Nano’s Movie Taste: Round 2 Mar 10, 2022
https://i.imgur.com/pf9S2WD.gif

It’s time for Round 2!

I believe we had a very promising first round... but with this second round, things are going to get tougher!

The first round’s theme still left you with a variety of options... but I believe the second round’s options will be a lot more compressed!

And this round, one of you WILL be eliminated.

Before we get to that though, we should now see what Braden’s new power from Round 1 is.

Well, he has picked... and now, he has...

...

...

...

...

...

The RERUN Power!

What does it do? Well let me put it simply...

In all movie taste games, there is a rule stating that films submitted in past rounds cannot be submitted again in a future round unless the host specifically says otherwise. This rule will be in place during my game as well... but not when this power is used.

Braden can use this power during any of the next 7 rounds. If he does, he will be able to submit ONE film that has already been submitted by either him or another user earlier in the competition, as long as the film fits the theme. He is being given the opportunity to put on a rerun... and if he uses it right, it could really help him in this competition!

So Braden, use this power wisely!

Now that we know what kind of power Braden holds, let’s see what the theme of Round 2 is.

So... Pixar films are a huge part of my childhood. I would literally watch them all the time. And today, as an adult, I still enjoy Pixar’s newest movies.

So for this round, I’d like for you all to submit a film that was animated by the company Pixar!

I’m pretty sure all Pixar films are available to watch on Disney+, so I don’t believe streaming availability will be an issue this round. Next round, however, will probably be an issue...

There are only around 20-30 Pixar films in existence currently, so you don’t have a lot of options... but they make a wide variety of movies, so I believe we’ll see some film variety this round.

Choose your Pixar film carefully, because the player who submits my least favorite Pixar film of the round will be ELIMINATED from the competition, regardless of how they did in Round 1.

And also remember that ANOTHER POWER will be given to the player who’s film ranks the highest!

With that, I’ll leave you to think it over. You have 24 hours from now to submit your Pixar films. Good luck!

I have finally finished watching all of the films submitted for our first round!

For this round, I asked all of you to submit a Netflix film. There were some submissions I loved and some submissions I despised.

Let’s see how each of your films did!

...

...

...

...

...

Jeffrey’s Submission ( LaCroix):

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)

Review: I vaguely remember glimpses of this movie as a kid, but I don’t believe I ever watched it entirely. I think that was mainly because the costumes kinda weirded me out, and to be fair they still do today. I know a lot of people consider this movie to be a family classic, and I guess I can see why. However, I don’t think this was my kind of movie. I don’t think the plot was written well, and the humor in it was extremely cheesy... and don’t get me wrong, I can appreciate cheesy humor from time to time, but I don’t think it blends well with action sequences and ninja-style fights. Plus, the whole backstory of a rat practicing Kung Fu was stupid as hell. I don’t have anything against people who enjoy this movie, but it unfortunately wasn’t something I was able to enjoy.

Lawrence’s Submission ( Lifeiscool):

A Madea Homecoming (2022)

Review: I had never seen a Madea film prior to this one. I didn’t know a lot about the franchise, and all I had to go off of was the opinions of relatives and close friends, whom all collectively hated Madea and Tyler Perry as a whole. Based off of that, I had low expectations going into the movie... and sadly the movie didn’t exceed them. I was very bored throughout the whole film, and the closest I got to laughing was when Madea pulled out her gun after being touched. And even then... all that got out of me was an extremely small chuckle. Unfortunately I think the movie relied too heavily on its characters talking nonsense really fast as a way to make its audience laugh, and that made the movie a very annoying experience for me. I can see why my family and friends don’t like the Madea franchise now, and I’m sorry I turned out to be just like them :(

Braden’s Submission ( FromAWindow):

About Time (2013)

Review: Prior to this game, I had never heard anything about this film and was unaware of its existence. I wasn’t really sure what to expect going into it, but what I was expecting based off of first impressions was a cliche romance movie. However, after I read the movie’s basic synopsis and watched it for myself, I immediately became intrigued and the film caught my full attention. Overall, I loved it! The time traveling element was a unique way to make the love story interesting, and the movie’s overall message was very thought provoking. There were plenty of heartfelt moments throughout the film, and that made it a very enjoyable experience for me! These kinds of films aren’t the films I usually watch, so I’m very shocked over how much I enjoyed this! It’s a great movie, and therefore a great submission!

Meli’s Submission ( melissasinclair29):

Shrek (2001)

Review: In my opinion, this is one of the best non-disney animated films of all time. I remember watching it a bunch of times throughout my childhood, and I still enjoy it today as an adult. I’ve seen it so many times to the point where I know almost every word. And not to mention... it’s a huge bonus that a lot of iconic memes originated from this very movie. The movie’s overall moral lesson is very moving... teaching kids that you shouldn’t judge people based on what they look like on the outside. I also admit I’m a fan of medieval-fantasy stories. Add that with it’s brilliant cast composed of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and John Lithgow, and you have a hilarious and enchanting adventure for the whole family to enjoy. Great submission!

