Sebastian hails from the East of District 3, an area that is notorious for a high crime rate, and low life expectancy. When he was just four, both of his parents were arrested after a robbery, meaning Sebastian was forced to go into the District's foster care system. As you can imagine, this was absolutely brilliant, with Sebastian being abused at the vast majority of homes he went to. His mother was eventually let out of prison five years later, and Sebastian went back to her, who he still currently lives with
When Sebastian's name was called at the reaping, he seemed to act cool but many noted he seemed to be freaking out under the surface. In his final speech, he stated that he was hoping to win and that District 3 would finally get a winner after three years in a row of getting close
Nobody really knows where Johanna comes from. She was "One of the babies that dropped out of the sky" in the District during the years after the failed rebellion. Johanna got into a street gang a couple of years ago, where she wasn't respected but fitted in. The gang was later busted dealing drugs, however, Johanna was one of the few that escaped
Due to there being a reward for her arrest, Johanna famously turned up to the reaping wrapped in tin foil. She walked straight up onto the stage before even the opening speech and declared herself a volunteer. She was told to sit down until the reaping, but when the mayor picked a name out of the female reaping bowl, it was coincidently Johanna's! In her final speech, she stated she wished the Peacekeepers luck in finding her fellow gangmates, then was led away
Claritin's parents are originally from the capital but live in District 4. This should mean Claritin is immune from the reaping, however, if he was to volunteer, he could still go into the games. It was noted from a young age that he was a fan of the games, having the entire collection from the very first in his bedroom. He often re-watches his favourites, including the 29th, 55th, 75th and 93rd. He stated he always wanted to be apart of the games, much to his parent's horror. He frequently trained with some school friends, who were District 4 natives, after school. He ultimately decided to volunteer
His parents desperately tried to get him pulled from the list, but he was locked in to participate in the selection. He got through the early game in the middle of the pack, clearly having some trouble as the competition went on. He ended up outlasting all of his friends all the way to the Top 5: The Fear Round, which he seemingly struggled through, but still made it. In the finale, it was noted his parents were terrified in the VIP booth, meanwhile the other parents cheered their kids on. Despite only being 2nd in the betting odds at this stage, Claritin still won right at the end. In his final speech, he stated that this was his choice and that he was fine dying in the games, as long as he contributed to the entertainment of others. He was later diagnosed with a Psychosis the night before the games
Silvermist comes from one of the islands off the coast of District 4, famously nearby to where the previous games had been filmed. Silvermist later stated that she could see the force field from her house, and in an areal shot of the arena, her island could be seen just in the Distance. Training on these islands wasn't a big thing, with many being perfectly content with being fisherpeople, but Silvermist always seemed to have an itching desire to leave the island, often taking the overnight ferry to the mainland to train in private for the games
Silvermist got the support of her island when she was revealed to be on the list of participants but was still low in the betting odds as she didn't attend a formal academy. Still, she showed potential, scraping into the live television shows. She still wasn't a major contender, never reaching the top but always staying far from the bottom. Ultimately, she got all the way to the Final 5, where her first major problem happened. The Fear round seemingly really rattled her, as she barely qualified, two seconds between her and the girl in 4th, thus eliminated. In the final, Silvermist was at the bottom of the betting odds, however, the strongest contestant, Krill, broke her leg in the gauntlet, meanwhile, Marina, her other opponent, had some serious trouble passing the 7th obstacle in the gauntlet: the navigation segment. This ultimately led Silvermist to win the selection, and thus, a spot in the Hunger Games
