This is an interesting season since it has a good mix of the best and worst seasond in RPDR history, so lets get to it.
13. Venus Vs. Shangela (The Right Stuff) - Oh fuck. Even though someone gets picked up a couple episodes later, this is without a doubt the most violent lip sync to happen on drag race and it was the first one of the season! Venus went ham on Shangela and it was extremely hard to follow what was happening. Also, dont throw your fucking ponytail to the back stage. It was funny watching Mimi cower with Raja though as Venus did that. Could have easily been the first double elimination ever.
12. Mariah Vs. Delta (Looking for a New Love) - This is such a boring lip sync that I cant even tell you what happens except Mariah didnt know the words. There is nothing really else to it.
11. Pheonix Vs. Delta (Bad Romance) - Now I dont hate Delta I think she is very funny and definitely deserving of that emmy. However, gurl she cant lip sync well. She did better than Pheonix but that really wasnt a contest. The only reason I have a faint recollection of this lip sync is because of the song so...yeah
10. Manila Vs. Raja (Champion) - I dont exactly hate this lip sync, its not bad at all but it isnt great either especially for a final lip sync when they should put their all into it. Manila doing a poor robot and Raja only walking around the stage was just eh (Get ready for the hypocrisy when I say Ravens robot was great in All Stars). At least this was a fantastic final 2 though, I love both queens.
9. India Vs. Stacy (Meeting in the Ladies Room) - Its just another boring lip sync. India does weird facial expressions when she lip syncs and slow movements. Stacy i think did something funny? Idk I cant remember it much.
8. Shangela Vs. Carmen (Believe) - Oh boy, Shangela did alright I guess. Her insane fast death drop shook me ans michelle very vocally but other than that, eh. It always looks like Carmen is stuck in resting bitch face especially when she lip syncs so...choices.
7. Alexis Vs. Yara (I Think About You) - The lip syncs from now on I enjoy alot in different ways. In this one, I felt hard for Yara. The 4th design challenge of the season and a 2nd ball just an episode after the last one, they worked extremely hard to make what they had. Watching her collapse and breakdown broke my heart to see that. Aside from that, Alexis did ok and thats why its 7.
6. Carmen Vs. Yara (Mickey: Spanish Version) - Idk why they chose to have a spanish version on a very american song for a very american challenge theme but whatever I guess. Its not a lip sync to ride home about but I do applaud Carmen for getting every word right and competing right there with Yara. What I didnt like about Carmen was that she went off the stage and demanded attention. Yara did ok I guess, it wasnt worth a double shantay but oh well, its still pretty interesting to watch.
5. Alexis Vs. Stacy (Knock On Wood) - This was the transitioning period into shitty lip syncs to great ones for the rest of the season. Alexis looked like she was having a blast going around the stage and I really liked her performance. Stacy on the other hand, eh. You dont have to be a dancer to have energy, especially on a high energy song but it was funny watching her throw away her hair peices and then a second later they would reappear on her head. Overall though its a very fun lip sync especially from Alexis.
4. Alexis Vs. Shangela (Even Angels) - This is a beautiful song like Manila said and Alexis changed her energy and really captured that emotion. This is another lip sync I find a bit underrated maybe because of how slow or kind of tame it is now but emotion carries a lifetime and Alexis did it. Shangela tried and I applaud her for that but it was definitely her time to go and then she took off her wig? Idk that was weird editing at the end. Alexis though...damn!
3. Mimi Vs. India (Dont Leave Me This Way) - Now before I get judged, this is a bad lip sync and messy as hell. However, that is why I like it. Its iconic, controversial and exactly what was needed for future drag race lip syncs. Plus, both of them lip sync'd exactly to their personalities. Mimi was the attention stealer and India was frantic but in a weird boring way but it was still entertaining? Idk, once India got picked up WWE style and uttered "GET HER OFF OF ME!!!!" It was chaotic between indias wig on the lights in the back and then she summersaulted twice and then flailed her boobs around, I was shook! Cant be forgotten and wont ever be.
-----These next 2 lip syncs I will say are both in my top 5 of all time ngl-----
2. Delta Vs. Manila (Macarthur Park) - Oh my god Miss Manila Luzon crazy eyeing her way to the top 2 having the most interesting of songs play with it. From the slow start that was graceful af then to the insane laughter part and just gets weirder and weirder. I also found it extremely funny how they edited the song to where Manila did the 2nd laughter scream part but they changed the part of the song to something else, that was hilarious. But as Alexis said, Manila was broadway. Oh and Delta was there with her bracelet cake thing.
1. Carmen Vs. Raja (Straight Up) - Ohhhhhhh fuck this is the sexiest lip sync ever and nothing will change that. Where Mimi solidified that drag is not a contact sport, Raja made sure that consensual contact was a ok! What I really like about the whole ordeal was that while they were one-upping each other, they still had fun with what they were doing and in a way worked together to bring amazingness. I could talk about this lip sync for hours cause there is always something new to learn from it. Crazy, hot, and brought everything I thought I didnt need but really did.
10. Raven Vs. Mystique (I Hear You Knocking) - It was sooo boring but the sad thing is I cant really see this lip sync being better than it was. Country is a very hard genre to do in a lip sync because theres emotion in the lyrics but not how they are said. So for that reason, last it goes
9. Jessica Vs. Tatianna (He's the Greatest Dancer) - Now every lip sync at this point is actually not really bad. This one has its moments, Jessica giving her life to disco and going crazy while forgetting a few lyrics and Tatianna taking a slower approach. Compared to the rest of the season its ok and I think the decision was accurate.
