I was attacked by a man who I'm guessing was mentally unwell when playing Pokemon GO this morning. (Inb4 people tell me that is what I deserve for playing Pokemon Go).
It's community day today and I was just going to play for an hour or so. When I got to town, there was this commotion. This man was screaming and hollering at this couple who were also playing Pokemon Go. The couple included a pregnant lady as well.
He was screaming at her and was saying she was killing her baby because she was playing Pokemon Go. The man then turned on me and another passerby who was playing the game. The pregnant lady tried to move away and he wouldn't let her walk away.
So I decided I would stand between her and him. Pokemon Go Community united! :p He was just screaming and shouting. By this time the lady's husband was calling the police and so was the other girl. At this point he gets out his phone and calls the police as well. His conversation with the police from what I heard...
Him: It's me again.
....
Him: I have another group of Pokemon Go users. They need to get the f#%# out of ______
....
Him: What do you mean you don't know who I am, it's me!
So he finishes his conversation and he starts screaming at me calling me names. Including homophobic slurs. All I'm saying to him at this point is that we have the right to play the game and the police is coming and that he was upsetting the pregnant lady (who was crying). :S
I stupidly said 'Do you need us to call you an ambulance?' as he was highly distressed and clearly unwell and (you'll like this one BengalBoy) he replied "Yeah I effing do cos I'm going to knock you out!" so he charges at me and swings at me, I dodge in time and he hits me on the chest rather than face.
Luckily by this point I recruit other Pokemon Go players who form a circle around us and we walk away (he did try and attack me again). He walks away after that saying that he punched the 'living devil' or something like that and that I was the one to upset the pregnant lady before telling her to shove Pokemon up her bum to scratch/cut the baby. :s
The police came and took statements and they said they were following him on the cameras etc. So hopefully they have found him and will be able to get him the help he needs.
Tagging Fellow Pokemon Go players and my Tengaged family to fuss over me :p
gosh, you were lucky star, could have been a lot worse!! will you get a follow up from the police? sounds like he needs help, probably off his meds, but so long as you are okay.
that pokemon go thing, mini bibs was into it a couple of years ago, we went to norway, and had to wait for the hotel, as we were early, so hubby and mini bibs played it for a while, and hubby got hooked, i was a pokemon go widow for 2 weeks while he was more interest in catching everything, rather than looking at the sights!!
Bibbles - They said they will phone me with a follow-up. I just want him to get help, cos he could have easily have punched the pregnant lady instead. So whatever option they say will get him help I will go with. :)
it could have been so much worse, you hear such horrible stories these days of people with problems doing horrible things. hope youre right Catch_a_falling_star and he gets help so that he doesnt do it again!
Fighterman - Got my priorities in order. Ain't nobody gonna stop me from gifting you haha. :p I did want to go home, but luckily some people invited me to be in their group and that was nice. :)
joe1110 - Hundreds play on the community days. Literally hundreds in the town I frequent. :p Normall you may get one or two but the special events are different. :)
Yikes, sorry to hear about this! Well done done for defending the pregnant lady and putting yourself at risk, you're clearly an awesome and brave person. :)
Aidan0621 - Well you would find it harder to believe that I attended raids with over 50 Pokemon Go players yesterday. :) Just because you have no knowledge of something doesn't mean it didn't happen. :D If you go an type Pokemon Go into Google you will find out how large our community is. :) You tried.
Him: It's me again.
