The hourglass twist is upon us…sigh… This ranking could go any which way, so I’m just ranking them all based on how well acquainted they are in the game, how much protection they have, and what their threat level is.
12. Jonathan Young- Jonathan will win whatever team challenge is coming. Which means whoever smashes that hourglass will prevent him from being safe. Which means, unless Maryanne sacrifices an idol on him, I don’t see how Jonathan makes it out of this tribal safe. If he does, I’ll be super impressed, but I just don’t see anyone not seizing that opportunity, sadly. He’s been such a focal point, but the most recent episodes have given us a bit of a negative tinge toward Jonathan, which also leads me to believe they may be setting up a downfall sooner rather than later.
11. Chanelle Howell- Chanelle is such a wild card, I have no choice to put her down here. She seems to want to work with Mike, Hai, and Lydia, but she also voted for Mike which could ostracize her again. It’s so hard to gauge where Chanelle fits in with this group. I can’t really see her being anyone’s #1 target, especially if the green tribe wants the numbers, but at the same time, I can’t help but feel like she’s completely on the outs all at once. And Omar will be upset when he finds out she cost him of his vote.
10. Rocksroy Bailey- Rocksroy could go one of two ways. One, he could be the easy vote since he really doesn’t seem to have ANYONE on his side. Or, because he is so alone, he may be seen as valuable to someone else. The only reason I’m particularly worried about Rocksroy is that Tori is so clearly gunning for him, and I do think she’ll have lots of pull to get him out. Thus, Rocksroy is lower here.
9. Lindsay Dolashewich- Lindsay and Hai (and Drea, though she has more protection) have the amulets, which almost put a bounty on their heads. If one of them goes, the power of the amulets becomes greater. If two of them go, the amulet becomes an idol. I could definitely see Lindsay, Hai, and Drea being targeted because of that. The other bonus to getting Lindsay out is that it would essentially weaken Jonathan’s battalion as well. The good news for Lindsay is that she’s not the most visible threat, especially next to a Jonathan, so she may be able to skate by on that alone.
8. Hai Giang- Like Lindsay, Hai has the amulet which could make him a target should the other amulet holders want to take each other out. But the good thing with Hai is that he seems solid with Mike and Lydia, and to a lesser extent Chanelle, and has been seen to be pretty convincing when it comes to tribals. In such a chaotic setting, I do see Hai handling the pressure rather well.
7. Lydia Meredith- Lydia and Hai could be targeted because they’re a tight duo, but I do think people will be more inclined to target Hai anyway. Lydia has been playing under the radar enough to where I can’t imagine she’d be at the top of anyone’s list of threats.
6. Omar Zaheer- Omar doesn’t have a vote, but I do think his relationships will help secure him going forward. If people are looking at weakening the orange four, they’re gonna go for Jonathan for his strength or Lindsay for her amulet target. Omar is a threat to nobody right now.
5. Tori Meehan- Okay, so I was totally wrong about Tori finding an idol. Good misdirect, CBS! Either way, I still think Tori is pretty safe. She is seen as someone who may rub people the wrong way, which is why people will be inclined to keep her along (just look at Angelina). Second, she still seems to have a good relationship with Romeo and Drea. Third, she has been seen wanting to flip on her alliance, and honestly, at the merge, that may give her more power if anyone is looking for a swing vote to come join them. Tori may be that valuable wildcard that some other alliances want to use to their advantage.
4. Romeo Escobar- Romeo doesn’t have any actual physical protection, but I do think he’s the safest of everyone who doesn’t. He seems well acquainted and just doesn’t seem to pose any sort of physical threat, which is key at this phase of the game. He and Drea could very well end up being the Ricard/Shan type duo that runs things for a few more votes before being seen as the biggest threats. Which means, for now, they’re safe.
3. Maryanne Oketch- Maryanne went from the most vulnerable on Taku to now being the safest of that foursome strictly because of her idol. Also, who is going to see Maryanne and say “yep, we’ve gotta take this sweet energetic little puppy dog out now”? She’s just not a threat right now.
2. Mike Turner- Mike has an idol, seems solid with Hai and Lydia, and also doesn’t really come across as too big of a strategic or physical threat right now. The good news, as was the same for Xander last season, is that people KNOW he has an idol too, which only makes it easier for him to hide behind because people probably won’t risk throwing votes on him.
1. Drea Wheeler- Drea is collecting advantages like infinity stones. Amulet, check. Extra vote, check. Idol, check. Tight alliance with Romeo and probably Tori, check. She’s safe, and if she goes, she will have had royally misread things.
I’m probably wrong since I really don’t know what’s in store with this “merge.” Who knows! This twist is so unpredictable, for all I know, Jonathan could be the one with the hourglass. Sigh. I hate this twist. Either way, someone’s game is going to be screwed for literally winning a challenge. Sigh.
