American Idol S20 Power Rankings (Top 24, Group 2)

Apr 17, 2022 by PowerRankings101
imageTime for round 2 of these top 24. Unfortunately, Kenedi left the competition (my suspicion is that someone got her a record deal that was too good to refuse. Or at least that’s my hope). So that means my job is a little easier in only having to predict one elimination, though with another fairly promising group of singers, that may be tough regardless. Let’s find out.

12. Cameron Whitcomb- Cameron, where to put him? I know I have him last, but that’s not as much a reflection of Cameron’s memorability as it is the vocal itself. The vocal was a mess. But he is definitely a showman, and honestly, I do think I’d choose to watch him more than some others on the list. That being said, I really don’t know how much longer it will last since it does come across as more and more of a gimmick each week. Only time will tell *does backflip*

11. Noah Thompson- Noah had a bit of a weaker night tonight. I have been a fan of Noah’s, I like how laid back and humble he is. His performances have really elevated beyond just “white guy with guitar,” but this week, I did feel him slipping into generic territory. Nothing bad with that, if that’s where he’s most comfortable. But in this competition, you need to stand out, and Noah was one of the more forgettable singers of the night tonight.

10. Sir Blayke- Sir Blayke did a good job! But going 2nd in the night and not really doing anything remarkable does have me a bit worried for his chances. I just don’t know how memorable this was given the broader scope of all performances tonight. I do like the guy, so it would be nice to see him get another shot, but I worry he may be in danger.

9. Lady K- I’ll just say right now, Lady K from her audition was my personal pick to win. I have loved everything I’ve seen of hers…until now. This was by no means a bad performance, but it is definitely her weakest. There was just something that didn’t click, and I do think she should’ve gone with the Fantasia song as it would’ve really showed off her powerhouse vocals. I think she’ll still be safe for her story and past performances, but if she wants to have a shot at hopefully winning, I’d love to see her go back to what made her so special at the beginning.

8. Cadence Baker- Cadence really kicked off the night on a high note. There were some pitchy moments here and there, but she really delivered some great moments and came alive in her performance. She’s been one of the lower tier contestants, but I do think this may have put her on many people’s radar.

7. Christian Guardino- Christian, like Lady K, has been one of my favorites all season. They’re probably in the top 3 of my personal picks to win (along with Leah, who I’ll mention later). But this was a bit of a step back for Christian as he didn’t execute his riffs quite accurately when it came time for his performance. Christian has such a soulfulness, however, that translates so well to the audience, and I think he’ll get through on his sheer beast-ness alone. I hope he picks songs that really compliment him, but I do like how he’s experimenting with other genres to get a sense of modernity to his artistry. He’s a contender for sure.

6. Katyrah Love- Katyrah was the biggest surprise of the night for me. Was it a great vocal? Not incredibly, no. But she really emerged as an ARTIST tonight, bringing such flavor and style and essence to the stage. She really showed that she can entertain, but with more control than someone like Cameron. Her and Tristen are going to keep giving us a party every week, and I can’t wait.

5. Ava Maybee- I thought Ava had a pretty solid vocal here. It was a hard song, but she sang each note really well. I do think she needs to let loose JUST a bit more, but in terms of sheer strength of vocal, she excelled here. Also love her style.

4. Allegra Miles- Damn, Allegra was awesome this week. She didn’t necessarily blow people away with any powerhouse vocals, but she did knock us out with some sheer style. She is an artist, knows which lane she wants to be in, and absolute excelled, bringing a new fresh take on a very popular song. I don’t know how much longer she’ll be around, but if she can deliver on this level, it may be a while till Ryan is bidding her farewell.

3. Fritz Hager- Fritz is lovely, and I love his voice. This wasn’t even his best performance, but I don’t think it mattered because he just puts his all into every vocal, delivering stunning performance after stunning performance. I do worry that he may need to pick slightly more recognizable songs if he wants to win over America, but given that he sang last, I don’t think there’s a world where America gives up on him so soon. He’s a fan favorite, and I can’t wait to see what we get next from him.

2. Kenedi Anderson- It’s hard to rank Kenedi considering she’s not competing anymore, but c’mon, she did perform so I’m going to fit her into the ranking and honestly…she ranks very high. She killed it. She hadn’t really faltered at all in the competition, and I have a suspicion she could’ve won it. I guess we’ll never know.

1. Leah Marlene- Leah killed it this week, and I think she delivered my favorite performance of the night. She is the most unique artist of the competition, but she actually has some killer vocals to back it up. I really found no faults in her performance this week except I wish she sang even longer because she’s excellent. She’s gonna have such a fun career ahead of her.

Well, there ya go. I do think the first night hit higher highs than this week, but it also provided lower lows. I think, of this entire 24, I would’ve eliminated 3 of the other group and only 1 of this group. I think this group was thoroughly solid. And good news is that with Kenedi’s departure, I only have to predict one eliminatee. I think all the women brought enough to keep them safe. As for the guys, I do think Christian, Fritz, and Noah have done enough to keep them safe throughout their entire journey. As for the last two guys, I think Sir Blayke is definitely at a disadvantage having gone early in the night and not gotten the best edit, whereas Cameron is clearly one of the weaker vocalists and may not be for everyone. I’m gonna go with the safer pick and unfortunately go with Sir Blayke for being the most forgettable of the bunch.

PREDICTIONS:

Withdrew- Kenedi Anderson

Going Home- Sir Blayke

Going Into the Top 20- Leah Marlene, Allegra Miles, Ava Maybee, Katyrah Love, Cadence Baker, Lady K, Fritz Hager, Christian Guardino, Noah Thompson, and Cameron Whitcomb
