Top 10 Tuesdays: Top 10 Films to Watch on 4th of July

Jul 4, 2018 by PowerRankings101
imageFor the top 10 this week, here’s your top 10 Murica films, in honor of the 4th of July week here!

10. Captain America: The Winter Soldier- Not as patriotic as the original (see the top of the list), but it counts. It’s still a Cap film.

9. Captain America: Civil War- See above.

8. American Sniper- Bradley Cooper gives one hell of a performance as a soldier struggling with PTSD. A layered, nuanced performance in a film I wish I enjoyed more. But for the sake of Patriotic films, this is one hell of an ode to America.

7. Saving Private Ryan- Another war film but (SHHH) I haven’t seen it. Shocker right? But I’ve seen enough iconic scenes and can appreciate it enough to include it on this list.

6. Independence Day- The name…says it all?

5. Wonder Woman- The Cap of the DCU. Not as good a movie, but still a pretty amazing film that showcased not just the best female hero of all time, but one of the greatest superheroes period. Booming with pride and spirit, this is surely one to include on a list about love for the country we live in.

4. Jaws- If I’m gonna watch any film on 4th of July, it’s this. An amazing horror film, but perfect for the summer season. Most of you probably won’t read this because you’re at the beach, but don’t say I didn’t warn ya.

3. Forrest Gump- This film is as American as it gets. Forrest goes to Alabama, fights in Vietnam, buys a shrimping boat, runs across the country. So American, so much greatness.

2. Lincoln- Still Daniel Day-Lewis’ greatest performance of all time, and perhaps the best acting performance…ever? Lincoln is a staple of our culture and our history, and this film is a beautiful telling of his life. Not the best film of Spielberg’s or biopics in general, but an incredibly important film to watch on 4th of July.

1. Captain America: The First Avenger- I mean. No doubt the most thrilling, entertaining dose of patriotism there can be. Cap is one amazing hero, and I didn’t really appreciate this as much the first time. But rewatching it months ago, I can say I’m a huge fan of this film. His relationship with Agent Carter is so dynamic and layered, but his relationship with doing the right thing, saving others, and looking out for his friends is what makes this character so admirable. The best of the first phase of the MCU, and the perfect film to watch on the 4th of July!
