New's Music Taste - WEEK 12 (RESULTS)

Dec 30, 2020 by NewNightmare7
Welcome back to New's Music Taste! I had the worst time judging this round cause I sincerely dont wanna eliminate anyone. You all have killed this competition and I feel so horrible having to eliminate one of you but it has to happen to keep the competition going and there can only be one winner.

Here are my comments:

Rubes:

"Won't He Do It" by Koryn Hawthorne - Ooo I really like this song. This girl can sing. Got the rasp but got the belts and I was here for that. What a different feel to gospel music I have heard and I was on board. How does it contrast to your next pick?

"Body" by Megan Thee Stallion - Well i'm not gonna lie, before listening to the songs I was concerned because at a first glance they dont seem too contrasting...then I heard this song and it definitely has such a different feel lyrically. Yeah don't play this song at church unless we worshipping queens. The song doesn't appeal to me all that much but i'll put it on for friends for sure. I also do feel you could have gone a little more outside the box for the diversity but you took a different approach so respect.

tbrown_47:

"Litost" by X Ambassadors - This was very interesting. It's got a sorrow vibe and those orchestral instruments compiled with his harmonies near the end were like "ooh damn right in the feels". I enjoyed this it was a solid pick for sure! How does it contrast to the next pick?

"I'm Coming Out" by Diana Ross - Well it does contrast pretty well. This song is very light hearted and just a really fun time. Groovy ass bass indicates a hell yeah good time from me. I was surprised no one sent Diana Ross in the Disco round but shes getting her chance to shine here and im down for it.

Becksta20:

"The Beautiful People" by Marilyn Manson - FUCK YES!!!! I am a huge Marilyn Manson fan! I listen to his albums alot and always find something to really enjoy about him and this was the song that got me into him about 7 years ago so yay! I just love everything about it. The slick drums, the bass line and the amazing chorus! Some of my friends who dont even like Marilyn Manson or that kind of rock love this song so it says alot. How does it contrast to your next song?

"Fast Car" by Tracy Chapman - Well its much slower thats for sure. The best way to describe this song is subtle compared to the last one and I like it but I don't know if I love it. To be honest I don't think I would revisit this cause it doesn't bring out much appeal to me unfortunately. However the contrast is very apparent and overall this was a really good job well done!

ILoveLarry

"Sunny" by Boney M. - I've only really heard one Boney M. song which was "Rasputin" and this is very different vocally from Rasputin but this was groovy and pretty happy! I dug it for sure. The bass line slaps and the strings are alot of fun and omg that key change! Yes please. I love Key changes! Does it contrast with your next pick though?

"Blown Away" by Carrie Underwood - Hmm...it's hard to find the contrast at least from my ears it was. I can definitely see the differences lyrically as this song has a much more darker expression but I find it hard to see the contrast sonically. They're two different genres and keys but it feels a little linked. They both sound happy and maybe thats not what I was supposed to take from this but I did. As a song, it's fine! Its not traditional country so I'm down for it. Together, this is a very tough one to judge cause I feel there could have been more contrasting peices to choose from.

useamint:

"Empire State of Mind" by Jay Z ft. Alicia Keys - This came out in 2009? I thought it came out in like 2003 or something damn! Anyways, the song is a bop. The chorus sticks like a wet dream tomato and Jay-Z's flow is really nice even if some of the lyrics are a little dated but whatever, it's a tribute to New York's life so yeah! Great song but how does it contrast to your next song?

"All Signs Point to Lauderdale" by A Day to Remember - I like how you chose songs with locations in mind and how different they are. On top of that, the sound is extremely different and this song kind of slaps! I like this kind of music and im glad its getting appreciation this time around. I really do think you nailed the theme because everything was different and both songs are pretty damn good! Great job!

Christian_:

"All the Things She Said" by t.A.T.u - So I found this song when I was like 13 cause Watchmojo did a top 10 most controversial music videos and this was on it cause two girls were making out. What an interesting controversy but 2001 was a time I guess! Anyways, this song is great and im always down to hear it. Its unfortunate knowing now what the group was about and what the creator was trying to do cause its pretty perverted but that is not gonna take away from how great this song is. Anyways, how does it contrast to your next pick?

"Where the Wild Roses Grow" by Nick Cave & Kylie Minogue - Your explination was very concerning because it ended up defining both songs together with both songs being about forbidden love. While yes, both approaches are different it comes together in the end and it misses the mark just a little bit. However, contrasting songs are very subjective and sonically, these songs are very different so there is that. As a song, I definitely appreciate the story and it has elements I found beautiful but I think overall, I would pass on a replay.

AND THE WINNER OF WEEK 12 IS...

useamint! Congratulations! Both songs were very enjoyable and you deserve the win!

tbrown_47 will receieve a HIGH placement!
