This is not a mod endorsed blog just me being curious. Frookies got old for me years ago when the same dusty people would play and make the same dusty moves and then bitch about it. I assume the rotation plus the Frookies league has amplified this. Do you all feel like Frookies is fun, has it lost its charmed, or has the rotation itself soley ruined it?
I think it's getting worse because of the PFL. A good idea in theory but now EVERY cast is the same (I'm a part of the problem, ik). Without the rotation and with a cool off of like 3-5 games it would be better. But people are taking frooks very seriously now
I think it’s fun especially w the leauge would be way better w out rotation most of the time we have like 50 people trying to join one game then by the time the next one fills those who got out just enroll again. A lot of us slow people keep missing and it hurts the noobs a lot fr
Frookies isn’t fun anymore. You have to wait too long then try and get in and it’s almost impossible to get in on a phone.
I can only play frookies in the morning when hardly anyone’s online and it’s usually the same 9 people in that one too
It’s lost it’s charm sadly.. same people , same premades.
People shouldn’t be allowed to play every frookies . They should have like a 1/2 frookies runs before they can play again. To give everyone else a chance
I think the rotation makes everytime the same people playing including me. This sucks and makes a lot of people to use the same annoying gameplay game after game
And now because they're jumped in I don't even have a chance to play which is kinda awful, especially for newer users I assume when it's one of the only games they can play, kind of off putting I'd assume
I still wish there was a way to make games blind to where you didn’t know who was joining. Obviously people could still premade but like if it was hidden on your profile until it started. Just a random thought that I’m sure no one would like
It’s one of those things I never wanted to play bc they were inactive and now that they’re more active I want to play but cant get in bc I’m 90% mobile
The stupid ass FPL and the rotations system have made frookies even less fun. Also, tell randomize to get off his ass and fix the damn red nose system.
I love frookies, but haven't played AS much due to the rotation. I agree that the rotation is making it more fun, it just messes with me because I can't join unless I sit and wait which a lot of times I don't have time to or don't want to play at the time the rotation comes around. :)
Personally, I think the rotation got me back into frookies. The league has made me lose interest since thats when I think the same people amplified increased intensely.
The instant start helps for sure, I think the best possible inclusion would be if you gave a 1-2 minute time period for everyone to join, and then it randomly picked 13 people to make it into the game. The result would be wild and very beneficial to the game
I'm torn. On one hand I LOVE how competitive they are now. On the other, I literally have not been able to play the game that is kind of the staple of the website since I've been back. It's not accessible at all.
I'm open to being told this is a terrible idea, I'm not sure how I feel about it myself, but what if there was a competitive and casual version of frooks? I'm feeling our userbase isn't quite large enough for that but it would be interesting. Competitive would be roughly just as difficult to get into as it is now, higher payouts, higher cost to enter. Casual would be how it used to be with much lower payouts with no rotational enrollment.
Honestly I dont like the rotation cause not only is it the same people, it fills so fast that you can’t even see who’s in the game before hand.... and since the next frookies has to wait until a cast or fast has filled, then it just comes down to the same people winning the clicking race...
And tbh I only played long games for the longest while, and wasn’t expecting a payout increase in those games, but a fair increase to the fast games would actually encourage me to play them...
i think since rotation is a thing and many people try to get in at once, maybe add the random factor to it so let 26 people enroll into a anonymous poll and then the algo splits the group into 2 games to lower the chances of a premade succeeding.
My issue is that with the rotation it really hurts those with shitty internet or bad computers. I can get in some times, but others it lags just enough for me to miss. Like i get thats a me problem, but like still.
Could there be a way that those that fill the fasting or casting get first dibs in the frooks pool?
Like nothing is worse than joining a castings and waiting all day for it to fill and u are like yeah ill frooks, and it fills,
Or being nice to join fastings cause i dont care about kpg and then missing to 13 people that didnt join the game to fill it
I would play frooks more often except I hate the constant spam I’d much rather hoh be based on something else and people actually have time to chat and strategize
Keeping in mind that I'm aware that randomize is unlikely to make changes... unfortunately...
My primary problems with the game mode are:
A) Lack of skill expression for HoH: Spamming general nonsense over and over while "plussing each other and negging the others" is such poor design and has plagued all iterations of Rookies over the years. While I would personally hate if challenges were used to calculate HoH because I'm awful at them, it'd at least be more interesting.
I would appreciate some sort of new challenge that didn't reward having years of practice. Why? Well veto is already rewarding that practice and, with HoH being so powerful, games are only interesting when a players chance of winning HoH is about even across each player (note how people always complain when the same alliance wins HoH every week in BBUS, so they use crapshoot comps to allow for variance). While skill should give players some sort of edge over new players, there should still be chances for new players to win, similar to Monopoly.
As for an example of such a game... I have no idea, honestly. All the challenges we've had don't really fit that criteria except DoND which is a total crapshoot with some minor skill expression.
If we wanted to keep HoH non dependant on challenges, I have a fairly simple proposal, a simple wager system.
In lieu of plusses/mega/activity determining HoH, each player starts the game with 50 'energy'. Each day change, you can use as much (or as little) energy as you want. The more energy you use, the higher your chances of winning HoH are (but using the most energy doesn't guarantee a win). Energy usage for each user may or may not remain hidden, I'm not sure which is more interesting. You gain extra energy each round (maybe up to a cap?) so if you don't feel you need HoH now, you can save up energy to win it later while everyone else loses energy trying to win HoH and failing. Maybe users gain energy based on activity/plusses (which would be good to at least give users some reason to comment in the game at all), or maybe apples appear in the game that grant energy, or both?
I think either of these ideas would be a step away from the dull gameplay pattern of saying "hi" back and forth each day change, and prevents premades from steamrolling by coordinating plusses/negs.
B) Lack of variety
Some sort of very minor twists would be amazing. Maybe have a "Extra Veto" challenge tab that allows a second veto to be won in the early rounds? Maybe grant two HoH's that each nominate one player? Maybe three nominees? All of these don't seem extremely difficult to code, at least if you only allow them in the first four/five rounds, and would create some variety. Maybe have some ultra rare twists that only appear 1 in 100 games such as a returnee comp? That's extra.
I know mods can't implement these, they are only possible if randomize ever feels the urge to improve the games, but from my extremely limited programming knowledge, I can't imagine these being extremely difficult to implement, and I'm mostly just being hopeful because I'd love to actually enjoy games again.
As for what mods could do to improve it? Maybe push for a stars-style limit on how many consecutive games you can join? I know the community will hate this initially, but I think it'd produce more variety in casts. Potentially, with a high limit (maybe you can only join once every 5 games) you can remove the rotation entirely.
Obviously that is dependant on the ability of the mods to prevent multi's, which can be used to bypass the limit.
Any change that isn't a core system change to the game mode is only a bandaid, of course.
While I ain't playing that game mode unless it is overhauled... Based on comments that multiple people are in the same game, I definitely think some sort of consecutive game cap such as the one Stars has would help.
Take out this fucking rotation. Randomize
It fucking sucks.
Now that people have a desire to play.. we won't ever be able to play because it's a click race to get in.
In its current state..... the same people join every single available frookies. On a website with hundreds of active users, there’s probably like 50 people who are playing for professional frookies league, it’s the same game every time with slight variants.
Something is going to have to change soon, whether it be two frookies filling at a time when it’s frookies turn in the rotation, or just the removal of frookies all together
