Survivor Redemption Island Episode 12: Counter and Counter Counter

May 7, 2011 by Philomena
Finally, the moment had arrived, after many weeks of waiting. The six members of Ometepe had been together as a tribe against the opposition, and having survived, they reached the merge unscathed. Even after that, they stayed intact, voting out all the ex-Zapatera people. And finally it was time for one of them to go.

The person who was due to go was Andrea. There was no problem in voting her out. All Rob had to do was mention Matt's name and the possibility of him coming back into the game and voting with her. It was that simple. No one had a problem with this, as long as it was not them.

At this stage, even though the tribe had definitively decided to vote Andrea out, Phillip returned to his old ways, apparently strategically. He brought the tribe back to the old Ometepe days when he found fault with a lot of things around camp. Phillip's behaviour was so annoying that Rob actually considered voting him out instead. In fact, both Phillip and Rob had now stepped up their game a little. Phillip figured out that Rob wanted to take him all the way because he thought it would be easier to win the jury's vote against him. He did not mind that, and felt he could say the appropriate things to the jury if necessary. But Rob in turn wondered if that was exactly what Phillip was thinking. If so, he could consider voting him out.

Everything was decided before tribal council, and even though Phillip spouted his usual nonsense, he was spared yet again. Andrea was blindsided, of course. Nothing terribly surprising, and no reason not to. They might as well have let her think they were voting Phillip out so that she would not try to save herself.

Until now, no one has figured out that Rob is the real threat. They have no problem with him pulling the strings, as after most think they can prosper with him. Grant, Natalie, and Phillip all think they are going to the final with him, while Ashley is not burdened by this delusion. As Rob said, all they have to do is talk to each other to find out the truth. Still, Grant, Natalie, and Phillip all have a good chance since they cannot all be eliminated. Next time round, Natalie and Ashley would want to vote Phillip out. Can Rob continue to prop him up? It depends on whether he thinks Phillip wants to outplay him and who Grant votes for.

The poor producers will be upset that it's been boring. They thought it would be more exciting with Rob and Russell in it, plus a Redemption Island theme.

I think Rob deserves to win if he gets to the final 2 or 3. He's done a lot for his tribe, played the game better than anyone else, and as long as people prefer to lose to a good player, he's the only sensible vote.
