I think San Francisco is in California, so I pick California.

New York sounds amazing too but that seems way more fast-paced and is more comparable to a large UK city. California just seems more chilled out IMO.

Also you can have nice houses with big lawns and in New York you are cramped up in a tiny apartment. And driving and getting around in New York is Cray Cray. I like New York but not a place to live at.

California is an enormous state.  There are places there I would absolutely despise living in, and places there I would love to live in.  The same goes for New York.  I think if I chose the best place from each, I would rather live in New York.
