Dancing With The Stars S29 Power Rankings (Round 2)

Sep 23, 2020 by PowerRankings101
imageWell, I was SHOCKED that America didn’t give Carole enough votes. I thought America would really want her to stick around. But then…the judges had the ability to send her home…and didn’t??? Granted, she got higher scores than Charles (and Skai, but we’re not going to talk about that; it makes me sick that Skai scored lower than Carole freaking Baskin). But still, NOW that Carole has landed in the bottom, I worry that America will give her a votes boost. Damn. We had to endure WEEKS of Sean Spicer last season, do we HAVE to endure weeks of Carole? End rant. This week of dancing was for the most part really solid. Only two pairs did worse this week (Skai/Alan and Monica/Val), while the rest of the pairs either improved or stayed the same. It’s going to be incredibly difficult ranking them all, AND I will decide to predict their song for Disney week next week (Carole’s should be no surprise to anyone).

15. Carole Baskin and Pasha Pashkov- This pussycat song was…something. Yes, she improved. She is still the worst dancer left, and I do think her shtick is going to make her outlast some much better competition. It’s weird, but addicting to watch. That’s all I can say.

Disney Night Song Prediction: “Everybody Wants to Be a Cat” from The Aristocats. If not that, something Lion King, but I think they're pushing the cat angle so much at this point

14. Charles Oakley and Emma Slater- Poor Charles had the weakest score of the night, and went home. I feel like Charles really tried hard and made great improvement. Not much else to say, you were a great positive presence Charles. Emma deserves a real great dancer next season.

13. Monica Aldama and Valentin Chmerkovskiy- Monica was in my top half last week, but this week, she took a pretty big step back. The jive isn’t easy, and like I said with Jesse last week, this was just too heavy. It didn’t seem like Monica was as challenged as she should’ve been, and a lot of moves were clunky and not energetic at all. I’m worried she may be in danger if she underperforms like this again.

Disney Night Song Prediction: “Mother Knows Best” from Tangled. Val rocked it with a Disney villain song when he paired with Rumer Willis, I could see him rocking another Disney villain song with Monica too.

12. Chrishell Stause and Gleb Savchenko- Chrishell was weak last week (I thought she’d go home), but definitely improved this week. That being said, the choreography seemed much easier for her. I guess that’s a merit in Gleb’s choreography, as he catered to her needs. That being said, I still think she’s far from the top of the pack. As someone who was hyped up as a pre-season contender, I think she has no shot of winning, but may last a little longer than I initially expected.

Disney Night Song Prediction: “Show Yourself” from Frozen II. She shows houses for a living, and the Frozen sequel is still very popular.

11. Nelly and Danielle Karagach- Nelly’s dance this week was seen as an improvement, but I honestly felt like it was a step back. I didn’t love the dance, partially because I felt it was too planted, and his upper body was doing far more than his feet were. His swagger and musicality is on point, but now he just needs to bring that to his full body. He shows great potential, but I just didn’t enjoy it as much as the judges did.

Disney Night Song Prediction: “Hanukah Matata” from The Lion King. This would be playful and fun, just like Nelly’s personality.

10. Skai Jackson and Alan Bersten- Poor Skai was a frontrunner after last week, but this time, she really took a step back. The lift didn’t work out well (it actually went pretty disastrously). The problem is, after the lift failed, she seemed phased for the rest of the dance. She didn’t have much personality and got stiffer. It really shook her up. I have no doubt that she’ll bounce back and might even get the high score of the night NEXT week. But right now, she’s lower because of a pretty big drop from last week.

Disney Night Song Prediction: “Almost There” from Princess and the Frog. An underrepresented Disney movie, with a really great track to dance to.

9. Vernon Davis and Peta Murgatroyd- Vernon shows some great ability and promise, but I do think this was a bit weaker than a lot of the rest of the competition tonight. He was still stiff, and lacked some technique. It’s a shame, because I think he was much weaker than Jeannie, Anne, and Johnny, all who got the same score as him. He’s an athlete, so he’s bound to improve on his technique. But I am not sure how long he’ll have to make those improvements.

Disney Night Song Prediction: “Go The Distance” from Hercules. He’s an athlete, I could definitely see him slowing things down with this song.

8. Johnny Weir and Britt Stewart- I really liked this routine from Johnny and Britt. There are still inconsistencies, but I do think Britt is catering well to Johnny’s aura and style. This was commanding and fierce, for sure, and I only think Johnny will excel with the coming weeks.