8. Jujubee Vs. Pandora (Shake Your Love) - I love Jujubee alot, shes a powerhouse when it comes to lip syncing so why is it so low? I just think its eh and her weakest lip sync but even in her weakest she can prove to be great and provide variety to this fun pop song. Pandora was just kind of there as is alot of people who go up against Juju. I just like the other lip syncs more.
7. Jujubee Vs. Tatianna (Something He Can Feel) - Jujubee of course brought it again with her soul and shun bright. I dont have anything negative for her here cause she did really well. Tatianna however (I love her) was a mess and it was just as entertaining but it just brings it down a little lower. At least she was living for Jujubee too so thats funny.
6. Shangela Vs. Sahara (Cover Girl) - Oooo fuck this was messy as hell but I loved every moment of it. Once Shangela ripped her skirt off it became as Sonique said: Mortal Kombat. Hair peices went flying, Sahara jumped into a split that looked like it hurt and Shangela was doing her fast af death drops right from the start of her drag career. I was completely sstisfied as an opener lip sync but every lip sync after this has a bigger effect.
5. Tyra Vs. Raven (Jealous of My Boogie) - The final RuPaul songs they lip sync too at the end of the season tend to be very bad but this one I liked alot. I preferred Ravens sex appeal to the song than to Tyra's beyonce moves but I guess it wasnt mutual. The only thing I didnt like about it was Tyra going up to the judges and demanding the attention. Im not a fan when people do that cause it pleads desperation more than anything. Aside from that a very enjoyable lip sync with a cool death drop/split from both of them at the end.
4. Morgan Vs. Sahara (Carry On) - I love the way Morgan lip syncs, shes extremely elegant and provides a calm but paced manor and really nails the words. Sahara on the other hand brought swan lake into this shit and of course her iconic trendsetter for the davenports by jumping off the stage easily secured her win which I was ok with cause Morgan leaving really fueled Ravens fire to do better so satisfied.
3. Raven Vs. Nicole (My Lovin') - Nicole was "Never gonna get it, never gonna get it". Raven just provided 90's girl group with sass everywhere and she predicted alot of the outcome as she pointed to everyone during the breakdown part. Its a rather tame lip sync compared to modern standards but I still appreciate the art of it very much. Plus I am a huge Raven stan.
2. Sahara Vs. Jujubee (Black Velvet) - Most people I assume have this at number 1 and for great reason. Without a doubt Jujubees best lip sync in both seasons shes competed in and she did this while allegedly drunk. Thats iconic. I think the song was perfect to how she was feeling as this was her challenge to win but lost it. I have it as number 2 because of how Sahara repeats her dances. Its not a major fault but I feel number 1 was a great lip sync on both ends. That doesnt take away Jujubees prowess though because she killed it.
1. Morgan Vs. Sonique (Two of Hearts) - They both did very different styles to this lip sync and both could have easily won a double shantay had this been a later season lip sync. Morgan didnt miss a single beat or word while Sonique the gymnist worked her ass off moving and flipping and splitting basically everywhere. While the song is eh, the lip sync is a powerhouse and one I feel to be very underrated in drag race.
Overall, this is a season where alot of the lip syncs werent bad but not as memorable aside from a couple.
Spoilers but this season came out in 2009 so like...bruh
7. Victoria Vs. Akashia (Supermodel) - Uhhh, it was just no. Akashia barely knew the words and Victoria was falling all over the place. For the first lip sync ever its eh.
6. Shannel Vs. Rebecca (Shackles) - I dont really remember anything from this. It was just pretty boring and really thats all to it. Rebecca shouldnt have even been in the top 4 so still salty Shannel left at that time.
5. Bebe Vs. Nina (Cover Girl) - It wasnt bad, it was just manic. Between Nina with her circle arms and then Bebe going under Ninas dress, I was like "ooo shit so no one wins?". I do like them both though but I find season 2s lip sync to this song much more entertaining.
4. Tammie Vs. Akashia (We Break the Dawn) - I like this lip sync probably more than others and find it a bit underrated. Its not really good but I love Tammies protest by not lip syncing (they literally forced a redo lip sync cause she wouldnt move either) and Akashia did turn it out.
3. Rebecca Vs. Jade (Would I Lie to You?) - Jade killed it, I was completely shook Rebecca won after she basically assaulted her on stage. Aside from that though it was an interesting song and Jade killed it. First split on the show and she went all motorbike on them.
2. Shannel Vs Akashia (Greatest Love of All) - Both did a really good job capturing the emotion and of course Shannel with her weird ass headpiece intentionally dropping it and securing her win. Whitney Houston is a great artist for lip syncs because it can be captured very well and this for a first season is one of her bests.
1. Bebe Vs. Ongina (Stronger) - If only a double shantay was put in place for these two. They both took such a different approach to the song and did it very well. It sucked Ongina lost because she would have won the season and been a great first winner (no shade to Bebe) but at least we can rejoice in how great this lip sync was. Messy, fun and sad at the same time.
Side note: Stronger just started playing in my playlist just as I was writing number 1 lmao!
