An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama’s socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer.
The professor then said, “OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama’s plan”. All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A…. (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all).
After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little..
The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F. As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. It could not be any simpler than that.
Remember, there IS a test coming up. The 2012 elections.
These are possibly the 5 best sentences you’ll ever read and all applicable to this experiment:
1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.

5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.
Personally when I read this, I think it's being taken out of context. Yes, economics is the study of human behaviors and money/goods&services, but I feel this whole thing is being taken out of context.
I think the only aspect of where the system is flawed is based on human behavior, and not necessarily on how money is divided.
If you look at the development of economics over time, you can see how the idea of income inequality comes in the middle stage of how economies have been and are developing. It's based on Kuznets curve, fun topic :)
I think it's been proven over time that the answer lies within capitalism and communism, but since that's too large of a grey zone, people will never agree on one way, as you can never please everyone (Economics 101)
umm yea idk much about american politics but i dont beleive obama wants the states to go into TRUE socialism (aka communision)
i THINK the just wants it to be more of a middle ground between capitalism and socialism
so that the HUGE companies dont neccessarly control the economy and politics
and before u try and diss socialism u shud look at countries like Norway, Finland, and Sweden who r more of a socialist country and have some of the best living standards in the world: free health care, free university education, some of the best regarding enviromental issues and the HAPPIEST (this countries i BELEIVE have some of the lowest crime rates)

Sweden has had Socialism as its politics for over 50 years now and it's been working. It's not that everyone gets the same it's just that the wealthier gets alittle less to let the ones who get nothing out. Ofcourse when you do not work or anything you get as little money as possible so ultimately you do want to work hard to get that money.

This argument is basically about extremes, where I truly don't believe that the US (or Canada) will ever go to a capitalist or communist extreme. Any extreme arguments aren't valid here, as none of the questions asked will help conclude the present discussion in here (sun).
All those poor bitches who get free rides need to be shipped to Canada. People who work for their money get it taken away and people who don't get it given to them. We went to college to succeed while the ones in "poverty" sold dope and sat on their asses all day.
Ok, but being the president of a world power has to do something to make a situation the best for the most people. no matter what he does, there will be someone that is not happy. and that goes for anyone who holds this position. obama inherited a shitty hand to play and he is trying to dig the usa out of a giant pile of shit. newt gingrich, who is currently in the lead of the republican primaries, will make even more people mad. and he's a giant hypocrite. so when it comes to politics, its choosing the lesser of the evils. thats why you all get the power to make your voice heard.
I agree with zimdelinvasor. That kind of experiment is more like Communism. Plus, the Obama administration hasn't attempted even close to the level of communism that you were talking about.

this is a very one sided argument. I don't know much about politics, so this does initially seem like a good argument to me, but I'd definitely need to hear both sides.

Plus, Obama is better then someone who doesn't believe in evolution or the big bang theory. I seriously don't want someone who doesn't believe in that running one of the most powerful countries in the world. The thing about science is that, even if you don't believe in it, it still exists, and it's still going to advance.
Obama was a great president, he was just fucked over w/ what George Bush left him.
Skiitles I'm not a huge Obama fan (primarily because of how he promised to close down Guantanamo and all that shit, but instead he signed the NDAA; he's also really waffled around the issue of same-sex marriage), but if people are going to dislike him, then it should at least be for a legitimate reason which nothing in this blog is.

This is so subjective. I am not a socialist or communist but I deeply believe that socialism, communism, capitalism and w/e else, if we use them right, then they can all work out perfectly! There is a bad use of them all too as well....So don't be scared of the idea that someone wants to turn USA into a socialistic country. If the president really cares about his country, then this should have good results for his country.
Grades aren't even kind of a fair substitute for money in this case. This would imply that someone's wealth is a direct reflection of how much effort they put in to their jobs. The problem being that you have people working all day for minimum wage, who just barely get by, as well as millionaires who simply inherited their fortunes (think Paris Hilton).
Also, anyone arguing "Obama sucks" or "he's had 4 years and he's failed". It's incredibly difficult to accomplish anything when you have a divided house/senate, or a congressional majority that differs from the party the president identifies with. Bi-partisan politics is a broken system, but everyone just blames the president when they don't like the way things are going. Why don't you try to call your representatives and see their stance on an issue for a change?