Gumball’s Submission ( gumball221520):

Truth or Dare (2017)

Review: I had actually watched this film one time a couple years ago, around the time the other Truth or Dare movie (the one big Blumhouse) came out. I remember thinking it was a pretty crappy movie... and after rewatching it after all those years, I now think worse of it. I’m sorry, but I don’t know how else to put this... this movie was bad. The character dialogue was garbage, it was in no way scary, and I couldn’t have cared less for most of the characters. The only character I kinda liked was Tyler. And I also think the title is misleading... there were hardly and “truths” in the movie, it was mostly just dares. On a better note, I will say that the body part removal scene was pretty excruciating to watch... and I guess the acting was okay for that scene among a few others. The second half of the movie was definitely where it got good, but overall I think this movie had too many flaws for me to enjoy it.

Michael’s Submission ( stuartlittle16):

Enola Holmes (2020)

Review: I had heard of this film and was interested in watching it on my own, but I never found the time to do so. I’m glad I got the chance to watch it from this competition. This movie looked fun from the trailer, and for the most part it did not disappoint. I loved all the witty dialogue as well as Millie Bobby Brown’s charming fourth wall breaks. I feel like her charisma brought a lot of likability to her role. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this film. While I don’t think I have a desire to rewatch it (unless I decide to when the sequel comes out), I believe it’s a great movie that anyone can enjoy.

Nevra’s Submission ( turkeylover):

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

Review: I had never seen a Texas Chainsaw movie prior to this game. I didn’t even know what the movies were about... all I knew was that the killer was a chainsaw psycho named Leatherface. I saw that this specific TCM movie had high praise, so I had high expectations going into it. Unfortunately, I think I was let down. It wasn’t necessarily a “bad” movie... it had a few decent scares and some enjoyable gore (hope that doesn’t sound sadistic, lol), so I can see why people love this movie. Personally, however, I found it a dark and confusing mess. I couldn’t have cared less for it’s cliche cast of horny young people, and I don’t really understand why Leatherface’s family (I think that’s who those people were???) didn’t just capture them when they had the chance. Overall, this movie was just a thumbs down for me. I don’t despise people who like it though.

Ryan’s Submission ( imprincearthur):

The Conjuring (2013)

Review: I had seen one or two movies set in the Conjuring universe before, but I don’t believe I ever watched the film that started it all. I went into it not really knowing what to expect, and what I was given was a pretty terrifying exorcism story. The film’s scares were very well done, and there was plenty of disturbing imagery throughout (which I think goes great in horror movies). My only problem with it was that it was SO SLOW. I mean... I get a horror movie’s gotta horror, but it felt like during the first 3 quarters of the movie we’re literally shown one scary scene, and then we wait a full 15 minutes until the next one is shown. And each wait was pretty boring, ngl. I wish the scary scenes weren’t so spread apart... that’s pretty much the only movie’s main flaw. Other than that, it’s a pretty good film and a pretty great submission!

Juniper’s Submission ( NewNightmare7):

Jumanji (1995)

Review: So, I had actually never seen this movie before. What’s odd is that I HAVE seen the two sequels to this movie that came out a couple years ago. I did like those films for the most part, but I never even considered watching the original until now. After watching it, I have to say that I’m kinda disappointed... with how the sequels were made. The original Jumanji is a great family film, and I’m so confused as to why its sequels were targeted at a teen audience. This film did have a few issues, but for the most part it was actually pretty fun. I was hooked throughout most of it, and it really made some of the nods from the sequels make a lot more sense. Overall, while I did enjoy this film, I wasn’t TOO keen on it. It does have a few flaws, such as some of its less interesting scenes. However, I believe it is in no way a bad movie, and I completely understand why people consider it to be a classic.

Montérégie’s Submission ( Crayadian):

Hush (2016)

Review: I actually watched this film for the first time a few months ago. I remember appreciating the film for it’s use of sound, or lack thereof. Rewatching it today, I still think this is a very respectable horror movie. While I think the premise of a deaf person as the main protagonist in a horror movie is a little overused, the film still manages to stand out from other movies with the same trope by showing us the perspective of it’s deaf character. It shows us at times what she hears, and then what everyone else hears. Overall, this is a very well written horror movie, and while I don’t think I have a desire to watch it any more, I believe fans of the horror genre should definitely consider viewing this film!

About Time (2013)

CONGRATULATIONS BRADEN! Your film submission was my favorite this round! I honestly wasn’t expecting to like this movie as much as I did. I just think it’s a very unique film that has a touching message, and I just feel like it deserved the top spot.

This means Braden will be recieving a special power that could help him in the game! I will reveal what that power is in Round 2 once he chooses.

Now that we’ve seen the best... we now must deal with the worst.

I’m so sorry, but Jeffrey, Lawrence and Gumball are the bottom 3 this round. I just couldn’t get into any of your films, and therefore I had to give them low rankings. It was difficult choosing the worst film of the round, but I’ve made my decision.

A Madea Homecoming (2022)

I’m so sorry Lawrence, but your film was my least favorite this round. If this had been any other round, you’d have gotten eliminated for this. However, I made the decision not to eliminate anyone in the first round, so you’ll be getting something no one else in this competition will get... a second chance. I hope that you’ll submit better films in the rounds that have yet to come.

Here were the official rankings:

1. About Time
2. Shrek
3. Enola Holmes
4. Hush
5. Jumanji
6. The Conjuring
7. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
8. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
9. Truth or Dare
10. A Madea Homecoming

So, what do you think? How would you have ranked these films?

Braden will choose a power soon, and afterward we’ll get Round 2 started!

Good luck :)

Villager: Keaton

Honestly, extremely ugly, and the worst personality in the game, but because of the STUPID campsite rules, I was forced to have him on my island. He was the first-ever villager to move away, and good riddance!
