MasterChef S10 Power Rankings (Finals)

I’ll start by saying, this is the most talented final three of all time. You have Nick, the kid who has been going big and bold the whole time, sometimes missing the mark, but always putting innovation first. Dorian, who has been consistent in her Southern roots, being able to try new things and push herself outside her comfort zone. And then you have Sarah, my pre-season winner pick, who proved that it’s never too late to follow a dream, and who has grown as a plater, as well as a chef. It’s going to be incredibly hard to pick between these three, but I have some thoughts and here are my final rankings.

3. Sarah Faherty- Sarah, as I said before, was my pre-season winner pick, but here, I think she comes up short of the prize and third place. She has been so consistent, and has probably been one of the best leaders in the kitchen, as well as one of the best meat cookers. But the one word I think of sometimes as her negative is “boring.” Her food is sometimes boring, whether it be her side dishes, or her plating. She has definitely found her groove recently, but I still think her dishes, while cooked excellently, may not stand out visually or be as complex as something Nick or Dorian will do. I think Sarah is a fighter, and I would definitely not be surprised if she won, but right now, in terms of an edit standpoint and food standpoint, I think she is probably the least likely of this amazing final three to win.

2. Nick DiGiovanni- I never imagined Nick to blossom this much, but Nick has proved time and time again that he is a risk taker and a hell of a good cook. The only issue with Nick is that he sometimes finds himself being almost too ballsy, to the point where little mistakes come back to bite him. If creativity and plating is the name of the game, Nick wins 9 times out of 10. But cooking is the main thing here, and Nick, while a great chef, has sometimes fallen short in flavor, or put elements on the plate that just shouldn’t have been there. He almost got sent home this past episode because of a string he had in his dish, and if he makes a silly mistake like that, it could cost him the prize. He’s still great, and I think he stands a good chance.

1. Dorian Hunter- Dorian has been my favorite since the beginning. I think Dorian has been the most consistent of recent, and while she definitely had her fair share of team losses in the beginning, she was easily the strongest one on most of those teams and always impressed the judges in pressure tests. The reason I want Dorian to win, and think Dorian will win, is because she has stepped outside her comfort zone. I think Sarah and Nick play to their strengths, while Dorian takes whatever task is given to her and tries to learn something new and enjoy doing it. She was definitely the underdog of the season, but has since become a true threat to beat, and even when her food is underwhelming, it’s still someone else’s best. I love her and hope she has the power and tenacity to deliver in the finale. I’m rooting for her.

What an amazing final three. I’ll be happy if any of them win, but think it’ll come down to flavor—point blank. Nick will get points for creativity, Sarah for her proteins, but Dorian will have the whole package.
