The Final Table S1 Power Rankings (Top 11)

With round one, MEXICO, over, I will admit that I was wrong on lots of things. I had Graham & Aaron as well as James & Angel in the 2nd and 3rd positions on the rankings and was extremely wrong when they were in the bottom 3 (with James & Angel getting the boot). I’ll admit, I was also wrong on Charles & Rodrigo, who not only proved me wrong (I had them last in the rankings), but emerged as front-runners for their incredible taco dish. Other surprises were the Taco Kings, Esdras & Rafael (though maybe this was just their comfort zone) and Shane & Mark, who I thought may struggle. Let’s rank going into this SPANISH challenge.

11. Graham Campbell and Aaron Bludorn- “Never eaten a taco” was a sentence I never imagined a human being to say, but that wasn’t the biggest surprise of the night. The biggest surprise was them getting their pork cooked in time for the judging, and nailing it. It seemed like they were doomed from the start, but they bounced back. But with Spanish cuisine, I’m worried they’ll be on the bottom again.

10. Ash Heeger and Alex Haupt- They bit off more than they could chew in the first challenge. I think it was a speed bump that sets them back a bit, but I could see them coming back from this. After all, they did have an impressive showing in the elimination round. A solid week will put them back in the running, but for now…this is where they’ll be.

9. Johnny Spero and Jessica Lorigo- We didn’t see much from them, which leaves them right here toward the middle to bottom range.

8. Benjamin Bensoussan and Manuel Berganza- Again, lots of teams weren’t shown to have heavy edits in this first round, so the teams that got less visibility will have to hold off on a true placement (other than the bottom-middle range) for now.

7. Colibri Jimenez and Collin Brown- My pre-season pick to win had some little visibility in the episode, but I think they still have a shot from their impressive credentials. Right now, it’s middle of the road till their edit picks up.

6. Timothy Hollingsworth and Darren MacLean- While they weren’t necessarily top or bottom, they definitely got some decent screen time, so they may be around for some time.

5. Rafael Gil and Esdras Ochoa- The taco guys killed it in the challenge. While I did expect them to struggle a bit after their comfort challenge, I still think Spanish food is in their wheelhouse and they should be safe again.

4. Shane Osborn and Mark Best- I was right…these two are cocky. But they also acknowledge where they need more room to grow and what they need to change, so I think we’ll see them around a little while longer.

3. Monique Fiso and Amninder Sandhu- As the only all female team, I am rooting for them to go pretty far. I think they will continue to show impressive food throughout, and while their edit hasn’t really picked up, I could see them emerge as front-runners very soon.

2. Ronald Hsu and Shin Takagi- I wasn’t surprised to see these two be so successful. One is a seasoned vet, one a fresh face in the culinary world. Both pair extremely well and produce some solid food. I like them.

1. Charles Michel and Rodrigo Pacheco- These two amazed me. I had no idea their food would turn out as good as it did. I knocked Charles for being more of a food business guy than a cooking guy, but he only used that to his advantage to create a beautiful plate. His artistic vision paired with Rodrigo’s culinary skills may be the true match made in heaven (something I claimed James & Angel to be before their elimination).

I stand corrected. Charles & Rodrigo are the real deal. As for who goes home, it’s only logical to expect the same teams to perform poorly again (which probably won’t happen, but for odds and rankings, hey why not), so I am predicting Graham & Aaron to take the sad walk of shame home.
