Bri finally went home, and Subha finally won a challenge. So now, who is in front and who is behind? It’s a little fuzzier and not as clear this week, for the first time in a while. Here goes.
7. Micah Yaroch- Subha winning definitely puts a lot of other people in danger, because there are so little chefs left and Subha is on a high. Micah seems like the person who lands in the bottom spot, just because of his recent mishap, and because he is the youngest one left with the worst track record. Between him and Nick, the two youngest, he’s definitely had lower moments, and in the grand scheme of things, I just don’t think his edit translates to a winner here. I could be wrong, but right now, I have to put Micah here in the bottom spot.
6. Noah Sims- I think Noah is hyped up by the other contestants than the edit, because I really don’t consider him one of the top chefs left. I just can’t seem to get on board, and think that, with the numbers dwindling, one more bad dish from Noah will send him home. It happened to Fred and Jamie, and they barely cooked bad food. Noah has cooked bad food several times.
5. Subha Ramiah- Subha won a challenge, which bumps him up to FIFTH spot here. FIFTH. That’s huge for Subha, who I still consider to be pretty vulnerable each week. I think Subha may actually have a shot after this week, and I can’t believe I’m saying it, but he isn’t in the bottom for me as he has been the past (or all?) weeks.
4. Shari Mukherjee- Shari announcing that she was cooking Indian food gave me pause… but she actually nailed it. I think Shari is confident, but doesn’t show it as much as she should. I think I’m finally on board with Shari possibly making the finals, and if it weren’t for the three people ahead of her, I’d say she’d be THE front runner.
3. Dorian Hunter- Dorian has been a front runner time and time again. She had a bad week, but even her worst was better than anything Bri, Micah, or Noah could’ve done. I have to say, if THIS didn’t send her home, I don’t know what will, because I don’t see her doing worse than this. Still my front runner, even if she only gets the three spot here.
2. Sarah Faherty- Joe needs to knock it off with “meat and potatoes” “meat and potatoes.” Sarah made meat and potatoes and absolutely NAILED it. I think the protein seems to be the thing that sends people home. It sent Bri home. It sent Fred home. I think Sarah, as long as she is cooking proteins this well, and not baking, is safe no matter what.
1. Nick DiGiovanni- I’m all for Subha winning a challenge, but Nick made a New England Clam Chowder look like a 5-star dish. I was absolutely awe-struck and think Nick has finally hit his stride. Reinventing food, reimagining food, but still keeping the integrity of the flavors, and not overachieving with pointless elements as he was a few weeks ago. Nick is the frontrunner and only himself (or Dorian maybe) will be able to take him down.
Nick is the front runner, and I think Dorian is right behind, with Sarah also a huge contender. As for the rest, I think Shari, Subha, Micah, and Noah have all had ups and downs. Shari and Subha have been doing much better in recent memory than Noah or Micah. I just think Micah’s time is dwindling, and he’s grown, but not to the extent of someone like Subha or Shari, or even Dorian.
