New's Movie Taste: All Stars - ROUND 7 (RESULTS)

Sep 3, 2022 by NewNightmare7
Hey y'all! Tried to get this one done as fast as possible.

Ok here are the critiques:

JayElVeeIsBack - Matilda (1996) - I genuinely with all my heart love Matilda I straight up think its one of my all time favourite movies. Like it is incredibly iconic and has so many amazing moments. Danny DeVito fucking directed the shit of this movie and Mara Wilson was the perfect casting for Matilda. I don't think there is really 1 bad casting choice among the main cast. DeVito is perfect, Rhea Pearlman is perfect, Embeth Davidtz is perfect, Pam Ferris is a fucking legend as Miss Trunchbull. The score is perfect. The needle drops are perfect. The tone is perfect. The pace is literal perfection. Like I could gush forever about this movie I love it to death.

Symmetry888 - The Princess Diaries (2001) - That ADR of "Cover the Tuba!" Made me laugh so much omg. Anyways, I love Anne Hathaway! She is such a delight and an amazing actress I love her. Julie Andrews is also so charming and alot of fun in this movie. Like you'd expect her to be a prude and stuck up but no shes really sweet and understanding. I hate the tabloid part of this movie but it is accurate. Its so uncomfortable to see especially because of how often shit like that happens (it immediately made me think of Princess Diana). But regardless, the movie is really well acted and performed. The pace can slog a little bit but its really the two actresses that just carry this movie so far and I really enjoyed it!

austino15fffan - The Sandlot (1993) - This is one im actually really surprised I haven't seen. It has always been praised but I finally get to watch it! This poor child. Literally watching him struggle and seeing the other kids just constantly mock him is sad and kind of cringe but whatever. Some of this kid acting is also horrible but irs funny to watch at least! Some of the acting is really good. Scotty, Ham and Kenny are definitely the standouts for me. I feel like this movie relies on nostalgia and maybe im just a little too old for it like its cool to see kids just be dumb and have fun but also I'm not necessarily invested as I feel like I could be. But it is a competently made and executed movie and the kids carry it well, I just probably wouldnt revisit it)

turkeylover - Aquamarine (2006) - I love Emma Roberts. I know she ain't some peoples vibes but I absolutely stan. Especially her AHS roles they are so iconic (and Scre4m/Scream Queens obvi). This movie has so much feet oh my god I can't its too much. Did Dan Schneider write this or something? Anyways, I dont really think I was vibing with this movie. I don't really find these kind of movies my thing. The cast is good (particularily the main 3) and there was 1 joke that made me laugh very hard I can't lie ("or skin cancer...I don't smoke) but I think overall its just kind of boring and long. I don't have much else to say about it I guess.

nateclove - Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004) - These poor children oh my god. Im also so shook that Meryl Streep just pops up in this movie. Quite iconic of her. I can't lie I was not on board for this movie. I thought it was tonally weird, the imagery wasn't good (imo) and I just wasn't invested but something ended up clicking for me and I really enjoyed it! This movie lives and dies by Jim Carrey's performance and he sells it hard. His physical acting is kind of unmatched but I have alot of respect for Emily Browning in this movie. She is phenomenal. I think it got really investing for me when he started to try to kill them. If the tone was different this could have been a horror movie but i think overall its entertaining and i wouldnt be opposed to watch it again.

CarolinaSteele - Charlotte's Web (2006) - This round made me notice that so many kids movies have narration in them! As im watching im trying to figure out why and my conclusion is to give the illusion of a story book being presented to you (especially since most of these narrations are coming from adaptations). Anyways, Dakota Fanning is so iconic. I wish she was in more stuff recently she is so good. Her and Elle are just yas. Watching this movie I just can't get over the voice acting. Oprah, Julia Roberts, Kathy Bates, Steve Buscemi its definitely something else. I vibe with it. Also I was doimg research and found that the voice actor for Wilbur didnt make it through Blind Auditions of The Voice and I was like aww thats sad. This movie captured exactly what I was looking for in this round. Something light hearted with weight and investment and you killed it. I really liked this movie it was very entertaining while not talking down to you which is something I hate about kids movies. I also loved the score. I was gonna write that it had a Danny Elfman quality to it but then I found out it was actually Danny Elfman and I was like "oh makes sense". Its beautiful. And omg I was not expecting to get emotional towards the end but damn it got me. Amazing choice what a slay.

PennyTrationStan - Ever After (1998) - I love Drew Barrymore so much. She is forever iconic and a treasure. I can't lie though I don't like period piece movies. I find them to be extremely slow and boring.  And despite the amazing themes and performances from Drew and Angelica Huston, I just found this movie to be boring. Its well made and well told but I've just never vibed with it sadly. This wasn't what I was looking for I guess when I had this round in mind :( I will say though that when Drew punched that bitch in the face I was quite thrilled. That was amazing.

In probably the most shocking bottom 2 of the season, you are up for elimination. Love you both smsmsmsmsm.

For the elimination round I want you to submit a documentary. I was planning for this to be the final 5 round but I rather do it now. They dont get alot of credit for its artistic value to cinema so yas.

Good luck besties <3
