The Amazing Race S32 Power Rankings (Pre-Game: Top 11)

Oct 14, 2020 by PowerRankings101
imageA new season of THE AMAZING RACE starts next week, so here is my pre-season assessment of the teams. These are based off of the promo videos that were posted on social media, and how I think the teams will stack up because of that. Chances are, I’ll be way off! Let’s have some fun, shall we?

11. Kaylynn & Haley (Sisters)- Kaylynn and Haley are likable, but I think their main strategy is better catered to something like a Survivor or a Big Brother. They say that they are going to use their charm to distract the guys, but since Amazing Race is such a physical competition, charm doesn’t play TOO big of a factor, unless we’re talking about a potential U-turn. They are going to try to get help from the guys, but a lot of the guys in this season are older or in relationships, which doesn’t give me lots of faith that those plans are going to work. It may get them some help along the way, but I just don’t see them going deep based on the charm strategy alone.

10. Eswar & Aparna (Siblings)- These two siblings are INCREDIBLY smart, but they have said that they bicker a lot, which isn’t helpful. We don’t know how they’ll be physically, but they’ve got the mental stuff down. I hope they can succeed, though I do think they are already coming into this as underdogs next to a lot of these athletes and other teams.

9. Jerry & Frank (Father/Son)- I do like these two a lot, and am rooting for them from a pure likability standpoint. I do think their relationship is going to be a beautiful thing to watch IF we get to see them make it far. Big if. Jerry is older, and I do worry that he may not be able to keep up as well as some of the younger teams, but we have seen teams like Dave & Connor really succeed in the past, which gives me some hope. I can’t rank them too high, however, because it’s a gamble when you have an older cast member.

8. Riley & Maddison (Pro Volleyball Players)- They’re athletes, which helps, but they did say in their video that they are NOT endurance athletes, which is a little worrisome. They are brothers, and mentioned that when they have blow-ups, it is not a pretty sight. I can’t say they hyped themselves up too much, but they may just be humble enough to acknowledge their flaws in the partnership. I don’t have as much confidence for them as I do with some other teams, though their athletic background at least gives me some faith that they’ll surpass a few legs.

7. Nathan & Cody (Best Friends)- These two guys are CLEARLY super outdoorsy, which is going to really help them out in the race. I don’t know how they’ll adapt to the different countries around the world, and I could definitely see them being subject to getting lost or stuck along the way. Phil mentioned that they are fish out of water, which is great tv, but not too promising for the race. They’re older and in shape, which will help, but I just can’t see them winning the whole thing.

6. Will & James (Boyfriends)- I think it’ll be a lot of fun watching Will & James on the Race this season. They’re going to be a charming duo to root for, though we’ll have to see how they stack up physically against the other teams. They don’t seem like the most athletic guys, but they are two of the most driven. Only time will tell, but I’m excited to see how they do.

5. Michelle & Victoria (Sisters)- The Cajun Asian Sisters, as they call themselves, seem to have a really good bond. They have an awesome story, and I think their devotion to family, and not accepting failure, is a good attitude to have for this race. I don’t necessarily see them winning it all, though I do think they’ll surprise a lot of people are go much further than expected.

4. Leo & Alana (Dating)- These two are going to be the MOST fun to watch, but I do think their relationship is freshest of the bunch, which could set them back a tad. I am so impressed, however, in how they were able to make up for their weaknesses and really train their assess off. They are superfans of the Amazing Race, which may come in handy, but the main test is going to be their physical ability. Will they be able to physically stack up against the other contestants? They have done CrossFit and ropes courses, and I appreciate how they’ve put in the effort. Now we’ll have to see if it pays off.

3. DeAngelo & Gary (Former NFL Stars)- Athletes are more than likely always going to make it past the first leg of the race. Their athleticism is evident, and they seem to be incredibly close. While they are also close, they are extremely competitive, which could come back to bite them if they get to a U-turn and end up having to take the burden of doing a part of the leg twice. I also don’t know how sharp their minds are, and in this game, your mental ability has to match up to your physical ability. I do think they’ll still be an incredibly strong team, and have no doubts that they’re a team to watch.

2. Kellie & LaVonne (Former Olympic Hurdlers)- Like I said with DeAngelo & Gary, athletes are bound to do pretty well in the race. The difference is, I think these two are even more focused and mentally strong. They don’t want any BS from any teams, and I see them staying out of any drama. I do think there may be a bit of drama at times between the two of them, but they managed to succeed in the Olympics, so there’s no doubt that they can overcome any argument or fight. They’re proven competitors, and I’d be shocked if they went home early.

1. Hung & Chee (Married Parents)- Their bond seems incredibly strong. They don’t seem to get overwhelmed or flustered by anything, which I think is going to be incredibly helpful in the race. Being level headed is the best thing to be in this race, and I think they’re going to have great chemistry and great balance throughout the season.

It’s really hard to get a true grasp of the season from a simple set of interviews alone. Immediately, the two athlete teams of Kellie & LaVonne and DeAngelo & Gary stand out first, with the other athletic teams of Riley & Madison and Jerry & Frank giving me a tad bit reservation. I do think Hung & Chee were the most impressive to me, showing the least bit of potential for drama, which I think could really carry them through a long way. Drama is always a set back. I do think teams like Will & James and Nathan & Cody also won’t have much drama, though I couldn’t get a great read as to just how well they’ll stack up against the other teams. Leo & Alana are the two I’m most excited to see, as they look like the weakest, but when you have heard just how much they put into their training, I really think they’ll succeed. As for who goes home first, I think we could see Jerry & Frank go if Jerry’s age is a factor…I think we could see Eswar & Aparna go home because they’re not the most athletic….and I could also see Kaylynn & Haley going because they seem to be approaching the game much more strategically than physically. I’m going to go with my gut.

PREDICTIONS:

Going Home- Kaylynn & Haley