Disney Night Song Prediction: “Cruella de Vil” from 101 Dalmatians. I just think this would be a lot of fun, and allow for some great costumes.

7. Anne Heche and Keo Motsepe- Anne feels like Cinderella, well guess what Anne, you dance like Cinderella too. I thought this was beautiful. I like the difference between the more sassy dance of last week and the more passionate dance this week. She shows great versatility, and while her scores don’t exactly show for it, I love Anne and hope she continues doing well.

Disney Night Song Prediction: “A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes” from Cinderella. She talked about being Cinderella tonight. This is a no brainer.

6. AJ McLean and Cheryl Burke- Backstreet! I love AJ and Cheryl, and think they work really well together. He just brings such a great energy and pizazz to the dance floor, and while there are still some moves to clean up a bit, he is definitely one to watch for the long haul.

Disney Night Song Prediction: “Lost in the Woods” from Frozen II. This song FEELS like it was made by a boy band. This would make complete sense.

5. Jesse Metcalfe and Sharna Burgess- Jesse wins most improved for me this week. I think he really did a great job staying more fluent and light. He still has some problems being too heavy on his feet, but he made so many great improvements. Sharna is here to prove that she can make it far with a REAL competitor, and not just an audience favorite in Bobby Bones. I could see Jesse going real far. He did great.

Disney Night Song Prediction: “Kiss the Girl” from The Little Mermaid. I think Jesse would fit the Prince Eric role nicely, and we could get a return of Sharna’s red hair!

4. Jeannie Mai and Brandon Armstrong- Jeannie is someone who I really think could go deep in this competition, and her scores don’t totally reflect her ability. I think she’s better than three 6s, and brought so much great energy to the dance. She is so much fun to watch, has great chemistry with Brandon, and was one of the strongest of the night in my opinion. Not my personal favorite, but one of the best for sure (and my dad’s pick to win).

Disney Night Song Prediction: “Loyal Brave True” from the 2020 remake of Mulan. It’s new, it’s current, it’s a great song. She could definitely tie it into her relationship with her mother, which we caught a glimpse of tonight.

3. Justina Machado and Sasha Fraber- My favorite of last week was again one of my favorites tonight. It was a spectacular dance. She was graceful, elegant, and incredibly tuned into her partner. I do think there were two dances that were more exciting to me, but Justina is right in it as one of the top contenders this season for sure. Beautiful.

Disney Night Song Prediction: “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocous” from Mary Poppins. Justina has proven to be one of the most versatile of the competition thus far, so this would really be a fun way to bring so many other skills to the table.

2. Kaitlyn Bristowe and Artem Chigvinstev- This was elegant and beautiful. To do it on a hurt ankle, bravo! But seeing how she has had much previous dance experience, I’m not so sure if I’m inclined to root for her. It just seems like an unfair comparison. But then again, Jennifer Grey was in a movie called Dirty Dancing and won the whole thing, Jordan Fisher was a broadway performer and won it all, so I guess a dancer CAN win Dancing with the Stars, LOL.

Disney Night Song Prediction: “When Will My Life Begin” from Tangled. I think we’ll see something a bit more upbeat for Kaitlyn, but nothing EXTREMELY fast because of her ankle. This would be nice.

1. Nev Schulman and Jenna Johnson- Nev came out first of the night and delivered my favorite performance of the night. I was worried Nev wouldn’t be able to translate as well into the more upbeat stuff, but he proved here that he can do anything! He is in perfect dancer shape, and if he wins this whole dang competition, I wouldn’t be surprised. Team Nev!

Disney Night Song Prediction: “One Jump Ahead” from Aladdin. There was a big focus on Nev’s chest hair this week. First prince that comes to mind with his exposed chest is Aladdin.

Hope you enjoy my Disney night song predictions. Knowing my luck, it’ll be 100% something different. As for who lands in the bottom two…seeing how Carole did this week, I think people will vote for her MORE next week. To see that two of the lowest scorers got in the bottom this week, I have faith that maybe we won’t have any huge shockers, and see maybe Chrishell and Nelly in the bottom. I just don’t know how big Nelly’s fanbase is anymore, and having a new pro doesn’t help.

PREDICTIONS:

Going Home- Nelly and Danielle Karagach
