The Tengaged Experience - what exactly is it?

Nov 27, 2010 by Philomena
Tengaged is just one of zillions of free multi-player browser game websites. We have somehow found this site, and how much we get out of it is correlated with how much we put in. In general, the more time you spend in a browser game, the faster you will progress. But we generally do not have that much time, and have to decide how much time (and often money too) is worth committing.

So, what is Tengaged supposed to be all about? One opens an account and plays games whenever desired. The more games played, the more karma and money the player is likely to gain. Skill is needed, and in this particular case diplomacy too, as after all we need the support of other players to survive.

What people hope to gain from Tengaged depends on the individual. People with less time might play for fun and not mind too much if they get average results. A lot depends on how much internet access one gets per day after all, but during the days before quick games, there was a low limit on how many games one could play, since each game took roughly a week. By spending more time in a limited number of games, there is more scope for interaction, which is what this website should be all about.

But others are more interested in advancing quickly at all costs. Duel arrived, then new Rookies and Casting, making a mockery of the traditional slow games. Quick games appeal to those whose previously suppressed insane urge to play many of them to advance quickly has been released. Now it is impossible to pretend that Tengaged is simulating reality TV when interaction is barely possible. Some people have managed to play a ridiculously large number of quick games. That time would be better spent looking around the internet for a broader variety of games to play, rather than doing the same old thing.

When Tengaged has no longer anything interesting to offer, people eventually leave. With each change, some people lose something that they like while others play too much and simply tire themselves out. After all, with so many choices, we can always withdraw from a browser game when we get tired of it, and play another.

So much for discussing what people in general hope to gain from a browser game. I can only really speak for myself. Being a Survivor fan, I was naturally attracted to Tengaged. Like in most websites, one can communicate with other people through mail messages. But when playing a game, we can even chat with people - which is not so common elsewhere. The potential for some kind of virtual social life through chatting is certainly quite high. So Tengaged is more social than most other browser games, and that was something I was looking for when I arrived.

Playing games takes time, and because I played the old Casting with the intention of winning, I got good results but it was quite tiring. I preferred playing less and doing well rather than playing more and progressing faster, but with inferior results. This would mean ensuring I would have some time to commit to a game to watch for keys, and I could not do this too often.

To be honest, the games have never been ideal in their new or old form. Those who desire a Big Brother or Survivor experience would be disappointed. To me, the games - quick or slow - are no longer much of an attraction. I see my chances of doing well in anything other than old Casting as rather low, and also I have found two other online games that take up my time. Why stick only to Tengaged at the expense of trying out other browser games?

Fortunately, games are not everything. There is still much else to do here. I still have friends whom I mail occasionally, and more importantly, there is plenty of scope for writing the occasional blog when I have the inspiration. This feature is not available in other online games, and whether or not Tengaged games are appealing, blogging is still possible. Unfortunately some people have overdone their blogging by posting tons of rubbish, and probably got bored of it.

Playing too many games and writing too many poor quality blogs seem to have eventually led to burnout for some people, as they quickly got tired of it. To avoid this, I have refrained from playing too much, and write blogs only when I have the inspiration to write something worthwhile. That should keep me around for a while, even when I'm not playing. In the meantime, I can only dream of that elusive proper Survivor / Big Brother experience.
