here but there isn't anything amazing. I will say the allergic reaction scene was pretty good as well as the fast dating thing! Its a solid performance by Will Smith and thats pretty much it. At least this movie is not boring cause overall, I was enjoying the ride, its just after the ride I was underwhelmed.

Vixens - Concussion (2015) - Oscar Bait!!!! That accent was hella distracting at first especially because of how many Will Smith movies I have watched in the past couple days but I got over it. This movie is interesting but just feels like a middle of the road movie for nothing being a stand out. It follows the same narrative beats as any other Oscar bait movie and given that we already have another this round thats a little better its just underwhelming. That being said, the acting is really good. The performances are great and I appreciate that. It does move accordingly after the first act so thats good as well. I think overall, its a middle of the road film.

Am I the only one who submitted a Chris Rock film? Glad you liked it, even if it is kind of a dumb mess. I thought Chris Rock and Kerry Washington had suprisingly good chemistry and it's always nice seeing Gina Torres too.
