I dont really know what to say I just gotta roll with it and move on. Here are the critiques:
turkeylover - Paris Is Burning (1990) - I can't lie, when I saw this submission I was really disappointed because I had really high hopes for like a documentary that would be different to what I should have expected. That was how I felt until I actually watched the documentary which I unfortunately have yet to see until this point. This is extremely investing and still relevant to this day. It has so much quotable moments but also is very respectful of the culture and the Cinematography is really good! For how low of a budget it was im surprised it looks so good. Its also just really cool to see what the culture was back in the 80s. Aside from basically all the prejudice and AIDS and murders and stuff it looks like a good time but also a powerful time. Watching but also researching alot of these queens was very depressing considering a majority of them have passed (and way too soon may I add especially Venus. That was fucked up). I must say this was a very investing film and it brought alot of insight to me on gay culture back in the day which I appreciate!
PennyTrationStan - I Am Not Your Negro (2016) - Oh my god not the actual footage of Malcolm X's dead body jesus! This is a remarkably powerful doc. Its really just "here are the receipts" and its presented in such a calm way delivered perfectly by Samuel L. Jackson. Its such a sad tale that just doesnt wanna end. Honestly i dont have much to say because I dont really know what to say about it. The movie speaks for itself. The stories and media footage and everything else speaks for itself.
This is a heartbreaking decision. I dont wanna eliminate either of you especially because you both have submitted stellar movies and in the end this is coming down to the wire. If there was a shante you both stay moment it would be this but this game has gone on for so long Im not dragging it out.
