Survivor S40 Power Rankings (Special: Edge of Extinction)

May 13, 2020 by PowerRankings101
imageI was totally right about Jeremy, totally wrong about Nick. Nick sunk his own ship in being too confident when Michele won immunity over Ben, and Denise actually pulled off the “I”m ready to go home” strategy, where she seemed defeated, seeming weaker, thus pushing the rest of the tribe to target somebody more threatening. Some people think she’s a quitter, but it was purely strategy, and I’m a big fan of Denise’s move. Right now, it truly could be anyone’s game, even if the edit suggests that Tony is the man to beat, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out. Like I did with “Edge of Extinction,” I am going to do two SEPARATE rankings. One for the Edge of Extinction returnees, and then I will do one with the final six (Tony, Ben, Sarah, Michele, Denise, and our returnee). Make sure to read both! Here are my extinction rankings:

14. Amber Mariano- This whole extinction island, Amber has been trying her best to ensure that Rob has the most momentum heading into the challenge. She is sacrificing her own game for Rob, which may not be admirable on any other season, but I do think Amber knows he has a better shot than she does at winning this challenge. Amber has been a joy to watch this season. Even if she didn’t PLAY well, she was an amazing narrator at the Edge of Extinction. Having this bottom spot has nothing to do with her as a person. It’s simply because she’s putting all her eggs in Rob’s basket, and that long final confessional of hers seemed to be the cherry topper to her personal journey, as she’ll be off to the jury to vote for the winner.

13. Ethan Zohn- Ethan doesn’t have advantages, and he hasn’t been shown to be the most competitive in the challenges. I love Ethan, but I think he’s just looking forward to enjoying his bed and feast waiting for him at the jury house Ponderosa.

12. Adam Klein- I don’t really think Adam has a shot to get back in here. He had a big edit before he got voted out, but hasn’t really given us any sort of inkling to being too strong in challenges. He doesn’t have an advantage heading into the challenge, and I really think Adam will spend the rest of his time as a juror, voting for one of his own heroes to win the most epic season of Survivor.

11. Nick Wilson- Many people probably think Nick is ready for vengeance and ready to fight his way right back, but Nick has been super inconsistent in challenges. He can do puzzles, but we also saw him as a pretty weak puzzle maker in the pre-merge. And who knows if this challenge is even going to involve puzzles? It probably won’t. I think it ends with the table maze. If Nick was going to be voted out and come RIGHT back in, I doubt we would’ve seen SO much Edge of Extinction content. That’s just my thoughts.

10. Danni Boatwright- Danni has had one of the weirdest edits, and is probably going to be the least remembered contestant from this season. She had a messy game before she was voted out, then went pretty much invisible for a few weeks on Extinction, and has had some glimpses the past few episodes. I just don’t think she’s been a present enough character on this season to indicate coming back into the game.

9. Jeremy Collins- Jeremy has been very vocal that he doesn’t like the edge of extinction. As much as he’s good in challenges, I don’t see him having his full heart in this challenge, and at this point, he’s probably ready to go to eat some food at the jury house. His physical challenge strength is promising alone, but I just don’t see him being the one to do it.

8. Sophie Clarke- Sophie is good in challenges, but there are people with many more advantages than her. She’s been fairly silent since coming to the edge, and I hope we see her play again sometime in the future, because she REALLY proved her worth as a player this season.

7. Kim Spradlin-Wolfe- Similarly to Sophie, she’s good in challenges, I just don’t know how she’ll stack up against all of these people who have advantages. Her edit isn’t the most prominent of the season. The only reason I have Kim above people like Sophie and Jeremy is that she REALLY wanted to get rid of Tony, and if she comes back, it could be a really interesting storyline to see if she gets her revenge.

6. Parvati Shallow- Somehow, I thought Parvati had many more fire tokens than she actually does. I expected her to be a top contender to return, but seeing how she doesn’t have as many advantages as I expected, I just don’t know if Parv can win the challenge against some of the other big dogs who have advantages like Wendell, Tyson, Yul, Rob, and Nat. She could be in contention, but I think she comes short to all of those guys.

5. Wendell Holland- Wendell is really good at challenges, and could very well return. But does his almost villainous edit convince me that Wendell is this heroic edge of extinction survivor? Probably not. He wasn’t portrayed in the best light, and while he’s gotten much more likable now that he’s been on Edge of Extinction, I just can’t see how CBS would edit him so negatively in the pre-merge if he’s our returnee here. Again, he’s a challenge beast and could VERY well do it, but we’ve also seen Wendell choke when he gets a bit cocky.

4. Yul Kwon- Yul ALMOST won the last extinction challenge with no advantages. Now he’s going into the challenge with an advantage, so he should be in serious contention to come back. The only thing going against Yul is his edit, and how he’s been pretty quiet since we saw him get voted out. But Yul almost won it the first time, so I don’t count out his chances.

3. Rob Mariano- Rob is Rob, he’s always going to be a threat to win. He has an idol if he returns, because he stacked up his tokens, which makes me feel like he has a really good shot. The only thing holding him back is that he hurt his arm a few episodes back. If that arm injury really comes into play, he could lose in the end, but I don’t see it being too much of a problem for Rob.

2. Tyson Apostol- Tyson won the first challenge, so obviously he’s got an amazing shot this time too. He has an idol from Natalie if he makes it back, and if he doesn’t, he may be a guaranteed jury vote for Natalie. He seems to be the other big contender to get back in, and had he had as many advantages as Natalie, he’d be my number one.

1. Natalie Anderson- Natalie is the most likely returnee. They made it a point to show us just how many fire tokens, advantages, and jars of peanut butter she ate. She may be unstoppable, honestly. She has three advantages to other people’s ONE advantage, she has a belly full of protein, and she has the momentum of staying on the island all season and having something to prove. As much as I’ve considered Tyson, Rob, Yul, Wendell, Parv, Kim, Sophie, and even Jeremy, I just can’t imagine how ANY of them catch Natalie on editing OR physical terms. She has so many advantages, it would be an amazing story, and I think we’re going to see Natalie Anderson go from zero to hero and make a case for the million. Let’s see.

PREDICTIONS:

Returning to the Game- Natalie Anderson

Going to the Jury- Amber, Danni, Ethan, Rob, Parvati, Yul, Wendell, Adam, Tyson, Sophie, Kim, Jeremy, and Nick
